Botched Otoplasty
Botched Otoplasty
I’ve been debating posting this for years, but I figure if I can stop someone from making the same mistake I did, I consider this posting to be a success. When I was a kid, I had my ears pinned by Dr. Gelfant. The results were horrible from the get-go. He had over-corrected my ears to the extent of cartilage poking through the skin of my anti-helixes. Then things got worse. He didn’t want to do a follow-up surgery, so he numbed my ears and cut out my anti-helixes almost completely—dropping pieces of my ear in front of my face. The skin on what is left of my anti-helixes are so thin, I can barely hold a phone against them, even after all these years. I’ve had over twenty people ask me what happened to my ears, and even had one person tell me they look like someone chewed on them. The overcorrection, I can deal with, but the immense scarring still brings me grief to this day. Years after his work was done, I went to another plastic surgeon who could not believe what Dr. Gelfant did to my ears. She was dumbfounded and even took pictures to send to her other colleagues. This truly was a nightmare experience. Dr. Gelfant’s reviews on another popular doctor’s rating website are much less forgiving.
