I saw Dr. Torres for facial feminization last year and had an awful experience. I don’t even know where to begin with what went wrong. The worst part, however, was having my consent violated in regards to my rhinoplasty. We had agreed before that my nose was quite nice and didn’t need much. However, once I got there, he was really pushing more extreme results that I said very firmly and repeatedly that I didn’t want. I thought I had clearly advocated for myself and made sure that he had heard me. It didn’t matter- he did what he wanted anyways. He gaslighted me over what had happened for a month telling me to just wait and I’ll see that he had listened to my desires. Later he told me that what I wanted was too masculine and he gave me something that was more feminine even if it wasn’t what I had wanted.

Besides that, the rest of my FFS results were subpar and will eventually require revision. In some cases, like my hair transplants, the results were even more masculinizing.

Communication with him and his team was chaotic and stressful to say the least. The most glaring example of this was him having me meet him for a post-op meeting at midnight because he was too busy racing that day. Another bright example includes him failing to collect payment before my surgery and then having his assistant harass me and bang on my door demanding payment after the surgery.

I could go on much farther about this awful experience, but ultimately the consent violation around my nose has been by far the worst experience if my life and needs to be shared.

As providers of aesthetic surgery services, we celebrate a space where our patients can openly express their experience with us. In that sense, we respect this patient’s candid opinion, although it is also our duty to fully share our side of the story so that unbiased members of this community can draw their own conclusions.

Dr. Torres has and will always respect the patient’s desires to proceed or not to proceed with a specific procedure, above all advocating for surgeries that will only result in great outcomes. He will never, by no means, overrule a decision made by the patient, since ethics for us always comes first. We were always receptive and responsive to her requests at all times, and should she need it, as we would do with any patient of ours who is dissatisfied with a result, we are more than available to offer her a revision with us at no cost.

Regarding communication, both Dr. Torres and his staff have always been available to this patient, regardless of the day (weekday or weekend) or the time (daytime, or nighttime). On the occasion mentioned by the patient, it should be understood that the doctor, in addition to being a surgeon, has a personal, family and private life, but despite this, he is always available to his patients. In this case, it was a weekend where the doctor was practicing a recreational sport for him, and where he had to suspend all activity to fulfill his professional role of caring for his patient, which he did in a professional manner.

Regarding the payment problem mentioned by the patient, it should be noted that the payment was not made BEFORE the surgery as it should have been, since the patient's bank withheld the funds (problem unknown to us). Despite this, the doctor decided to proceed with the surgery without having collected 90% of the amount owed, and incurring expenses that he had to cover out of pocket. Almost 2 weeks after the surgery, and in order not to disturb the patient during the first post-op days, our team again asked the patient to make the payment, which finally happened a few days before her return to her country.
