Dr. Kang is Focused on Improving, Not Overhauling

I have extremely asymmetrical eyes. Everyone has an asymmetrical face, but mine is extremely obvious: my right eye (left in pictures) is lower, smaller, and (as Dr. Kang pointed out) shorter in length than my other eye. Paired with having monolids, this gives the impression that my eye is sliding down my face. I knew surgery couldn't fix my eye's placement on my face, but I hoped that by making my eyes bigger I could at least improve the "sliding" look.

When I started searching for surgeons in my area, I kept coming upon Dr. Kang's profile because he had the highest number of pictures for people who had undergone upper eyelid surgery. Although no one showed my particular case of asymmetry, I thought that someone who had performed so many of the same operation would likely have the best chance of creating a successful result in my case.

Here is what I will say about Dr. Kang: he is brutally honest and perceptive. He pinpointed every little detail that was causing my asymmetry - as mentioned, he said my smaller eye was also shorter in length which I didn't even know. He told me he couldn't fix the asymmetry (of course), but that he could do his best to make his work symmetrical. He is also focused on "natural" results, saying he wants to improve what's there, not radically change it. He also upsold me on a lower blepharoplasty, saying my lower eyelids were also "a problem." I didn't think my lower eyelids were that bad given I'm still young, but I agreed to it anyways since I figured I might as well since I'm already undergoing the knife anyways.

In terms of the operation and healing, it went relatively smooth. Upper eyelid I felt no pain 90% of the time due to the local anesthesia - I only felt pain for a small portion of the time when he was opening up my inner eye corners, probably because it's harder to inject anesthesia there. For the lower eyelid I felt no pain at any time, only a strong tugging sensation. Dr. Kang is detailed and a perfectionist, he had me sit up multiple times, telling me about his thoughts for where he needed to do more work and checking the symmetry. It took 3 hours total for both upper and lower blepharoplasty. In terms of recovery it was like healing any other injury - it got worse before it got better and my vision was blurry for the first few days but the swelling went down in about a week.

I'm still not fully healed, it's only been about a week and a half, but I'm healed enough for it to look almost natural. My eyes did heal (and are still healing) a bit unevenly, but I can see that his work is turning out to be nearly symmetrical despite the strong asymmetrical landscape he had to start with. I also had multiple check-ups since the operation, going in every few days for them to assess, clean me up a bit, and then eventually take the stitches out.

The day I got all my stitches out, I expressed interest in other operations to further refine my face. He gave me Radiesse fillers in my cheeks and chin minutes later, which have greatly improved my overall face architecture.

This is one of the longest reviews I've written, but it's also the biggest operation I've ever had, and also the biggest cosmetic investment I've ever made. Was it worth it? I think so. My only regret is not having done it sooner. Such a drastic change made with barely any pain, and recovery within a week. The nurses and staff (Ashley, Lucy, others that I don't know the name) are all super nice, friendly, and attentive, and the office is clean and modern so it really is a nice atmosphere.

Honestly the only con of this entire experience is the wait time. Dr. Kang is a popular, in-demand, busy man, so you will inevitably be waiting for his time. My surgery was scheduled for 9:30 but it actually started at noon, so be prepared to wait. If you want to be pretty, you have to be patient, but for me it was worth it in the end.
