I was 64 years old when I finally decided to do something about my thin legs which had bothered me for a lifetime. No matter how hard I tried to improve my calf muscles with intense workouts at the gym they simply didn't respond. This a common problem area for a lot of people with genetically underdeveloped calves. I'm conservative when it comes to anything involving surgery. I've known about the calf implant procedure for at least 15 years, but felt their weren't that many qualified surgeons who do this procedure on a regular basis to make me feel comfortable about having it done.
It is still a fairly limited procedure but more cosmetic surgeons are now performing it as it seems to be increasing in popularity. I had at least 5 consultations with other surgeons over a 5 year period before deciding on Dr. Younai. I chose him for many reasons. First he seemed to have the most experience and had some of the best before and after photos I had seen. Second, he was patient to answer all of my questions, and their were many. I think he knew he was dealing with a nervous patient who would need added reassurance. And third, his office staff were very professional, and the surgery center in Encino was clean and well maintained.
I told Dr. Younai what my expectations were about sizing but left the final decision to his judgment and experience. I was pleased with his choice. The day of the surgery everything went smoothly. I was able to walk on the first day with limited pain with the help of a walker. I was worried about how I would react to the anesthesia but had few side affects from it. I saw him the following day for a quick check up before heading home which was an hour and a half away. Recovery went well and was quicker than I expected. No unexpected post op problems. limited swelling and mild bruising.
I'm pleased with the results and only regret not being able to do this 25 years ago. For the first time in my life I can look at my legs in the mirror and not feel my energy draining out of me. If you are like me with calves that just don't respond no matter how hard you work them, I highly recommend this procedure and Dr. Younai. Don't waste ten or fifteen years trying to make them grow as I did. Its very unlikely to happen to any serious degree. I will post photos at some later date
