Lip lift

7 years later, full regrets

$2,750
It’s been several years since my surgery and my life has changed so much, I’ve accepted the good and bad but realizing how my social life fundamentally changed after my lip lift. I stopped dating and stop socializing, I refused to let anyone into my life because of the shame of how I looked. When people talk to me I try to smile to try to hide my scars but I always notice their eyes tracing my face and eventually realizing that something is wrong. My scars are permanent and noticeable. The scars never healed beautiful as I thought they would. I rushed into a surgery based on just a few reviews here and one being from another black woman who healed better. I regret everything about this surgery. The side of my nose is full disfigured and the scar under my nose large. My faced changed and not for the better, I realized how beautiful my face was and that no one except me cares about a little extra skin, my lip shaped changed. I absolutely hate looking at myself in the mirror.

Stitches, ugh :(

So, apparently, my body doesn't like stickers being placed on the right corner of my nose. Two of the three blue stitches have since come out. Dr. M did warn me before I left FL, that I shouldn't be surprised if they "spit".
I texted Dr. Mascaro yesterday to update him about things, and he was reassuring, kind, caring and prescribed me 7-days of antibiotics. He said that they're multiple anchor sutures in place, so nothing is going to suddenly open up. He said it's not uncommon for things like this to happen around the corners of the nose, especially if there is a nice crease there.
Right now I just have to wait and allow things to heal naturally and then figure out what to do in a month with I see him again for my steroid injection.
I'm a bit bummed out that I didn't have the flawless healing, like I had hoped, but I'm thankful that Dr. M is my surgeon. His attitude has remained exactly the same since our first consult. When I texted him yesterday, he responded back within 15 mins and then proceeded to answer all my concerns. THAT is the sort of doctor you want. Reachable. The kind who will be there if and when complications arise. No voicemails, or waiting all day for a response. He made it very clear that he cares about the scar. He really does want you to have the best possible results, so I know that we'll figure it things out should this setback cause additional scarring. Worst-case scenario, I have a second lip lift, but I highly doubt we'll even get to that point.

Mine spit stitches as well— it’s just how many people’s bodies react! Won’t affect the outcome, the scar just takes longer to heal where it spits :)
Thank you so much! That makes me feel a lot better. I kept worrying about having another awful scar on my face.
Very nice
I understand your concern about the stitches opening, but this seems to happen with several lip lifts. Aside from that, WOW! This lip lift was blown out of the park!!! You are a Lip model now. Those lips........ Dr. M did his magic and then some!!! It changed your entire lower portion of your face. You are beautiful, but now you’re drop dead gorgeous. I had a Lip Lift last year with my ps in Chicago. I’m in Lip Lift heaven. What a feminine balance it’s given me. Ahhhhh. Lol. Keep us all posted. Love seeing your progress. You can look me up on my profile.
Hey, hope healing has been going well for you! Would love to hear how your lip lift has settled thus far.
Thank you! I didn't have great results. Scaring looks horrible and the area where I had the issue with stitches didn't heal well either. I have no choice but to do a revision. I will post a full update in the coming days.
Omg, I hate to hear that. Is the scarring at least contained to the thin line you initially had, or has it stretched? What has Dr. M said if anything?
How’s your split stitches healing?
Hi Ransr, sorry for such a late reply, but that area didn't heal well at all. At this point, I'm very disappointed with my results. I regret doing this procedure to myself. The scars are not worth it.
So sorry to hear about your scar and it’s visibility. Are you considering a revision? You probably have to wait awhile before you can redo anything. Are you going to post pix? Hugs and love Randi xoxo
How are you doing with the scar and the healing process? I hope you are seeing an improvement by now. Please try to be patient, it really takes months before it truly looks “normal “! Healing vibes to you, my Realself friend.
I see I am not the only unhappy Dr. M patient and mine has nothing to do with scars.....everyone has their 15 minutes of fame.
May I ask you why you're not a happy Dr. M follower??

Stitches out + close up of incision. Small setback? :(

So, Sunday morning I noticed a little white fluid build-up on both the corners of my nose. The right side of my nose had a little bit more than the left. I grabbed my makeup mirror and realized that the hair-strand-like clear sutures were loose and the area was slightly exposed. I started to worry, but I got in contact with Dr. M and I sent him over some photos, and he said it wasn't bad enough that he would need to see me any sooner. He told me to keep my ointment on it, and don't add any stress to the area.
I flew down Monday night and went for my visit Tuesday morning. Dr. M removed the sutures, and we discussed what to do about the corner of my nose. He gave me a couple options. 1) Place some dissolvable sutures, but the chance for scarring is higher. 2) Leave the area alone and allow my body to heal naturally... a small chance for scarring, or place 2-3 little stitches and have them removed locally. This would give me the best chance of having no scar. I decided to have him place some new stitches -- He placed 3 in total.
To be honest, I have no clue what happened over the weekend. I was literally eating soup with a fork because they prohibit you from using spoons for a few days after the procedure. Even when I laughed with someone, I would fake laugh with a frozen mouth, because I knew I couldn't make any real expressions. I also didn't use a toothbrush, as they also warn you against that too.
I was careful, but apparently not careful enough. Maybe the traveling back home just put too much stress on the area. POP, they went, lol. I do remember when I was on the OR table, Dr. M said that my skin was "very thick". He said this twice, so maybe I just needed a little more reinforcement. Perhaps 2-3 extra sutures would have kept things together. Who knows!
Anyway, I still very pleased with my results and I'm not worried about the small setback. I'm going to have surgery on my nose and my nostrils at the end of the year, so even if a little scar creeps up, it's going to be cut out later when my nose is corrected.

Congratulations on your surgery! Your results look great and will continue to get better as you heal. I am so happy for you. You took really good pictures too. Thank you for sharing. Hope you continue to update. BLESSINGS
Thank you so much for the kind words, Ville. :)
Love Love you’re results! I’m planning on having mine next year so saving up, and I’m traveling from the UK..In earlier posts you mentioned braces, do you still have your braces on? Or did you wait till they were taken off to do your lip lift? If so how long did you wait dyer your braces were taken off to have a lip lift?
Awesome! Good luck with your surgery. I was actually told that Dr. Mascaro has had patients from all over the world come to see him. One patient even flew from Greece.

Yes, Dr. Mascaro said I had to wait until my braces were off before having the surgery, and I had to wait an additional 3-4 weeks after that to allow things to settle down.
Your lips look amazing !!! The scars will go by time and you are the only one who sees them :)
