Facial feminization - The surgery went well, no complications
ORIGINAL POST
FFS with Dr. Spiegel
WORTH IT$50,000
I had FFS with Dr. Spiegel. This review and 5-star rating is for those procedures only, and about 9 months after the surgery.
I had forehead and eyebrow shaping, nose job, trachea shave, and upper lip augmentation.
The surgery went well, no complications, and I returned home the same day all bandaged up.
The swelling was intense over the next few days and the nausea, especially on the first day was awful, but apparently that happens with nose jobs a lot, according to my friend at least. The first week took a lot of ice and laying around, but by the second week I started being able to walk around the neighborhood and be upright more often. By the end of the 2 weeks, most of the swelling had gone down, but the bruising around the eyes took another few weeks to go away. i could go out in public, albeit with makeup.
The results:
Forehead/brow shaping: the slight brow ridges I had were taken down so that from the front you can't see the telltale ridges. It didn't change the shape of my eyebrows. The scalp was advanced a little bit, which helped with the appearance of the hair line. There was still a sizeable forehead leftover, so I also decided to get an FUE hair transplant a few months later, but I think the scalp advancement did more honestly (read below for details).
Nose job: I had a wide bridge and a noticeable bump. The nose was slimmed and sloped and pointed upward a little. All in all, this may have been the most noticeable and gender affirming single surgery. There's a slight divot where he had to do some pretty major work on the bump, and I have a little bit of trouble with breathing through the left nostril. But all in all very worth it.
Lip augmentation: I had to pay this one out of pocket, but he tossed some tissue up there. it looked great when it was all swollen. At this point it is only a slight improvement, but it is better than it was. May get fillers.
Trachea shave: It went fine. it was brought down to a tiny bump. I'm fairly skinny, so the bump is still noticeable but the overall size was brought down.
FUE (hair transplant): This was the most disappointing procedure I had done at the center. I went in to fill in the sides of the hairline and bring it forward. However, I wasn't aware that they outsourced it and brought in outside techs. They only brought the hairline forward about a 1/4 inch. I asked them to bring it down further, and they said they wouldn't do it as it would be too close to the muscle and would move too much. Then 2 techs filled in the sides. One tech was better than the other, and my left side looks very thin compared to the right side. Will probably have to have this filled in/redone by someone, and I will be looking elsewhere. That being said, it did help with the overall look, even if I may appear very thin on the left side.
Electrolysis (with anesthesia): I'm sensitive so I come here for some electrolysis for the face/neck. Expensive. Depending on who injects, I usually have to ask for more anesthesia before they start. The person doing the electrolysis is kind. I did about 16 hours here, and maybe 14 outside, and the only place it's really thinned out is on my upper chin and lip. These areas were so, so swollen. The rest of the areas, neck, cheeks, etc. I still have a tremendous amount of work needed. I will probably be back for more, when I can save up enough $$.
