Surgery and Recovery
My double eyelid surgery is healing extremely well 1 month later. There is now no visible scarring or big swelling and the results look very natural. My eyes look a lot bigger and brighter and my overall appearance looks less tired. I have started to wear eye makeup again and have had no issues so far. Overall I am super happy with the results that Dr Jeon created for my eyes!
Travel + Eyelid Surgery Experience in Korea
A little bit about me
I have been considering double eyelid surgery for a couple of years and started to research potential clinics when I decided to visit Seoul for a holiday this year (12 days in total). When I was younger, I had defined double eyelids, but over time I have experienced my eyelid crease droop and my eyes become more hooded. This bothered me as it made me look tired and my eyes looked asymmetrical.
I did my research by googling for plastic surgery clinics in Seoul, reading reviews/other people’s experience on PurseForum as well as watching YouTube videos of other people’s double eyelid surgery journeys.
I was wary of ‘factory’ plastic surgery clinics and wanted to find a clinic that was incident-free and offered attentive service at a reasonable cost.
Consultation
I consulted with many of the popular clinics online several months prior to my trip to Seoul (Marble, VG, Dream, FacePlus) but Girin was the only clinic that provided video consultation with a real Doctor. I found comfort in being able to speak to Dr. Jeon to explain what I wanted to achieve for my eyes (via their translator) and could receive their recommendations for the procedure in a face-to-face setting. This made me feel a lot less nervous about undergoing the procedure overseas. I showed Dr. Jeon photos of my desired eyelid design and she recommended non-incisional blepharoplasty with epicanthoplasty to achieve the look I wanted. She explained the procedure in detail, which was translated into perfect English by their translator Jade. Both Dr. Jeon and Jade were warm and friendly but also professional during the consultation which made me feel very comfortable entrusting them with my surgery.
It was largely due to this video consultation that made me feel at ease about the procedure and GIRIN’s competitive pricing that ultimately made me decide to book my surgery with Dr. Jeon.
Surgery Day & Results
I had my surgery booked for the day after I arrived in Seoul. I was around 15 minutes late to the appointment due to transport issues but they were very understanding and waited for my arrival.
Once I arrived, I had another consultation with Dr. Jeon who used a tool to show me different crease heights and designs to help me envision the results of the surgery. Dr. Jeon was patient and genuinely wanted to make sure the exact results I desired were achieved. Once I was happy with the eyelid design, Dr. Jeon marked my eyelids and I was promptly led to the operating room. Once there, the nurses administered the anesthesia and Dr. Jeon began the surgery shortly after. I have next to no recollection of the surgery itself and I’m fairly sure I was unconscious for most of the procedure. I woke up in the recovery room almost 3 hours after the surgery and was told I could leave. I was given a gift bag with my medication, ointment for my eyes, and instructions on aftercare.
My eye area felt tight and there was a lot of swelling, but I did not feel much pain. I was feeling very groggy from the after-effects of the anesthesia so I had lunch at a restaurant next to the clinic and went back to the hotel to rest for the remainder of the day. I slept the rest of the afternoon and woke up around 8 pm, went out for a light dinner and went back to bed. The next day I felt a lot better as all of the anesthesia had worn off and I still did not feel much pain so I was able to spend the whole day exploring Myeongdong (with sunglasses on).
Aside from swelling and a very minor amount of bruising under my eyes, I had no other side effects from the surgery. I didn’t feel much pain at all and was able to travel around Seoul/Busan wearing my sunglasses for the next few days with no problems.
I went back to Girin clinic on the 5th day after surgery to have my stitches removed. The stitch removal process was a bit painful but it was completed pretty quickly. The whole appointment took less than half an hour.
It’s now more than 2 weeks after I had my initial surgery and I love the way my eyes look. The swelling has come down significantly and there is very minimal scarring (thanks to the skill of Dr. Jeon), which I believe will fade in the next couple of months.
I would highly recommend Dr. Jeon and Girin clinic for eyelid surgery.
