You can see that the the scar for the mole removed on my chin was flawless and you can not tell that there was something removed there.

Facial Mole Removal That I Waited for Years For....Slight Buyers Remorse

For as long as I can remember I have had 4 moles on my face around my mouth. As I aged 3 of these moles became raised and would grow a "granny hair." I would find myself constantly touching these moles so I decided they needed to go.

I booked a consultation for $250 to see Dr. Spiegel. While my primary motivation for the consultation was for mole removal I decided to also ask about a rhinoplasty as I had a botched septorhinoplasty about 20 years earlier (this was confirmed by Dr. Spiegel as he showed me how I had nasal valve collapse on one side).

Dr. Spiegel talked about how the mole removal would be done and showed me a mark on the white wall in his office. His explanation was now that he had pointed out that mark I would always see it but if he hadn't pointed it out I might not notice it. His point was that my scars would likely be the same. It would be something I would notice but that others might not unless it was pointed out to them.

I showed him around 9 or so moles all on my face and neck - again, figuring since I was there I might just have them all removed. I have a sensory issue so anything raised on my skin causes me distress as I am constantly touching it. I have probably had 20 moles removed over the years at my dermatologist but they would not do any on my face. We also discussed the rhinoplasty and what that would be like. He then left the room and one of the assistants, Dafina, returned with a quote. She presented me with a quote for over $10,000 for the mole removal. Needless to say I was a bit shocked so I changed my tune and asked her for just a price for the 3 moles that were really bothering me. She said she had to find out what size those moles were considered because the pricing depends on whether they were small, medium or large. She returned (without a printed quote) and told me they were all medium so the cost would be $2687 (plus the $250 I already paid). She had her credit card machine in hand and it felt slightly uncomfortable. I did have a family member with me who I kinda wanted to discuss it with because it was a big ticket but I guess to Dafina this didn't seem like a big deal. I gave her my card and decided to move forward.

Within a few minutes Dr. Spiegel and an assistant returned to begin the process. I was given two shots (one in the chin and one in the cheek). The shot in the chin was incredibly painful since there is less fat there. Once it was numb they proceeded to remove the 3 moles and apply 3 steri-strips. The entire procedure lasted no more than 20 minutes.

I left with care instructions and some antibiotic ointment. The steri-strips fell off within a few days and then I just kept applying ointment. After 8 days the stitches had not dissolved and the 2 moles on my cheek looked inflamed. I sent an email to Dr. Spiegel who responded promptly to come in the next morning to remove the stitches.

The next morning his assistant removed the stitches which was surprisingly painless and she told me to apply scar sheets to the spots. I applied the scar sheets to the moles for about 2 weeks and since have just used Mederma Scar gel at night and SPF during the day. I did have additional stitches pop out over the following few weeks.

I am very pleased with the way the mole on my chin looks. You can barely see a scar unless i point it out. The two moles on my cheek I am less pleased with. I know that I am hyperfocused on how they look and I see a little bunching at the ends that I hope will continue to subside over time. I think the reason for my "buyers remorse" on the two cheek moles was the amount of money I spent for a result that I am not "wowed" by.

I would definitely have removed the one on my chin again for the $979 but I don't know that I would have spent that money on my cheek moles.
