Love Results, Wasn't Prepared for Initial After Effects - Elk Grove, IL
After some research I decided for the first time...
After some research I decided for the first time to have Juvederm injected into my upper lip to get rid of lip lines. I am 46 years old and had a couple deep ones but in general felt like my lip was slowly sinking in. THE PROCEDURE ON A FRIDAY AT NOON: All went well in the office, he used a dental block that totally numbed my lips so I had no discomfort, I left pretty puffy because of the combined anesthetic and Juvederm. Unfortunately by that night I was really swollen and I'd say it didn't go down for about 30 hours. I looked like a duck. I started icing my lip but I think I was getting to it too late. I had light bruising above my lip but major abrasion/bruising underneath my lip. ON SUNDAY:I felt like I looked "normal" enough to leave the house. ON TUESDAY I felt like my lips looked totally normal but still have some slight bruising which I had to cover up with makeup. BOTTOM LINE: I will do it again, very happy with the results, lip a little fuller, lines 95% gone, barely there. Will definitely apply ice immediately starting after the procedure, will make sure I have no big plans for the weekend which luckily I didn't this time around. I'm not sure I'd do the anesthetic block again as I think that was half of my swelling issue with the trauma to the underside of my lip. I will have a little bit put into my lower lip next time too as I think the lips are about even in size now and probably the lower one should be a little bigger than the upper one.
I wrote my original review almost 3 years ago....
This time I had juvederm. He told me because of my paleness and the thin skin in the eye area he'd go deep and he did, there is NO bluish or tyndall effect, they look wonderful, I'm thrilled! my bags are gone. Barely a touch of concealer for even color is all I need.
TIPS on juvederm or maybe any filler is no aleve or aspirin for days ahead but also no vit e or flax seed or any omega 3's.
When I come home I ice on and off for 5 minutes every hour for the first 5 or 6 hours and then every 2 hours or so before I go to bed. Its normal for it to be kinda hard feeling at first and you will probably feel it with your finger tips. It will soften after awhile, the key is how does it LOOK? I bruise a little so I usually only do it on a Friday with no weekend plans. Some swelling for the first day or two. Sometimes on my lips I'll get a bruise that will last longer, a week or so. I think alot of it has to do with the person applying but I bruise pretty easily. The latest version of juvederm has an anesthetic in it so a different one does not need to be applied. The first pokes in each location hurt and then after that I don't feel much.

Hi cmclien -- Thanks for coming back and updating your post three years later. Wow! You don't know how helpful this is. :)
I'm glad to hear you're still happy with your fillers (Radiesse notwithstanding) and have had repeatable results with them. That's fabulous.
