"It Looks Like You Were Born Like This"

Stop right there—! You’ve found your surgeon. Doctor Rady Rahban changed my life, and if you give him a few moments of your time, he could change yours too.

A little about myself to give you some context. I’m a female in my twenties who has harbored a great insecurity my entire life… my massive ears. A lot of people might not think it’s a big deal (yes, pun intended), but for me, my ears have been a constant anxiety. As a little girl, I felt like “Dumbo” (or more like a Ferengi for you Star Trek fans out there) until I learned the art of hiding my ears with my hair. And yes, even right up to this last year… this dread I had about my appearance haunted me.

After years of searching the internet for the “perfect” plastic surgeon, I fell upon Doctor Rahban. His reviews seemed surreal. Hundreds upon hundreds of reviews and an average of 5 STARS?! People said he was a true artist. Some woman said he was “gifted by God Himself.” Consider my attention grabbed.

I emailed the office. I got a reply in short time from the very pleasant patient coordinator, Maggie. She gave me all the information I needed and there was a sweetness about her that instantly put me at ease. She gave me price estimates right away which was SUCH a relief. The consult fee was included in the total, as well as all post-op check ups.

THE CONSULT: Doctor Rahban let me express what my desired appearance would be. I wanted an “ear pinning” as well as a “lobe reduction.” He gave me a hopeful, yet realistic idea of what my results would be. He was kind, pragmatic, and confident in his abilities. He was honest and up front about the risks involved. In one conversation, I knew I had found my surgeon!

SCHEDULING: After the consult, I was sent to Sally in scheduling. Now I say “scheduling” but Sally is SO MUCH MORE than that. She went above and beyond her call of duty to make this process seamless for me— Including navigating the hectic COVID-19 testing requirements and new pandemic protocols. I could devote a 5-Star review entirely to her! Suffice to say, she took care of me.

THE SURGERY: The surgery center was very clean. The anesthesiologist came in first and explained in great detail what to expect from the anesthesia and its after effects. I remember Doctor Rahban came in after, marked my ears with a pen of sorts, and then made a witty joke. His bedside manner was phenomenal. I then went to the operating table, got a gas mask over my face, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up. Two and a half hours gone by in a flash.

POST-OP: I will honestly say, the pain was pretty severe the first three days after surgery, and the anesthesia gave me a two day migraine (this is normal for me). However, more frustrating than the pain was how difficult it was to sleep on my back because I’m exclusively a side/belly sleeper. At one point, I was so exhausted and desperate for sleep that I jerry rigged a platform of pillows underneath me so that I could actually sleep face down with my forehead resting on my forearm. But after three days, my condition improved exponentially! The worst of it was over.

Eight days later, my surgical bandages were removed. I got to see the results. I nearly burst into tears. Perfect. My ears were perfect. They were bruised and swollen and numb but my God were they beautiful to me. They were the ears I’ve dreamed of my whole life. I was given headbands to wear every minute of the day (except when showering) for six whole weeks. Doctor Rahban was adamant about keeping the headband on at all times. I thought to myself, ‘I’ve waited my whole life for this… I can wear a headband for six weeks.’ And I did.

CONCLUSION: It’s been three months since my surgery. My ears have healed beautifully and evenly. The numbness is completely gone. There is the slightest tenderness, but no pain whatsoever. My parents and closest friends are mind-blown by how natural my ears look. I keep hearing from them over and over again, “It looks like you were born like this.”

I wish I had been born like this, but because I wasn’t, I’m so thankful I found Doctor Rady Rahban. He is a true artist. A quick perusal on his website gallery will show you that he’s not just gifted with Otoplasties. He performs plastic surgeries on all parts of the body head to toe.

I know how scary it is to pick a plastic surgeon. It takes a level of trust we don’t often and freely give. But I put my trust in Doctor Rahban, and thank God I did.
