The light of that very long tunnel is getting brighter

Dr. Charles Thorne - THE BEST SURGEON

Gia C.
WORTH IT
After four years of living through absolute hell, I was blessed to find Dr. Charles Thorne. He was the fifteenth doctor I consulted. He is a gentleman, kind, experienced, knowledgeable, and most of all, he listened AND heard me. He was on time for every appointment. His staff is professional yet warm and friendly. Unlike the other doctors I had spoken to, he did not have an agenda. My concerns became his concerns. A New York City plastic surgeon with a Park Avenue address with fair fees. One in a million. He performed surgery on me on July 20th. As I thought, he found a massive amount of scar tissue in my face and sutures that never dissolved (foreign matter). He removed that entire mess and carefully redraped my skin.
As I write this, I am recovering nicely with minimal discomfort. This is the first time in a very long time the light of that very long tunnel is getting brighter and brighter. My advice to anyone who is struggling with facelift complications would be to make an appointment with Dr. Thorne. I can assure you that he will hear you, and if he can help you, he will. All I wanted was to feel better, which I do. Bonus - I'm also looking better! Score all the way around.

Thank God there's angel surgeons out there. Good to hear and thank you for sharing and giving so many hope. Your desire to help others paid off. Karma does exist. And I hope the ones who harm get their dues in time. Maybe not now or immediately future but over time they will.

I know they all protect themselves. It's been really hard. My kids have been looking for surgeons all over and a lot of them don't even want to take on my case

How is the "choking" feeling? Is it gone? What did this new doctor say was the reason you felt like you had a shoelace around your neck?
October 4, 2022
I never had a choking feeling. However, three years after my initial facelift and platysmaplasty, I felt my face/neck was hanging from picture wire. My new doctor wasn't sure why I felt that shoelace sensation. During my consultation with him, I was the one who told him the palpable scar tissue corresponded with my discomfort. I'm assuming my body rejected the non-dissolvable sutures as though they were foreign matter. I also told him that when the skin of my face was held tauter, it relieved my discomfort. The inside of my face was too tight. The skin on my face was too loose. He listened. He heard me, unlike the thirteen other plastic surgeons I consulted. They had different plans for me. They all wanted to do another deep plane facelift, another platysmaplasty, etc. One even told me that he could only help my situation by including an endoscopic browlift and a lateral temporal lift. You must be your own advocate. I had done my homework for more than three years. I wouldn't allow anyone to railroad me into anything that I knew instinctively would not better my situation.

Dear Gia, I read all your posts - they were "the light in MY dark tunnel".
I am going through the exact same thing you went for 4 years and NOBODY has an idea what has been wrong. I am going though that hell you described: extreme discomfort and pain every single day. I can't imagine how you lived like that for 4 years, but assume because it is extremely difficult to find a doctor who is capable to help. To listen and "hear' you, like you put it. I saw about 8 doctors and you are right - they all have their own agenda and it is NOT to help you. I was offered total redo by one and steroid injection by another, but nobody could actually explain what is wrong.
Another thing - they can not "see" how tight and uncomfortable I am within my face and think I am complaining about extra loose skin, hanging over that "picture wire" like you put it. That's true - I look worse than before the surgery, but this is not my main concern right now, I just want to FEEL better.
I am so glad I came across your posts and I have already contacted Dr.Thorne.
I wanted to ask you if you had any tests done prior to the revision that could show the excess of scar tissue? I had CT, but it doesn't show the fibrosis. I am wondering if ultrasound does. Did you have any tests or was it only during the surgery that the severe scar tissue was discovered?
I thank you in advance for the answer and also - for your posts. They were truly the only thing that gave me hope of recovery.

Loving297328, who was your original doctor?
January 3, 2023
Dr.Barnavon here in Hollywood, FL. I just left him a review here. I am sure he can't care less, but it could be a warning to other women.
He does mostly breasts, from what I understood and might be good at breasts surgeries. Not sure why he decided to work on my face... But the most frustrating part is that he has totally ignored my complains from the beginning and is ignoring my calls and messages now.
January 3, 2023
Ultrasound is incapable of picking up internal scar tissue. I was able to feel it inside my face. It was thick and globular. You are in great hands with Dr. Charles Thorne. If you should need to ask me any questions, feel free to message me. Anytime.
January 4, 2023
Thank you so much, Gia! I am still guessing if it is a scar tissue or the surgeon damaged something because I still have pain in my TMJ area (what I complained about from the very beginning) or he overpulled one side. It is hard to determine because I don't have ANY doctor to discuss it with. No-one actually, so I so much appreciate finding you. I will make a virtual consultation with Dr.Thorne (I am in FL), hope he will be able to diagnose virtually.
Thank you so much for responding, Gia!

Thanks for sharing the details about your revision. Can I ask where the scar tissue and sutures were located in the face? Many surgeons say scar tissue aka fibrosis can't be removed, but your story proves that it's possible.
October 5, 2022
P.S. Scar tissue can be removed. It's just a tedious process, and the surgeon must be super careful as scar tissue is often near nerves, and it is hard to differentiate between the two. From my experience, very few plastic surgeons want to deal with that issue. Instead, they prefer to perform facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, etc. That's what I meant when I wrote that they have their own agenda. Keeping that in mind, there is a risk that surgery could create more scar tissue. I was so uncomfortable for so long that I took that risk, and I usually am not a risk taker. I also don't have any medical background. For the past (close to) four years, I dove into researching my particular complication, and now I'm just sharing what I learned.
October 4, 2022
Scar tissue most definitely can be removed. I am living proof of that. A rather large ball of scar tissue was under my right cheek. More scar tissue ran up the right side of my jawline to the top of my right ear. The sutures were located on both sides of my face. During the tweak my initial surgeon performed, sutures were removed from both sides of my neck. Only my neck, while knowing there were more inside my face. The sutures used in my initial surgery were not dissolvable, no matter how often I was told they were.

It's worth checking him out. He will hear what you say, and if he can help you, he will. He won't string you along. Besides being an excellent surgeon, he's genuinely a decent man.

Thank you. So many doctors told me to go back to my original doctor the fix the pixie ears/ scars/ thick tragus etc. I did and he made it worse!

I am wondering if you can send me photos of your scars close up in a private email?

Ty for taking the time to answer me....
October 5, 2022
My discomfort came from internal scar tissue. I don't have visible scars. So I have to be honest and say that both doctors did a good job regarding that matter. Dr. Thorne works a lot with ears. I'm sure you saw that on his website.

Ty.
Would you say this is a 3rd time you went in. Dr. J tried to fix his mess?
December 3, 2024
Just did a consult with Dr. Thorne unfortunately he said that two out of 22 patients have found relief and he wasn't very hopeful with a case like mine that had a very tight feeling inside the face
October 6, 2022
Yes. This surgery with Dr. Thorne was # 3. Yes. Dr. J attempted (more like 1/2 attempted) to fix the mess with a "tweak." Meanwhile, I needed more than a tweak, and I'm pretty sure he knew that.

Dr. Charles Thorne - REVISION FACELIFT SUCCESS!

Gia C.
Post-op subcutaneous facelift and removal of scar tissue. Also, removal of sutures that never dissolved—finally feeling great at (almost ) 65 years old! These issues should have been addressed 3 years ago by my original surgeon.

Wow just Wow!!! You look so awesome. I would send these pictures to Dr. J's office special delivery. He needs to see how it is done.

Well, thank you very much!

Hi Gia - I can’t figure out how to direct message on here. I have the exact symptoms. Would you be willing to talk to me?
June 25, 2023
She was banned by Realself. I spoke to her before the ban and also had a Thorne revision after bad Jacono results so may be able to help
June 25, 2023
Can you share her contact? Did you have similar concerns as Gia? I had a consult with Thorne last week (before I received my operative reports). He now has them so hoping we can revisit this coming week.
June 25, 2023
I spoke to her just before you can no longer private message her. Not sure why though. . So you used Dr. Thorne as well? I was considering consulting with him but for first time surgery for facelift and neck lift. Are you happy with your results?
June 25, 2023
How was your consultation? Does he spend enough time going over issues?
June 25, 2023
No, I didn’t use Dr. Thorne previously. I reaching to him to help correct previous issues. My consult was via video as I am not local. He needed my operative reports to really offer his assessment, so more to come on that.
June 26, 2023
I meant my question for georgiapeachy. It sounds as though she used Dr. Thorne.
August 29, 2022
You look amazing! So natural and beautiful. So happy for you that you finally got the results you deserve. Your persistence has paid off and thanks for sharing your journey. I'm sure you are helping many of us our there who unfortunately chose the wrong surgeon. It's nice to know there are plastic surgeons who are actually interested in helping those of us with unfavorable surgery results.

Gia, I just wanted to thank you for responding to a direct message that I sent you over a month ago. I wholeheartedly appreciate your taking the time to write a long detailed message with plenty of much needed information. I’m sorry I couldn’t thank you in a timely fashion because I was experiencing a medical emergency and going through a lot. When I tried to send you a direct message today and couldn’t, I thought I’d leave you a thank you note here.

@keats19 I also have had recent conversations with Gia and had a few more questions for her but see her message button is off. I was sad to see that. Gia if you are seeing this can you contact me?

Foreign Matter Much Discomfort

Gia C.
These "dissolvable" sutures never dissolved, causing me much discomfort for almost four years. My original doctor told me he only used dissolvable sutures. Dr. Thorne removed them. He also removed scar tissue in my right cheek, areas on either side of my neck, and scar tissue that ran from my right jawline to the top of my right ear.

Dear Lord, the scar tissue!!! That is what was causing you so much pain??? I literally CAN. NOT IMAGINE what you went through. I could not do this for four years. I'm so glad you had such resolve to endure it. Ugh. So, so happy you have light at the end of your tunnel. XO
October 4, 2022
Thank you very much. I don't know how I trudged through. Most of the time, it was with the idea and hope that I would get better, being that's what my initial surgeon told me. But, I finally got to the point where I knew I could not believe him. So yes, thick scar tissue and non-dissolvable sutures were the culprits. But, I have to add that after my tweak by my initial surgeon, I felt slightly better when he released the platysma. At least that's what he said he did. But, the operative report of my tweak does not truthfully reflect the surgery and that is a fact. So I am very distrustful of all of it. Also, the bottom line is my initial surgery was way too aggressive.

May I ask how you are feeling now?
November 9, 2022
I am feeling MUCH better. Today marks four months since my surgery with Dr. Thorne. I still have some slight discomfort but NOTHING like what I suffered before seeing Dr. Thorne.
August 30, 2025
Hi Gia, I've been following this thread and rooting for you. Could you share how you are doing at this point and what, if anything you found to be helpful.
November 11, 2022
So happy for you! I think I have scar tissue from dr Jacono now also. Idk. I can feel the sutures still in my cheeks and some night I itch so bad in that area that I have to take a benedryl which I hate to do. He did a lower bleph on me that apparently should not have been done or been done by an occuloplastic surgeon. It retracted my lower lids. I saw an occuloplastic surgeon and he suggested I let an occuloplastic fix it. Dr Jacono talked me into letting him repair his mistake of taking too much skin but it was not fully fixed. I went back to the occuloplastic cause they still hurt and he said I now can’t touch them as my muscles were weakened and can’t be fixed. Guy Massry was the dr who says they are now unfixable. I like you have hope to figure this all out but it has taken a toll on me mentally. So happy you are repaired! Jacono has not offered anything for the eye that is still messed up and even if he did Massry says don’t touch it. He says I have to live this way.
November 11, 2022
Interesting. First, let me say that I'm sorry you're experiencing such discomfort. If anyone can understand, it's me. I genuinely hope you find a resolution to your issues. Your review of Dr. Jacono on April 27, 2020, should be removed as it sends the wrong message to prospective patients. Dr. Jacono is not a genius or "the man," as you wrote. That is just my opinion.
November 12, 2022
You are right. I am removing it. I did look much better at first but when he went back to revise some things he actually made things worse. My eyes have been killing me since. He removed too much fat and skin under my eyes.
November 12, 2022
If I were you, I would remove it and write a review about how you are currently feeling/doing. And again, I sincerely hope you find a resolution to your situation. Unfortunately, due to social media, people look at Dr. Jacono's before and after photos. What they can't see is the suffering his patients' experience. No one wants to ask how you're feeling. They're just interested in how you look. It is still the biggest regret of my life. I can never get those four years back.

Oh no! @googoofor you. Your review on Jocono fixing Kao's mistake was why I was going to try Jocono to fix me. I'm sorry you are suffering.
November 13, 2022
I don't know why anyone would consider having surgery with Dr. Jacono after reading a plethora of undeniably serious negative reviews of him that have been posted on this website. I have even posted a picture of sutures that, after four years, were removed from my face - which Dr. Jacono told me at least a dozen times were dissolvable. Clearly, they were not dissolvable sutures. So it doesn't surprise me that Googoo4you can feel her internal sutures.
November 14, 2022
Really? Were you planning on having surgery with Dr. Jacono after reading and posting on MRE's review?
