48 Year Old - It's Me Time! - Harrogate, GB

So I wasn't sure when I would start writing but it...

So I wasn't sure when I would start writing but it seemed appropriate for it to be on my first consultation day. It was the first time I have actually showed my belly to anyone (other than my husband!).
This is something I have always wanted to have done - I was an overweight child/teenager. Put on weight when my mum died when I was 19. Went up to 14.5 stone. Lost 4st then put it back with 2 pregnancies. In 2000 I lost the same 4st again and for the last 16 years I've managed to stay between 10 and just over 11. But I have to be honest I have always had a flabby belly!
So I saw Mr Mcdiurmid today and he said I would make an excellent candidate. Hip to hip scar tummy tuck with lipo (he says they always do lipo with his tts) He looked at my back and said it was fine. I agreed with everything he said. He drew on me and it's amazing to see how much will be gone! I'm excited and can't wait I just wAnt to get on with it!! I am now awaiting cost and dates!

I'm 3 weeks pre-op!!!!

Wow had my confirmation of cost £5655, plus £95 for compression garment and I booked my surgery today and it's on 15th August! I am buzzing!!!

Period hell

So my TT is in 24 hours and I've just got my period! Oh no, I more worried about that than the surgery! ????

Today's the day!

At hospital now and op scheduled for about an hour and a halfs time. Consultant had just marked me up! Don't feel too bad just want to get on with it! :)

I'm on the flat side!

So I'm out! Felt really tired after, still do, nurses have been great keeping my pain under control. I have no idea what it looks like! The cg goes all the way down my legs! How on earth am I gonna to wear that!!!! Just so glad to be in the other side! :)

1 day post op

7am 16/8/16 Terrible nights sleep but I did sleep some so that's something. Was concerned that I didn't go for a wee after surgery. I tried twice at 6pm then 2am but just couldn't go on the commode and was sick both times. So my bladder was feeling really full at 6am! I asked to go on the loo and it worked - once I started I couldn't stop! I think I was trickling for about 5minutes! I'm sure I got the gold for Team GB!! Also no sickness this time. Yay!
Pain is manageable in fact I thought it would be a lot worse. Fingers crossed it stays that way. One night to go in hospital then I can go home.

Day 1 post op evening

So I have been feeling better and better all day. My flotons are now gone and the drains have been clamped ready to come out later. Then I'm free! I saw the consultant this evening and he said he took away a kilo of mainly skin and 800cc of lipo so that's 4lbs. I'm on only paracetamol now. I'm really pleased the pain hasn't been half as bad as I'd feared. He also said it shouldn't take me too long to stand up straight as he'd 'quilted' me and taken mainly skin. Cannot wait to go home tomorrow and sleep in my own bed!

Day 2 post op

Wow what a difference 24 hours make! This time yesterday I was struggling to get out of bed and wee!
So my drains came out at 11.15pm last night. It didn't hurt at all! Something to do with it being bloody instead of dry. I was holding the gas and air tube but not needed - I didn't feel a thing! In fact the nurse stopped at one point as I went oooo, but I was watching Team GB and Jason Kenny get his final gold! She thought I was hurting!!!!
Just on paracetamol now and I can go home when I am ready. I'm not sleeping well at all but hopefully I will get some better sleep at home.
I haven't seen my wound yet, but will need to wash my cg so will have a look later.
So far so good, to be honest I've had more pain in my back and neck than my tummy!
That's mainly just sore.

Day 3 post op

Even though I've been doing really well I had a bit of a downer yesterday thinking what was the point. I think because I am still really swollen I'm thinking it doesn't seem much different (silly I know!)
I haven't seen the scar or belly button yet. I suppose I will see it after 1 week because that's my follow up. I can't shower yet and I still have to wear compression socks.
Other than that the only real pain is my back! I think the hospital bed made it worse. But it was nice to come to my own bed last night and I slept much better. Also had 2 naps during the day yesterday.
I managed to get my wonderful husband who cannot do enough for me to take some pics of underneath the garment. :)

Day 4 post op

I'm wondering if I'm doing too much. By too much I don't mean anything in particular. But I did go out in the car yesterday to visit relatives it was door to door but maybe I should be putting my feet up all the time? I'm also going out for coffee with my hubbie now, again it's door to door. I don't know how much is too much? I feel quite well so it's very difficult to know! Im sleeping in my back with my knees raised by 2 pillows. Should I be laying like that? Questions questions today.

Day 6 post op

Well not much to report over the last 2 days except off the paracetamol now. Only took a couple doses yesterday. My back aches every morning when I wake but hubbie had been rubbing in 12 hour voltarol and that has been working brilliantly and I've only needed it each morning. Hubbie back to work tomorrow I will miss his company. But I have my yellow lab Poppy for company. I made my own breakfast and a couple of cups of tea today. I am walking round absolutely fine still slightly hunched. Everyday is better. I haven't been bored, I've had Netflix, my book, magazines and the Olympics so that kept me occupied. It's one week tomorrow, cannot believe it!

First bikini ever!

So I have never worn a bikini. I was overweight as a teenager so after losing weight I always had the 'bulge'. I'm 48 soon to be 49. I think I look ok, I just hope when the swelling goes down I'm not left with more skin!

1 week post op

Wow can't believe this time a week ago I was just coming out of recovery! It's gone so fast! So dressings off, steri-strips off. The nurse cleaned it and re-placed it with tape which I have to turn do every 3 to 4 days or if it gets wet and comes off. I can now shower! Yay!
I'm very happy with the scar it's looking great as is my belly button!
I feel I can look down now and see the difference! I know it sounds silly but I felt I couldn't before! I think recovery will fly by!

I'm feeling great, only the odd paracetamol now. I wonder if part of my good recovery is diet - I ate well before the op and I've been eating well since - chicken, avocado, fruit, wheat germ, salad and plenty of water.

Day 9 post op

So it's still all going great! I feel like I'm turning into a health freak as I'm putting stuff in that's good for me (well mainly!). Hehe! I can pretty much stand up straight and my back is def feeling better. I have been trying on all my older clothes and the majority fit! So gonna stick with most of the old clothes for the minute before I go on a spending spree! Only bought some leggings to hide my garment and I can pretty much wear any top with them which was a no no before as they had to be longer! Still can't get over how flat it is!!! Happy healing everyone. Xxx

11 days post op

Well I'm feeling so good! I had a bit of a down day yesterday caused by a thoughtless text (nothing to do with op) but I'm over it now. I have had a couple more bikinis delivered and I've picked one I'm going to keep!
Im all dressed and ready to go out with my wonderful hubby to some fields nearby to walk the dog and see how I go. Looking forward to getting out in the sunshine :)

Day 12 post op

Still feeling great, sat in the car at the moment on the way to shops to try on a few things! Don't want to buy a huge amount because I've actually found that a lot of things in my wardrobe I haven't worn for years now look good!
Scar is looking good. My wonderful husband changed the tape today and it's looking great. Funny thing is he felt a bit queasy! (He's a police officer and is used to dealing with all sorts, dead bodies, accidents etc) I think because it's a huge scar he was overwhelmed by it!

Day 15 post op

Just saw my consultant he's very pleased and said its all looking fantastic. I'm a little swollen but that is to be expected. He said I can slowly build up my walking now. So I'm gonna do a little bit more each day. He said I'm also fine to drive now too. The garment to stay in for another month and tape for 10 more weeks. Leave it in for 10 days or so until it falls off. Apparently it stops the collagen from forming so it makes a flatter scar.
I'm not getting any pain apart from the occasional tummy ache.
I'm so pleased it's going so well and long may it continue. So back to work today and then onwards and upwards.
Happy healing everyone. Xx

17 days post op

So feeling great still. A little bit swollen after working for 2 days. Although I managed only 4 hours at my desk job on both days! It's our 26th anniversary today and my youngest son is currently driving us to our restaurant. I have a dress on that I found in my wardrobe that I haven't worn for over a decade! Bring on the cocktails!

Day 23 post op

Well time is going by! Can't believe it's just over 3 weeks since the op! My hubbie changed the tape today (without feeling faint!) and it's all looking good still. I took a couple more pics, not much different to day 12 but it's still looking great.
Feeling a little bit sick all day today, don't think that's to do with the surgery though. It's been a hectic week as it was our 26 anniversary and my 49th birthday and our eldest came back to visit. Going to take it easy for a few days to recover and hopefully the nausea will pass.
