Very Natural Looking Results for a Difficult Procedure

Over a year ago, I started to get serious about my search for a provider who was willing to do Asian epicanthoplasty in conjunction with double eyelid surgery and possibly ptosis surgery. I specifically sought out an Asian provider, as I did not like the results from many of the Caucasian doctors I searched online. They tended to exaggerate the eyes, giving them a deeper looking socket that looked out of place on an east Asian face. My eyes were also extremely small and had fatty eyelids, which posed a problem even for Asian surgeons, so I really wanted a doctor who could not only relate to my experience, but also had similar aesthetics when it came to facial harmony.

Although I initially consulted with Dr. Kang over a year ago, I did not schedule a surgery with him right away because he was extremely frank and terribly pessimistic about the difficulties of the procedures I wanted. It was discouraging, so I didn't proceed for a while.

Fast forward to a year later and my sister was shopping around for surgeons who performed double eyelid surgery. I suggested Dr. Kang, whose honesty I appreciated even if I hadn't gone ahead with the procedures I wanted. He was also very conveniently located, so she decided to bite the bullet. Her surgery was incredibly quick and her results were amazing. The aftercare was spectacular too.

I consulted with Dr. Kang again after seeing my sister's results. Her eyes came out so well partiallybecause her case was much easier than mine (no epicanthoplasty or ptosis). Dr. Kang was once again pessimistic about my results, but I greenlit the procedures anyway, thinking that my eyes could not possibly turn out any more unattractive than they were naturally. At worst, I would just look like as I did now, but with a fold. At best, (I hoped) I would look like a semi-demi-kind of-Kpop idol. I knew Dr. Kang tended to be conservative in operating, so I wasn't worried about having naked, angry looking caruncles like I'd seen in another surgeon's epicanthoplasty results, or having exposed eye whites because of overtuned eye levator muscles. The epicanthoplasty scars he warned me about didn't bother me, since I wear glasses often and could cover blemishes easily with makeup.

Scars didn't turn out to be a concern anyway.

I was initially miffed about the surgery price, but felt it was highly worth it afterwards. The surgery itself lasted around six hours and was intensive. It began at around 11:30 and (I think) Dr. Kang did not eat lunch until 3pm, when we took a small break. I was not in any real pain immediately afterwards, although my eyelids were extremely swollen and I could barely shut my eyes.

Since then, I came to the office every week and then eventually once a month for check ups. I am three months post-surgery and my eyes are incredibly natural looking, as well as a major improvement on my previous peepers. They are not actress saucer-sized doe eyes, but they still look fantastic. The epicanthoplasty was subtler than I preferred, but I was told that a more drastic procedure would've created greater scarring, which I understand.

My eyes already started looking natural at around the one month mark. Right now as I type, it's almost as if I never had any surgery at all other than feeling a slight pressure when I raise my eyebrows. I have not had any issues so far regarding discomfort or scarring and am extremely satisfied with my experience. During the week after surgery, Dr. Kang's office frequently texted me asking after my condition and provided me with ice packs and ointment. The care was incredibly responsive and attentive.

I also appreciated that he had multiple offices, two of them near major Asian enclaves, so it was incredibly easy for me to just stroll in post-surgery without a care and with my eyelids swollen to the size of eggplants. I'm happy to no longer have to use double eyelid glue and buckets of eyeliner and eyeshadow to achieve the eye shape I want.

The only negative is that he is a bit pushy with reviews. I feel like it shouldn't be necessary since his office already provides such a great experience. If you're really happy with something, don't you want to shout about it from the rooftops? I have written a lengthy review because I am both very enthusiastic about my results and because they suggested that I do so. I am not receiving anything in return for my review, other than for them to stop nagging me about it. This review is NOT sponsored. I have not gotten plastic surgery before, so this is my only plastic surgery review so far.

Overall, I enthusiastically recommend getting Asian eye procedures with Dr. Kang. He is incredibly honest about results, even if they may not be optimal, and he is a perfectionist both in the operating room and in after care. His office is attentive, responsive, friendly, and multi-lingual. There are very few surgeons in NYC who provide epicanthoplasty, and even fewer who are adept at it, so he is a great choice for the procedure. If you live near the Asian enclave area of Flushing, it is highly worth it and convenient to pay him a visit.
