Affordable Dentures Prior to Implants
For several years I have been researching and planning for dental implants. Before having implants I wanted to allow my periodontal disease to heal and begin the process free from infections and any complications from having my 21 remaining teeth removed. I chose affordable dentures in Independence MO. The cost of tooth removal was $75 per tooth and the dentures were also inexpensive compared to other locations. I did choose to have the care plan which would provide me immediate "economy" dentures and 12 months later permanent as that’s how long the dentists believe that the resorption process would likely take. The total cost was about 3500 for the removal of teeth, starter dentures and all adjustments and liners needed. Insurance maxed out at 2k and I paid the difference. (Note I will likely never see my permanent dentures because I should have my implant procedure in a few weeks but I opted for the insurance of having the permanents should something unforeseen prevent me from getting my implants on time. I had a mold of my upper and lower jaw taken prior to having my teeth removed. Then the same day my teeth were pulled. I really feel that dentists should NOT take the molds prior to removing teeth as I don’t think you get an accurate mold of the jaw. My experience was that the lower jaw dentures were sized too small and as a result wore the skin down to the bone in the back inside of my jaw on both sides. The dentist said that these were tori (abnormal bone growth) and they could be removed. I did have tori bit this was NOT the place they were located. After 8 weekly visits and grinding the bottom denture to almost nothing (their method of refitting). I returned again stating that they still didn’t fit and that even with paste I had no power in my bite. I couldn’t even eat small pieces of soft cut up chicken. I stated also that the bottom denture was not centered to the top when in my mouth. This was the magic word I believe as they then created a new set of dentures. These had a more natural appearance, had a proper bottom size and the bite was right on. The back was still a bit too tight on my back jaw and they removed some material so it did not rub against the exposed bone (now healing). If I were just getting dentures I don’t know if I would go through this experience again. I can’t speak to other places but they have provided what they promised though you need to self-advocate. I will create another review when I get my implants in that covers the entire experience. But for now if you are thinking about dentures they are fair but you need to be sure that they fit and don’t feel like you are being a pest if you are unhappy and need them fixed. I might also mention that the staff was very helpful and kind. No-one at any time treated me as if I was a bother.
