4 Month Post Op
AB Plastic Surgery
Going to AB Plastic Surgery in Seoul, Korea was decided on several factors. Most necessary part of this process was consultation & communication for life changing procedures outside of the country. My interpreter was instrumental in understanding what the doctors and nurses said during consult, operation, and aftercare. Though I’m Korean by birth I don’t speak or read it beyond kindergarten level. Silla, a calm soft spoken, young multilingual professional interpreter walked me through the various levels of what the clinic offers as well as the logistics of the process and gave me clear instructions after surgery. She was so patient when I traveled to other parts of Korea 1 wk post-op, getting on public transportation incorrectly made me late to follow ups but she got me seen no matter how late I was. She was a wonderful person to start the process of figuring out what procedure to elect, what to expect during the stay, and what makes sense overall for me specifically. I was conflicted in doing a lip lift OR rhinoplasty and since I was getting cheek reduction and jawline refining along w face lift, she advised me to think how uncomfortable I would be if I couldn’t breathe well through my nose had I done the rhino. She was so thorough in the information relayed to me by MDs and nurses and consultants, last thing I wanted is to be mislead by wrong or missed language of any kind in the final details before going under the knife!
Even more important than having clear communication, the results I wanted from all my elected procedures have become reality. Ultimately, having doctors who are masters of their craft and are responsive to answer concerns that came up, especially distressing swellings, pains, bumps and hardness in the incision sites, was so reassuring. Dr. Choi Jae Ik must’ve answered my worries 4-5 times without being dismissive, not just by a nurse or through the interpreter but IN PERSON. There were specific doctors for the facelift, eyelids and a Dr for facial bone alteration. I am in my late 50s so pretty much the majority of my face was refined and my girlfriends who came on this trip as my support team told me I look 20 yrs younger without radically changing my identity! First month, there was heavy swelling around my lids, around my facelift sutures and jaws but not to point where I feel disfigured as I was on 1st wk. I don’t see hollow under eyes and smile lines anymore YAY!
During my stay, unfortunately I couldn’t enjoy the spicy, salty, and crunchy cuisine, being limited to varieties of porridge but that is necessary part of recovery. Ultimately, I couldn’t have gotten these procedures done in the states as it is quite a lot more costly as well as I feel my Asian features isn’t something that western doctors are experts in especially for eyelids, cheeks and jaw reductions. They covered the pickup and drop off for final airport travel and included 10% tax refund at airport.
I am 4 months post surgery and what a relief the swellings have gone down significantly with most of my senses around the new areas of my face are back. The concern I have for my scars under my nose has not dissipated yet since it is still recovering but I believe everyone heals differently so I have to seek more information as time goes by.
The doctors that worked on my:
Eyes: Dr. Park Seong Ho
Face Lifting + PRP Facial Fat Grafting: Dr. Choi Jae Ik
Mandible Jaw+Cheekbone: Dr. Jo Dong Pil
