Great Experience

I undertook surgery (otoplasty) 10 days ago which was conducted by David Gault. Although my ears were mildly protruded (24mm), I felt the need to have them pinned back. I am one of those patients that wanted my ears aggressively pinned back. David’s key priority was to obtain a natural look.
After seeing the results at 10 days, I am more than impressed. The ears are now set back (15mm) and the shape of the ears has remained the same.
David has a very witty sense of humour, however, it’s quite similar to mine, so I found it quite funny. The surgery was very comfortable and the nurses were very kind. It’s always best to go to a surgeon that is confident and knows what he is doing, as you don’t simply want a ‘yes man’. In my case, this proved to be very important.
The first 24 hours after surgery were very painful (once the anaesthetic wore off), however, the pain significantly reduced after that. I definitely recommend Dr Gault to anyone that is looking to undertake ear surgery.

I was initially happy with the surgery, however, the level of care and support after the surgery has been shambolic. Before the surgery, I was slightly concerned about the myriad of reviews stating how Dr Gault and his office are borderline arrogant and have poor patient care/service. I initially thought that some previous patients may be over-exaggerating. However, I too have experienced this.
It is a big shame that you pay £6000+ and they do not care at all. I would be happy to change this review if their attitude changed, however, I am not holding my breath.
My right ear is starting to relax and looks a fair bit asymmetrical to the left ear. I let Dr Gault’s office know, but all they could say is that it is ‘very rare’. I have not been assured that something can be done about the issue. Very very disappointed.

It has now been 9 months since the surgery. The result looks good. I still have some minor pain, and will go for a checkup with Dr Gault. The doctor is good at what he does. Not sure I can say the same about his secretary.

I have developed severe pain in my right ear in particular. I have tried to reach out to the office multiple times, but they just say ‘they have never experienced anything like this in 30 years’. So they have never experienced people feeing pain at the site of incisions 10 months post op? They are just professionals at providing zero help. I have been totally polite and patient with them. However, I was told that I need to pay 240 pounds to see Dr Gault, ridiculous. I will need to now see a consultant ENT specialist and get a second opinion.

Earlier this year I had an appointment with Mr Gault. I found him to be witty although largely dismissive of my concerns. I have had several medical and cosmetic consultations over the years and have never met such an unsympathetic medic. Unfortunately there are few surgeons who carry out some of the procedures Mr Gault performs therefore he has few competitors. This situation is rarely positive for pts as they have few alternative options. It is also (in the wrong hands) taken advantage of by the surgeons as they can become rather blasé and arrogant.
Hopefully you will have a more positive experience than I had.
