Heavy eyelids run in my family. I have always hated having "hooded eyes" and knew they would just keep getting worse the older I got, so I decided to do something about it. I have my surgery today, July 28th, which also just so happens to be my birthday! I can't wait to see the outcome and am so thankful for the ability to get this surgery done so early in life. I'm seeing Dr. Boerner in Boise, ID. He has come highly recommended to me and I've enjoyed meeting with him for my consultation and pre-op appointments. He's very knowledgeable and explains step by step the whole process of anything we're doing. Updated on 29 Jul 2020: Day of went really well! I’m not sure about others, but I was given the option to take Valium before the procedure to relax me since it’s done only under local anesthetic. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this if given the option. I was very relaxed the entire time. We went through step by step what would take place and then I was shown again what the expected outcome would be. Then we moved into the surgical suite. The only “painful” part of the whole thing was the local anesthetic being injected. It just felt like small pinches. After that, I felt nothing. I was asked to open my eyes a few times to check that everything was symmetrical, but it was very quick altogether. They called my husband for me and let him know I was ready to go, gave us both post-op instructions and we were free to go. They also gave me a pretty flower arrangement, which was sweet. It’s the little things! I had no pain all night, just felt that my eyelids were a bit tight. I left my tape on until bedtime and when removed it to put my ointment on I was really impressed with how neat it all looked. My right eyelid drooped more than my left, so the sutures are higher on that side, but I believe the scars will sit nicely in my crease when healed. Updated on 30 Jul 2020: Extremely happy with my results so far! I haven’t had any pain, just some irritation when they get too dry, at which point I just reapply my ointment. The swelling on day two was also uncomfortable but mainly because I just couldn’t open my eyes fully. The swelling has gone down a bit since yesterday so I’m assuming I’ll start to see more bruising soon. My right eye is still more swollen, but that side had more skin removed so it’s to be expected. Updated on 3 Aug 2020: I figured I’d look like I got punched in the face while I was recovering from eyelid surgery, but honestly I haven’t had any of that. Maybe because I’m young and recovering quickly? Or maybe my doctor was really just that good! Updated on 4 Aug 2020: Updated on 7 Aug 2020: Looking good! I’ll post in a couple weeks about how my scar is healing too Updated on 8 Jan 2021: It’s almost been 6 months so I wanted to upload some more photos of my progression! I love them. Hopefully you can see how well they’ve healed!
Within 2 weeks is where you see the maximum effect. If this has not improved by then, I would contact your injector and let them know what is going on so they can modify your treatments. Without knowing location and number of units it is hard to make an assessment, however rule of thumb is to let your injector know about your results so they can have you come in for a follow up assessment if they feel you need to be seen.
