Sorry no pictures, but I am very private about my procedure, and I don’t want anyone to know I had it. If you feel the same way, and are looking for a totally natural improvement…read on!
My journey started over a year ago with Dr. Mustoe. I am 58 years old, and while I am in pretty good shape in terms of exercise, etc., I started to see unflattering changes in my face. I’ve used fillers for quite a few years, and they were starting to turn on me. There was pooling in the area beside my mouth, puffiness under my eyes and hollowness in my cheeks that couldn’t be fixed. On top of it, my neck was bothering me with loose skin. I had spent a small fortune on tightening techniques (ex., Ulthera) that weren’t having a noticeable impact on my situation.
I went to see Dr. Mustoe in hopes of finding a minimal (magical) solution that could stave off the inevitable for a bit. He was very honest with me. Not critical of my current looks at all, but very realistic about what non-invasive treatments would get me (not much). He suggested a lower facelift and neck lift with facial fat transfer. GULP. Who, me?? I’m too young, right?? Nope.
I went back to see him a few more times. Each time with more questions and concerns about what the results would be. My greatest concern was looking like a different person, and having my procedure be noticeable. I have a lot of interaction with clients, etc., in my work, and the thought of looking like someone who was cosmetically altered was frightening. He was very patient with my concerns. Never pressured me or tried to talk me into it. Just assured me that in his hands, I would have totally natural results. The only people that would know are those I decide to tell. I finally decided to go for it.
I was so nervous leading up to the surgery I could hardly stand it. The staff was reassuring, and before I knew it, the day was there! The surgery itself wasn’t too bad. I had local anesthesia, which I don’t regret due to cost savings and the lack of nausea, etc. that can happen with general. I was aware of things happening during surgery, but mostly was asleep (or in a drug-induced stupor!).
I had a few days of mild discomfort post-surgery. Things swelled up quite a bit on day 3, but overall nothing that was too alarming or scary. Just general discomfort with the incisions and staples, etc. My skin is sensitive, and I found the staples uncomfortable. During this time I experienced the roller coaster of regret that is a very normal part of the process. As I felt (and looked) better, all of that passed.
The facial swelling and bruising subsided in about a week. I could easily cover it with my hair and venture outside at that point, even returning to work on day 12 with no one the wiser.
I am about seven weeks post-surgery, and the results are BEYOND my expectations. I wanted to look better, but 100% natural, which is exactly the outcome. My neck is tight. My jawline is totally visible. My smile is natural. I still have the normal facial features that I’ve always had, so there’s not a tight pulled look. Kinda like I looked 10 years ago! People have commented that I look glowing, rested, etc. No one has asked “what did you do?”
Dr. Mustoe’s technique is really amazing. In addition, his staff was very kind and supportive. If you are in the Chicago area and looking for a way to look better, but still yourself…look no further!
