26 Year Old Upper Blepharoplasty

Heavy eyelids run in my family. I have always hated having "hooded eyes" and knew they would just keep getting worse the older I got, so I decided to do something about it. I have my surgery today, July 28th, which also just so happens to be my birthday! I can't wait to see the outcome and am so thankful for the ability to get this surgery done so early in life.
I'm seeing Dr. Boerner in Boise, ID. He has come highly recommended to me and I've enjoyed meeting with him for my consultation and pre-op appointments. He's very knowledgeable and explains step by step the whole process of anything we're doing.

You and I are in the same boat with the genetic hooded eyes. I’ve put up with a lot growing up with it. I’m sure you did too. I’m a little bit older at 35, but I really want it done. My one eye is so much worse. You’re updated pics look great. Did insurance cover any of your cost? I think it would be really difficult being younger, but I’m going to a consult just to see what it would cost me. Any response you could give would be amazing! You don’t see many younger people on it, so I definitely wanted to ask!

Hi! No, my insurance didn't pay, but I used Care Credit and was able to pay it off interest free. It wasn't bad at all! I'm really glad I got it done and feel like the recovery was so much easier since I am young! I hope it all works out for you!

Day of surgery

lcgvra
Day of went really well! I’m not sure about others, but I was given the option to take Valium before the procedure to relax me since it’s done only under local anesthetic. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this if given the option. I was very relaxed the entire time. We went through step by step what would take place and then I was shown again what the expected outcome would be. Then we moved into the surgical suite.
The only “painful” part of the whole thing was the local anesthetic being injected. It just felt like small pinches. After that, I felt nothing. I was asked to open my eyes a few times to check that everything was symmetrical, but it was very quick altogether. They called my husband for me and let him know I was ready to go, gave us both post-op instructions and we were free to go. They also gave me a pretty flower arrangement, which was sweet. It’s the little things!
I had no pain all night, just felt that my eyelids were a bit tight. I left my tape on until bedtime and when removed it to put my ointment on I was really impressed with how neat it all looked. My right eyelid drooped more than my left, so the sutures are higher on that side, but I believe the scars will sit nicely in my crease when healed.

Nice! Looks great. I had an upper and lower done and had propofol. Was given the option for doing it with just local but hail no! Did not want any part of being awake for that. Was $1K extra for the anesthesiologist and SO worth it.

I'm so glad you were happy with your surgery too! If I had done upper and lower I probably would have opted for something more than Valium, but I was just fine with it for my procedure! I'm really excited to see the results in a few weeks. Did your recovery go well?

Your eyes look amazing. I had mine done under a local too 3 weeks ago. I wasn't offered anything prior and I was fine throughout. No pain during or after.
July 31, 2020
That's awesome! Have they healed up pretty well in those three weeks?
July 31, 2020
They have healed really well. I had a lot of bruising down my cheek, which my surgeon apologised for. That's still present and my stitch line is still a bit lumpy where the stitches were but it's getting less and less. I'm still using the ointment 3 times a day.

Wow, your results are fantastic. How long was the surgery from start to finish?
October 25, 2020
So sorry I missed this comment! It was about an hour and a half to two hours including the prep time before to walking out the door. The surgery itself took about 45 minutes is all.

Day 2-3

lcgvra
Extremely happy with my results so far! I haven’t had any pain, just some irritation when they get too dry, at which point I just reapply my ointment. The swelling on day two was also uncomfortable but mainly because I just couldn’t open my eyes fully.

The swelling has gone down a bit since yesterday so I’m assuming I’ll start to see more bruising soon. My right eye is still more swollen, but that side had more skin removed so it’s to be expected.
