Finally remembered to take photos! A big question I had going into my procedure was about scarring. The chin scar really, REALLY goes away. Mine was indented for a little bit, which stressed me the *#?~ out, but I included a photo so you can see how faint it is now. It is the same level and texture as the rest of the skin in the area.
I’m very happy I got this done at the age I did so I didn’t need any skin-tightening treatments. The ONLY downside has been lockjaw caused by the compression garment. I’ve always had TMJ issues, which we discussed prior to my treatment, but the garment shifted something and I still haven’t regained full opening. While the aesthetic results are amazing, I really miss being able to fully open my jaw. The doctors didn’t have any advice beyond “go see a specialist,” and the specialists I’ve seen have said it might take years to regain full mobility. So... that’s fun. I choose not to dwell on it too much and try to prioritize the positive aspects of my experience.
If you DO suffer from TMJ, please discuss this much more in depth with the office before your procedure. See what kinds of compression garments are offered and discuss how they shift your jaw. Then bring those options to your dentist / oral surgeon so they can pick which would be best. It will take some extra time, but I promise it’ll be worth it.

I keep forgetting to take new photos, but I wanted to post a quick update!
During my recovery, I experienced numbness in the central chin/neck area. This has now gone away & I have full feeling back. When I tilt my head all the way back, it’s still a little bit tight but not too bad.
In the first 1-1.5 months, I worried about the chin scar. It was a tiny indent at that point. I didn’t realize that I was still swollen (I know they TELL you but since the area was smaller than before, I didn’t see it as swelling). After the swelling went down, the scar was no longer indented. It remains pink, but I don’t cover it unless I’m doing a full face of makeup. My foundation covers it in one swipe, so it’s easy to conceal when I feel like it.
Overall I’m very satisfied with my results. I’m one of those people where my friends didn’t understand why I was getting this done. When I was just around people, they didn’t see the fat there. It’s very clear in my before & after photos, but was overlooked by most people— but for me, it was a huge insecurity. I no longer have to deal with that worry about how itll look in photos, or from certain angles.
I was asked about skin elasticity in a PM. I don’t have any loose skin in the area. I’m 27, so my skin bounced back easily. If you’re worried about this, I’ve read great things about lasers that tighten skin, but have never tried any myself.

Bruising (Day 5)
So I originally said that I didn’t bruise at all. Turns out I was wrong, and if you look at my first After photos, you can see that it’s just a result of the lighting I quickly took them in! I have a large amount of yellow bruising all around my neck, which I noticed when I took my compression garment off for my first shower & was looking in brighter light.
I’ve put topical arnica on it a few times and am hoping it fades soon! Still happy that it’s yellow and not blue/green. Managed to wash the surgical marker off last night (Thurs, day 5). It was painful and difficult to get off my skin. Wishing they used something less water-proof.
