Kybella Paralysis Almost Resolved
barneyjim92June 4, 2017
$1,500
My Kybella paralysis is looking much better now, picture attached. I don't recommend anyone doing this procedure if you're thinking about it, just too risky. I think we should all stop being so superficial & save our money for retirement lol!

No change with paralysis

Just a quick update! No change in the paralysis, adjusting quite well to it now. Hardest when drinking liquids and brushing my teeth(the spitting part is difficult). Let you know when it looks/feels back to normal.

How long is this expected to last?
May 5, 2017
I'll send positive thoughts that you'll be on the shortened end of that time line. I certainly hope you get good results to the chin at least!

It will go back to looking normal and feeling normal in time. Still not okay. Thats not what you signed up for or paid money for. It's embarrassing to have to look at people and conduct business until this resolves. I would think about explaining to the provider that you will post your experience on social media and on kybella website if they don't refund your money especially since you felt something funny regarding the taste in your mouth and the heaviness of the lip and she still continued with the service. Not okay.... but you will be!

Yes! You totally get it my little Paralyzed twin! I have my own private practice & have had to repeatedly explain my crooked smile to all my clients, VERY embarrassing. I went back to the office demanding a refund which was no problem. They wanted to inject the other side of my mouth with Botox to "even out the smile" but I refused. Can you believe also that right after the treatment while I was still looking at myself in disbelief in the mirror the injector says to me, "everything has a silver lining." Just downright b**chy to me. I'm venting now lol sorry! Just nice to know someone who knows exactly what I'm going through now. Thanks so much for your encouragement!

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to see this happen to anyone.
May 4, 2017
I had the same damn thing happen to me! I never read a review that someone experienced nerve damage until now. I had mine done over a year ago. It took about 8 weeks before i was back to looking normal. My lower lip is still a little thicker.
May 5, 2017
no significant results. kind in mind i only had 1 treatment and its recommended to have a few treatments to see results. i did research on the facility i went to and it had great reviews in general. the problem was the doctor did not do the treatment an office staff member did. it was an injector error (office staff member). i didn't know there was a problem until the next day. after consulting with the office i was told the issues would resolve in a couple of days, then a week, then 2 weeks, then a month! it took 8 weeks before i had a normal appearance. Sooooo disappointing!

Sorry you had the same results from your first treatment. I also will not be getting any further treatments since I'm too afraid of this happening again. Glad the paralysis lasted only 2 months for you, still felt like forever I'm sure though! I had a periodontist perform the treatment on me, found her 'center' on the Kybella website. You trust that these doctors know what they're doing!

I want to ask both of you, Faroutt and J. How much Kybella was injected, when they hit you nerve?
May 20, 2017
I felt the R side of my lower lip becoming numb immediately during the very first 2 little injections she performed, excruciating pain. Of course that's when she hit my nerve.

Hello Faroutt, I am currently going through the same heartbreaking experience and it is the worst. Have you also gone back completely normal feeling and appearance wise? Thank you

Sorry to hear about your experience. Strange you don't want to share who injected you if you really want to help people. BTW - Board Certified Dermatologists can inject and they do a wonderful job by using the template and mapping out where to inject so I don't think it is necessary to say to people to only go to a plastic surgeon. I don't think Kybella works as well as they advertise and most need 4 to 6 treatments of 2 vials each treatment which is ridiculous and people are better off saving their money or doing chin lipo that actually gets results and even without being put to sleep which many hate that part. If I were you I would talk to a lawyer about your situation. Get your money back and then some.

42 yr old, overall fit woman who wanted to have...

42 yr old, overall fit woman who wanted to have Kybella procedure for a small double chin that's been bothering me for a couple years. Didn't want invasive surgery, Kybella sounded ideal to me. I TRUSTED, who I now know as an unskilled Kybella injector, the doctor I chose to complete my first Kybella treatment with only the expected side effects of swelling and pain. Immediately at beginning of the procedure, I felt my lower lip feeling fatter and then numb along with a metallic taste in my mouth. I told her this as she continued injecting. I now have paralysis because she hit my nerve, something an experienced injector would never do. I have a very crooked smile now, I dribble & drool liquids that I drink & chewing foods makes my jaw ache. I literally look like I had a stroke. The public needs to be informed of incompetent injectors like the one I had. To top it off, she knows that she screwed up yet still charged me full price. I didn't realize how bad it looked until I arrived home and looked more closely in the mirror, otherwise I would've refused to pay. Please do your homework and find a reputable plastic surgeon for this procedure.

So sorry to hear that. I had it done yesterday as well. They told me that could be a side effect, although it was rare and ultimately reversible. It is true that my injector took a lot of time deciding where not to inject, in order to avoid a nerve. Your paralysis shouldn't be permanent, but it must be very annoying.

Sorry what's the Drs name

Thanks, just highly suggesting you see a PLASTIC SURGEON for this procedure.

omg, first i am so sorry you are going through this, i know exactly what you are going through because i went through the same thing but with a thermitight procedure of the neck.
it was during the procedure with a pass of the probe, i felt an INSTANT numbness of my right jaw which felt weird and different. i remember looking in the mirror immediately afterwards and being horrified at how my smile was crooked. at first i thought it was just a temporary thing until the anesthetic wore off but sadly it persisted for weeks.
at first i cried and cried, angry at myself for putting myself through such a traumatic event all because of my stupid vanity. i was angry too at my doctor for being so overly aggressive in passing the probe.
hopefully i can make you feel better sharing my own experience and recovery.
(full disclosure, i am in the medical field and actually professionally inject patients every day at work. you can private message me for details if you like.)
right now, i feel your pain, shock, anger and misery. i'm so sorry for that. i will tell you that i was beating myself up thinking i would forever look like a stroke or bell's palsy sufferer. gradually over time my motor function to my lip did return but it took an excruciatingly loooooooong time.
feel free to private message me for more details, it's hard to summarize in one paragraph my experience but today i am back to normal. i'm hoping you too have the same good outcome, but so sorry for the psychological trauma of going through this:(

Thanks, you totally feel my pain then. Glad you made it through it! Knowing it's not permanent is a huge relief, it's just living with it in the meantime. Take care.
April 25, 2017
Sorry about that! What is the Dr. name?
April 25, 2017
Thanks. I don't want to mention any names. After my Kybella experience, I'm highly suggesting you find a PLASTIC SURGEON to do the treatment.
April 25, 2017
Thanks, glad you had a positive experience! Sounds like you had a great doctor who took the time with you. My doctor injected 2 vials in about 3 minutes. I wish you the best of luck with your results. As for myself, no more Kybella treatments for obvious reasons!

I'm very glad to hear your facial paralysis is subsiding. Lesson learned.
