So I started taking Accutane about a week ago.... so far the worst side effect is the itchy dry face!! Somebody please tell me what moisturizer I can use to give me a cool soothing feeling on my skin... I will post pics as I go along, week by week.:: I'm supposed to take it for 6 months!! The way my face is itching, I'm not sure if I can continue....... wish me well!

Hey! I will follow your updates every day if I can. My favourite moisturiser brand is Cetaphil. It is fragrance free and lasts all day. It is perfect. Remember to apply moisturiser just after you shower or have washed your face ( or whichever part of the body you are applying it to ) so that your skin is a little wet or moist. If you don't the moisturiser will just sit on top of the skin. Also pick up some lip balm ready and always keep it in your pocket.
Best Wishes!

Hi, okay thanks! I have been using Cetaphil for about 2 years now... for some reason it is burning/irritating my skin when I apply it since I started taking Accutane

I have heard people say that about Cetaphil. At first I noticed a light burning sensation when using it, however I noticed I was using way too much and I started to use less and it stopped burning. Cetaphil is really thick and I only put a tiny bit on my finger and rub little bits in at a time. I hope that helps. Like I said, I also felt the burning but if I use less it is fine. If this does not work there are hundreds of other moisturises out there to try and I'm sure one will suit you.

Shea moisture black soap products are AMAZING!! The moisturizer is awesome, along with all the other products, I suffered from acne as well, but since I've been using their products it's like a dream come true.

The only moisturizer that helped me with the extreme dryness was clinique dramatically different lotion (not the gel). Its a yellow pump bottle. World of difference, everything else still left me dry with huge amounts of skin peeling all over.

I had the same problem with the burning when I used cetaphil! And I hated how it felt on my face. I've switched to a Hada labo bubble cleanser (very gentle-found on Amazon) and for daytime moisturizer I use dr jart ceramidin cream, nighttime moisturizer is Benton steam cream (also on Amazon). And aquaphor for my lips!! Forget Vaseline, aquaphor is my saving grace. You could also try a sheet mask meant for moisturizing. Good luck!

Two week update... so far I'm still having the very dry skin side effects and I haven't found the right moisturizer yet... been still using Cetaphil and at night Vaseline because it soothes me. Someone on here told me to keep my face wet when I apply moisturizer and that seems to help!! My skin does seem to be getting a little better already, the dark spots seem to have lightened some... I still use my topical acne meds that were prescribed by my dermatologist. Finecia in the mornings and at night Epiduo, Aczone and Hydroquinone(skin lightening). These are photos from today

I would be really careful about using topical acne meds whilst using Accutane.
However, you are looking great and I can see improvement already!

My dermatologist told me to continue using the topicals! He will let me know when to stop, he says. Thanks

I hope you have a good journey. I have the same skin issues and I'm also African American. I see improvement already

Cera ve has really good products it's a long the same lines as cetaphil except better and by better I mean with less harmful stuff also if you have time to wait for an order.. try ordering a cleanser called Aquanil from Amazon. It's absolutely amazing my derm. Just recommended it to me and I love it
