Do Not Do FaceTite if You Are Thin

Do Not Do FaceTite if You Are Thin

I'm very thin and for some reason, after my 2nd kid, my face just started to melt- super saggy neck, crazy loose jowly hollowness, significant crows feet- all of it. I did some botox starting at 28, then my first filler around 35, some micro needling etc but nothing was giving me dramatic results and the cost was really starting to add up.

I saw a plastic surgeon finally who recommended FaceTite as a last resort before surgery. Since I have two young kids and can't handle the downtime, I decided to give it a try. It was billed as minimally invasive, "some people go to work the next day" but I found it to be very uncomfortable and invasive with at least 4 days of intense swelling (I had to avoid my children and neighbors for that time), a numb asymmetrical mouth for 1 day, a hard lump that formed under my chin and lasted for more than a month (surgeon wasn't able to explain it- blamed it on my scarring/ healing response but I've read in a clinical trial doc it may be due to too much heat too superficial under the skin), and finally a pretty large hole scar under my chin.

Worst of all after a few months of residual swelling and thinking the treatment had worked, my skin is as lax and jowly and sad as ever. I went back to Keller and he was generous with his time and confirmed I did not have a good result and said the only remedy was a face/neck/cheek lift. The office said they would give me a small discount and prepare a quote but they never did, even after I looped back several times over phone and email. Some days I think there was no change, and some I think it's much worse than before. I'm only 37 and my skin looks 50 at least.

Pre-procedure, I asked many times if I should be worried about potential fat loss and was told no, that it does melt a little fat but the tightening compensates. In my case, and in the case of any other person who is underweight or doesn't have enough facial fat and that is causing their laxity, I would never ever recommend this treatment. And I know that is sad and disappointing. I know there are not great alternatives. I too read the negative reviews (and the positive) and wanted to believe it would work for me.

I try not to be heartbroken about the money I spent. I try not to think about my sagging face and neck and profile all the time, but it's very distracting. If any providers know of any solutions, please reach out. I'm interested in Renuva since I can't do surgical downtime at this point and the cost of conventional fillers in the lower face isn't sustainable (and Sculptra and Bellafill terrify me).

Writing this review to spare others the same pain- do ask to see before and afters from your specific provider- if they don't/can't show them, walk away. Ask how many times the procedure has been done. Ask what happens if it doesn't work? I trusted my provider as he was a highly regarded plastic surgeon but I truly don't know if he has much experience with the procedure, given my experience. And DO NOT do it if you cannot afford to lose fat. I can't find any clinical trials cited for this being an effective treatment- hopefully everyone knows at this point the BS associated with 'FDA cleared' devices, the bar is very, very low. Good luck <3

I'm so sorry this happened to you, facetite does melt and shouldn't be done for anything other than a little volume reduction and some tightening but not like u have had, God bless you.

You just needed a facelift before and one now, be careful
Of fat please! See my horror story. Fat for the body is NOT for the face. Specially with the laxity u have now.

I'll check out your story- thanks for the heads up. Yes, fat transfer has been recommended for my jowling and face laxity- with the hope that it would bring some of my neck laxity up, but I probably don't have enough body fat and I've seen terrible recovers with very little retention in the end. Thank you again for taking the time.

I’ve mentioned Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (especially the cutaneous form) as a possible explanation for unusually lax skin. There is another condition that has been discussed here at real self, in regard to a young woman who wanted to know if a facelift was possible for her problem with cutis laxa: https://www.realself.com/question/edmonton-ab-surgeons-specialize-facelifts-cutis-laxa

Sorry for your results, how long did this take to show?

It seemed like I had decent results the first 8 weeks or so but by 3 months out there was no noticeable change, and by 6 months out I see hollowness that wasn't there before in my lower face (from the fat melting).

One of my friends developed skin laxity quite a bit like what you describe. She has a collagen disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. There are several different types of this disorder, with some people being hyper flexible, and some having skin that becomes loose-fitting, so to speak. You might want to google this.

Hi, so sorry to see your results. Please don't get fat transfer, you then run the risk of looking augmented and puffy. IMO, women don't need lower face fat, just skin tightness, which can be achieved with a mini lift. I, too, am disapointed with Facetite and I'm now considering a lower face lift. I suggest you get a lower SMS lift with someone conservative with the knife. I've searched and I like Dr Harley's work in Asheville. After I recover from the trauma of Facetite I plan to contact him.

I’m so sorry it happened to you. The MD should have suggested a different procedure such as Ultherapy or Morpheus8 for lifting concerns.
I think the FaceTite address facial fat and lifting. The best would probably have neck and face lift... so sad what happened to you and do hope that you find a solution and help gain back your face.

Worst angle, but still pretty upsetting

This is the view that is most upsetting. My neck/chin never looked like this before. It's going to be a really long and expensive process to fix it. At this point I'm looking at possible surgery and fat transfer. Dr. Keller's office has been completely unresponsive.

I feel so sad for you, and bravo to you for warning others. As for your doctor, maybe it's just as well if you don't use him to fix this. How can you trust him after this? I was recommended Facetite by someone, he said he had gotten great results on one woman, I said I'd have to check it out. Well, he didn't have any before and after pictures on his web site. Then I checked another popular surgeon in town. He represents himself as an expert, and has loads of pictures - but the vast majority were from a guy in Italy who pioneered the procedure! The only pictures I saw from the local surgeon were not at all impressive. Looking around on Realself, I got the impression that this is a very new procedure and not all doctors are good at performing it. I do not want to be the guinea pig of some surgeon who is new to the procedure and eager to pay off the equipment. So I decided to wait. That's what I would recommend to anyone, echoing your comments, unless your surgeon's name happens to be paolo ravatti. He's amazing. But he lives in Italy. And if your doctor does post some before and after pictures that are good, you might want to cross-check them against Dr Rovatti's. If your doctor is representing Dr Rovatti's work as his own, run.

The Italian is someone who trains others, he's not a pioneer. My doctor (Guillermo Blugerman) also train others and I asked him about this cases and he said people with such loose skin should have facelift not facetite.

Thank you! It is a big strange how many doctors I've seen representing others' work on their sites. Deep regrets, yes, biding time until I can do the downtime for a surgical procedure (I have young kiddos that need constant care), but I should have never gone down any of these paths.

Hi try Forma skin tightening --like 4 -6 sessions you will see immediate improvements. Then when you save up or get a payment plan , a possible necklift --hopefully radiofrequency can fix it so you won't have to!

Honestly I think you’re doing the right thing looking for a surgeon to do a lift with fat transfer. I don’t think for the level of laxity your last photos show that you should waste any more time or money with RF or ultrasound devices since non-invasive “tightening” devices are not going to give you the necklift results you need. You’re going to be doing so many rounds before you maybe even notice a small difference and at that point money and down time-wise you may as well have had a necklift. Also so many of those devices still burn fat (which I agree with you is terrible for a thin person and you don’t want to lose more around the jawline). Things work differently for different people, this is true, but for me (with a little less laxity than your photos), I have wasted thousands of dollars and days of cumulative swelling and have not seen any noticeable improvement with any of these devices. At the end of it all, I’m out money and my jawline and neck skin are still lax. I am now focusing on finding a really good facelift/necklift surgeon - please be very careful with that too. Good luck to you!! Thank you for sharing your story!!

I agree- going with a platysma in the beginning would have been a fraction of what I've spent now, and would certainly have given great results. I agree too about the days of swelling and bruising from all these 'non-invasive' treatments. Good luck to you- thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I agree.. I think it would have been better for a full face and neck lift.

Curious, how much did he charge?

If a professional and artistic doctor, he should refuse to perform liposuction on you
