What should have been an easy top up of stable under eye filler became a months long nightmare. I had seen this provider for several years, so felt comfortable with the top up of under eye filler. During the procedure, he said that the filler was puffy and he had to dissolve it. He aggressively dissolved both eyes--leaving one eye hollow with a massive hematoma and the other eye/ cheek dented. When I say 'dented" I mean multiple disfiguring dents all throughout the under eye area and the cheek. A few days later he refilled the dents but put filler in the lashline and overfilled the cheek. This caused massive swelling throughout the eye and cheek as well as severe and disfiguring malar edema. I asked him to dissolve the under eye and he refused--first telling me that he could "roll the filler" into "another plane like toothpaste". I declined as I felt traumatizing the area with aggressive rolling was not a good idea. The second visit however I felt more desperate for some help, so I agreed. As expected, there was no benefit only more swelling. He eventually agreed the rolling was "not a good plan" and started dissolving the eye filler. This proved challenging because he doesn't have ultrasound--he kept lamenting this fact and said in the future he would refuse to dissolve filler for patients . It was shocking to me that he would not invest in the equipment needed to do this work precisely. I went through 7 rounds of dissolving-- initially each seemed to improve the puffiness, but unfortunately the swelling would just come back along with worsening cheek edema. I also had to beg for each appointment because he never checked on my situation, never scheduled a follow up automatically despite the swelling causing physical discomfort of the eye (in addition to looking terrible). At one point he handed me a pair of glasses and said that I could wear them to hide the disfiguring damage. As tone deaf as that action was, the actual last straw happened when I requested an appointment and suggested imaging of the eye at an outside facility. I received a message from Mae/Yang stating "yes do that because the prior provider who placed my filler was responsible " for the swelling. Yang's refusal to take responsibility for his poor quality work was not only unprofessional but highly unethical. Since my last visit I have been to multiple plastic surgeons, eye surgeons and dermatologists and it appears that surgery will be required to address the chronic eye swelling. I have consulted with the top expert on malar edema and plan to do a laser--but there are no guarantees as my case is quite severe. Bottom line is that George Yang has a lot of interesting ideas about aging but he does not possess the technical skill or professionalism to do this work. To prospective patients: Under eye mistakes are extremely distressing, uncomfortable and expensive--please proceed carefully with any decision you make. Mistakes may not be reversible and will be very costly--my case proves this.
