After my second child, my abdominal muscles were...

After my second child, my abdominal muscles were just completely blown out. At 5'4 and 125 lbs., I was at the ideal weight, but even after 3.5 years post birth, my stomach felt funny bending over and it hurt to hold my children. Bending over to bath my children was hard. Even sitting and driving felt funny sometimes. My PS diagnosed me with an umbilical hernia and distasis recti from top to bottom. When I quit nursing after a year, my previously cute A almost B cup went to practically concave. I could hardly wear any clothes in my closet because it would be too revealing, even if it wasn't low cut. I didn't want to be seen naked. I had never ever expected that I would do a Mommy Makeover, but it was important for my abdomen and back function and for my confidence. And once I heal, I hope to be able to hold my children for a much longer period of time than if I hadn't had surgery. FYI, I have a health history of celiac disease and immune system dysfunction, but I worked with my integrative medicine doctor to get myself really healthy prior to surgery. Probably the best thing I did was eat Paleo and high dose vitamin C.

My husband and I could literally not be any happier or more impressed with Dr. Markmann. He was exceptional from our lengthy, yet not rushed consultation to the post surgery follow up appointments (which we always saw him for-I thought we would see a nurse at some point!). I know I asked all sorts of crazy questions and he was so patient and thorough with each one. But I also love that he gave a really long talk about a mommy makeover procedure in general so that I didn't have to ask hardly any questions. He was very realistic about the challenges of having children while healing from this procedure and gave great advice. He calmed my fears about silicone implants and made me go from apprehensive to excited--a real accomplishment given my anxious nature. We really liked his confidence and his explanation on how he does things for his patients' safety and better results. I'm sure there are other good plastic surgeons in the area, but I assure you that you cannot go wrong with this Baltimore Top Doc. His clients say that he under promises and over delivers, which I really respect. So when he said I would have great results, I was again excited and he has been right. I am two weeks post-op now and I joke about my new torso like Ariel's from the Little Mermaid. Rock solid abs! We have been very carefully following his advice so that we can have good results. I was also impressed with the surgery wing at North West. It is recently renovated and all of the staff was superb and very kind. I was very impressed with the medical care I received, including an unexpected heart problem I encountered during surgery. Word to the wise-this is major surgery and you will need someone to take care of you for at least a week. We ended up not having our children in the house for 10 nights, which was a little emotional, but I was simply not up for having them around. So try to line up really good childcare and meals if you can. This is also stressful on your caretaker, but if your spouse is able to work from home, it worked out great for us. At first I regretted it being a little loopy on narcotics, but now I am glad that I did this for myself and know that I will have a stronger, more confident body moving forward. Many thanks to Dr. Markmann for keeping me safe and enhancing this mama!
