Facial Feminization Surgery with Dr. Van De Ven at 2pass Clinic
I had my surgery in September 2019, the procedures done were Type I brow bone reduction, hairline lowering, jaw reduction, chin surgery and adams apple reduction.
The surgery was done by Dr. Bart van de Ven at 2Pass Clinic in Belgium.
I'm pretty satisfied with the result, even if it's been only 5 months since the surgery.
There is still a little bit of swelling around my jaw, but I'm passing consistently as a woman.
My first contact with the clinic was early May in 2018. My wife and I visited Berlin for a consultation date.
We talked about the procedures I wanted to have done and Dr. van den Ven suggested some additional procedures, but did not insist on them when I declined them.
He also gave his opinion on the surgeries I wanted to have and recommended not doing some of them, which I'm happy about, because they really weren't necessary.
This and the whole appointment (questions were answered satisfyingly, pricing was explained upfront etc.) really helped me to decide on 2Pass as the clinic I wanted to have my surgery in.
In summer 2019 we were able to pay the surgery fee (at the cost stated in the cost calculation) and after some mails and some documentation (blood test, x ray) we needed to provide, the surgery date could be scheduled around 2-3 months later.
When we went to the clinic end of September 2019, we paid the rest of the room fee (we upgraded the room from single to two beds, because me wife accompanied me) and met with Dr. van de Ven for the pre-operation consultation.
There we asked some last questions and took some pre-op photos.
After that we went to the upper floor to unpack our things in the room we stayed in.
There we met the patient manager Elli, who showed us the facility and introduced us to Petra, the clinic's permanent resident.
Petra helped a lot during my stay and not only cooked food for the patients, but also provided helpful advice regarding recovery.
I don't remember much from the day of the surgery, but I remember being taked care of professionally since waking up.
Especially at night, when I had to throw up the blood I swallowed during surgery, the night nurse took care of me splendidly, cleaning me and providing fresh bed sheets etc.
The following days went by real fast.
At first I couldn't eat really well, due to the swelling and sutures, but this got easier everyday, especially after day 3, after which the swelling went down consistently.
During those days I tried to move around and get fresh air (as recommended by Petra) and followed the post-op instructions as good as possibly.
This really helped and the whole recovery, including pain and swelling, was not as bad as I anticipated.
I can't really stress enough how much help Petra's words of advise were. She answered every question as good as possible and recommended helpful things to make recovery as smooth as possible. It really showed her experience with all the patients at the clinic over all the years she's the permanent resident there.
After the week I had to stay at the clinic I had the post-op appointment with Dr. van de Ven, where I could again ask questions and where we made the post-op photos.
Dr. van de Ven also recommended a lawyer for dealing with the insurance company, so I could try and get the insurance pay for the surgery, which was really helpful.
After the appointment I went back to Germany by train, which as a bit scary. But I was mostly pain free and only looked swollen and bruised, so except some strange looks it wasn't so bad.
The following days the swelling gradually went down and I could see the surgery results, which made me really happy.
I started going outside more frequently after around 2-3 weeks after surgery and noticed, that people recognized me more and more as a woman, which made me really happy.
End of January 2020 I had another post-op appointment in Berlin, for a last checkup and some questions.
We also recorded a testimonial interview, which will go up at the 2pass site soon (I think).
Dr. van de Ven affirmed that the surgery went well and addressed any concern I had.
As of now, as mentioned above, I still have a bit of swelling left.
Scars are still there, but they already faded a bit and since they are hidden by hair, they are not really noticable, unless I show them to people.
The feeling has mostly returned, too. I still have some numbness on my scalp and below the chin, but this also recedes consistently.
All in all, I'm pretty happy about the whole process and the results.
During the whole time I felt being taken care of and not let alone, so I don't regret doing this surgery with this surgeon at all.
