Dermaplaning

Recently I decided to look into some new facial options as a happy birthday to me kind of thing. Not looking to create a new routine, but interested in trying out dermaplaning to see if it's worth the hype.

I have always had dry skin with eczema being my main problem. My skin rarely suffers acne but I do get scaley spots from time to time. I tend to react to fragrances and stress, so I don't expect any negative reaction to dermaplaning.

The big thing that has made me hesitate is the hair removal aspect. I have a lot of peach fuzz... and I've never attempted to remove it myself. Waxing, shaving, plucking lip and brow areas only! I've always avoided starting to remove any of the peach fuzz because I didn't think I could do a thorough enough job with my not-so-great vision. Honestly, I'm very fair and don't wear a ton of makeup so the fuzz has never been too apparent unless the sun hit me at just the wrong angle.

I bought a discounted voucher for Black Diamond Rejuvenation after reading the reviews and checking out their website. Local small-business, I saw a lot of positive feedback for Botox and thought "alright, let's do this!" I know I'm getting a good deal with the voucher, it's non-invasive, and affordable? All good.

Next step is to make the appointment!

Scheduled my appointment for 11am this morning, and assumed that it would be about 45 minutes to an hour. Arrived 10 minutes early in case there was any paperwork to do. Some places want to hear about allergies, previous conditions or treatments, etc. But no papers to do here, she just talked to me and was ready to explain the procedure in case I was nervous at all. I told her that I'd looked up quite a bit of info and watched videos of dermaplaning before buying my GroupOn to try it out, I was ready to go! And of course, she reassured me that the hair DOES NOT grow back thicker. No beard risk!
More later, time to drive home to moisturize!

So what does it feel like? It's like a scraping feeling, closer to scratching an itch than anything else. No pain at all, just stay still while it's done.

Will your hair grow back thicker? No, vellous hair is not like other body hair. It remains light and thin. My face has been covered in light blonde peach fuzz my entire life and I expect that it will come back exactly the same as it was before removal. Of course I'll try to update this later on to show that result.

How long did it take? Maybe 30 minutes, quicker than I expected. I have a few moles on the side of my face (thanks driver's side window!) that she had to slow down around, but otherwise it was quick strokes of the scalpel. Don't think of it as a surgery scalpel, those are much much sharper.

So I've got sensitive, dry skin + eczema; how is it reacting? Immediately after the facial, I felt very smooth and soft. Yay! I let her know that I have reactions to fragrance and chemicals so we opted for no products after the dermaplaning was done. I planned to go home and moisturize with my (Vanicream Lite) lotion to play it safe. But I ran a bunch of errands first instead. Probably should've brought a hat or worn sunscreen but didn't. Bad move on my part. Sun damage risk ahoy!

It's been almost 12 hours since the treatment and I took photos right after showering. Any redness should resolve by tomorrow I think. I feel no burning or itching, no raised irritated patches thank goodness.

I chose this procedure for the serious exfoliation and defuzzing, not for discoloration but I can see that it could be worth it to get rid of acne scars if you went in regularly.
