Highly Recommend Dr. Suh and Marble for DES
It’s been 2.5 months since I had non incisional double eyelid surgery at Marble Plastic Surgery in Seoul and I wanted to write my detailed thoughts as I relied very heavily on others' reviews during my process.
I found out about Marble through a YouTuber Hana Lee who had a really natural result so I did a consultation. My surgeon Dr. Suh is the main eyelid surgeon and I felt really comfortable with him; he had a really calm, kind manner and patiently answered all of my questions without a hint of ego. I explained to him that I wanted a really natural result, and I wanted to raise the crease of my eyelids very slightly; he understood well and provided me a couple of different options. I also had a bit of mild ptosis, especially on my left eye and asked if I could do ptosis correction on both eyes - another clinic (Wink) had told me that ptosis correction was only recommended with the incisional method, but Dr. Suh said I could have the non-incisional method for ptosis correction and DES, which is why I picked him.
The consultant reassured me also while I was clearly having trouble deciding that Dr. Suh was the best eyelid surgeon out there - while I know it’s obviously biased I felt better hearing that especially when she said it on her own volition. I was also afraid of booking the surgery the next day as the only slot available was the last surgery of the day and I didn’t want him to be tired during my procedure (LOL). She told me he’s very professional and detail oriented and wouldn’t even leave the room before ensuring the result is something he’s happy with. I’ve now been to multiple consultations for various procedures, and I do think it’s a positive sign when the staff are clearly confident in the surgeon’s abilities since they are not obligated to offer their personal opinions.
I came back for surgery the next day - it was quick, though the sleeping anesthesia made me very loopy and see weird colors and shapes during the procedure. I found it pretty anxiety inducing so just a heads up as I wasn't really prepared for it. The surgery itself didn't hurt, but I could feel tugging on my eyelids especially towards the end. Dr. Suh asked me to open and close my eyes repeatedly to check them and I could tell he really did his best to make them perfect. Afterwards, I heard people describe the recovery as a walk in the park and while it wasn't too bad, it definitely wasn't pain-free. Especially right after the procedure I had a lot of swelling and bruising, that looked more like what people experience from incisional DES. I ended up rushing home to rest because I felt so uncomfortable afterwards. That said, the pain did go away very quickly and I only had to take the pain meds the evening of the surgery - by the next day I didn't need it. The swelling and bruising went way down after 3 weeks, though I still had quite a bit of swelling that caused the left eye to look like it had more ptosis than the right one. At my follow-up with Dr. Suh he said that they would even out as the swelling went down, but I started getting really worried. They reassured me though that if the appearance didn't improve we could discuss re-doing the crease of one eye to make them look more similar, or if I wasn't happy with the degree of ptosis correction I could consider doing the incisional method.
Thankfully, despite all my worries, the eyelids did even out just like Dr. Suh predicted. I'm shocked at how much they improved in the last month - I should have listened to Dr. Suh and not stressed out as much as I did. There's a reason he's so well-known for DES after all. I recently saw some friends for the first time since the surgery and several people who didn't know I did DES commented that my eyes look beautiful and that they're 'shining', or even ask if I'm wearing special contact lenses. When I tell people I had surgery, they all comment on how natural it looks. I think the ptosis correction was well-done as well. I didn't have too much ptosis to start out with, but my eyes look more energetic and brighter, and I can barely tell a difference between the left and right eye now.
I would definitely recommend Marble and Dr. Suh if you're considering DES and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to my closest friends and family members, as I trust him! I also wanted to give a shout out to Min, who is one of the English speaking consultants - she was so kind, patient, and spent extra time reassuring me during the period after the surgery when I was really worried about the outcome. She's really a gem in this industry. And lastly I really saw a lot of improvement in swelling and the appearance of ptosis in Month 2 (and I think it’ll keep de-swelling for a couple months), even though so many people say it only took them about a month to recover. So hopefully this helps reassure some anxious souls like me!
