Glad I finally got my eyes done

patient10203
I have been wanting to get my eyelids done for 15 years, since my teens, due to the uneven creases and how heavy and uncomfortable one eye felt when the weak crease would come and go. I’ve always been told that I didn’t need it and my eyes were big enough, but what really bothered me was the heavy and hooded feeling on my left eye that made me feel self conscious.

I have waited a long time to finally go through with it due to stigma of surgery and fear of what could go wrong. As a highly anxious person, I did tons of research and many consultations with doctors on both the east and west coast over years before I finally felt comfortable enough to trust someone to do it right. What initially drew me to Dr Kang was the photos he has on his website, so I booked a consult. I was still too nervous after the consultation to decide, so I waited and kept an eye on his instagram page for more recent before and afters and his reviews from RealSelf and Google. After another year, I decided to go for a second consult but my nerves still held out. Seeing steady new positive reviews and pics and videos on his instagram page, were what finally got me to take a leap another half a year later and I am so glad I did.

The first 2-3 weeks were rough for me, I am a perfectionist and anxious person so I was very sensitive to the healing process but after a month, I started to see better symmetry and was just happy that the hooded, heavy feeling was gone. At first I thought the creases were made too high, even though the doc and nurse assured me that he only goes for natural results, they were right, I even kind of wish I went a tiny bit bigger, didn’t realize how wide my eyes naturally were, which made the crease platform smaller.

I am now half a year post op and wish I did this sooner so I could’ve enjoyed it in my 20s and not have this insecurity that plagued me since my teens.

In terms of the scar, it’s not too noticeable from further but I think people who know that I have gotten it done, can tell. I hope it continues to get better as the tissue continues to heal.

Overall I am glad I did this and trusted Dr Kang and his expertise. He really does know what he’s doing and has tons of experience. Thanks to Nurse June and the office team as well for being so pleasant.

Will need revision

I tried to be so patient with the results but it was clear 6 months out that the eyes re asymmetrical, there is ptosis on the right eye which wasn’t there pre surgery and there was a complication during the procedure where too much anesthesia was placed on that eye rendering me unable to open it enough for review mid surgery.

The clinic dismissed the asymmetry but also the holes that were left in both eyes due to the sutures being in way too long, which was not what was expected from consultation. When I tried to bring up my concerns about how the sutures were left in for two weeks, I was shut down. I was correct with my concerns as half the suture holes never closed up, 3, 6, 9+ months out and it was also dismissed during follow ups. I will need to get a revision due to this, and it could’ve been avoid had the clinic been open to concerns and tailored the treatment to each individual patient. Makeup gets stuck in the suture holes on my scar line and you can clearly see the holes. I can stick a needle from one opening of the hole to the other side where the suture hole connects, how do I know? Because that’s what I have to do to get rid of the stuck makeup. This is definitely not what was expected from the doctor who touts his skills.
