I chose Dr. Paul Chasan to perform my rhinoplasty after two years of considering the procedure. Rhinoplasty is the most challenging cosmetic surgical procedure because it involves shaving and cutting bones as well as moving and sculpting cartilage. Millimeters will make a difference so I knew I had to find a specialist when I was shopping.
I chose to consult with three surgeons total in San Diego. When I'm considering a doctor, it's most important to make sure they are board certified and to read and watch as many resources as they have available. When I Googled "Best rhinoplasty plastic surgeon in San Diego", my first thought when Dr. Chasan popped up was wow he's insanely attractive!!! And we all know ya girl loves a silver fox HAHA!!! However, that was not the deciding factor. I knew I had to set up a consultation with Dr. Chasan after I watched YouTube videos on how he performs and talks about the rhinoplasty procedure. The Wellness Hour video on YouTube is really what made my decision. He communicated how much he enjoys changing noses and why. He also talks about how many he performs a week and how long he's been practicing all together and that's very important in deciding your doctor. Dr. Chasan fixes botched noses all the time and I knew if I scheduled surgery with him, I would not need a revision.
Racheal is the patient coordinator and she is so gorgeous and helpful in scheduling, communicating efficiently, and just encouraging you during your journey. She was the first person I was in contact with. She really impressed me when I was in the process of booking my surgery and when she went on maternity leave, she filled in the girl filling in for her my entire situation so I did not have to explain to her the financial situation I was in before scheduling for surgery. She was AMAZING at answering all of my emails! I have emails from her at 11 pm at night responding to me and she reassured me every single time that Dr. Chasan was going to do a fantastic job on me. If you haven't had plastic surgery before, the journey can be an emotional rollercoaster and she was always there for me.
The consultation went well and I went to two because I showed up to the first one alone and the second one with my husband so Dr. Chasan could answer any remaining questions I had and any concerns my husband had. Dr. Chasan does not offer computer imaging of your outcome and that made me a little nervous especially because the other two doctors I saw did and the other two doctors did not change the tip of my nose which was one of my two concerns. Dr. Chasan, however, showed me photos of noses that looked similar to mine as well as their outcomes and that gave me a better idea of what he was going to do to mine. He was kind and confident when we spoke with him and what I appreciate the most is that he did not rush us during the consultation whatsoever. There's nothing that turns me off more than a dick head doctor that acts like he doesn't care about his patients and their concerns.
I had a pre op appointment two weeks before my surgery date and this is when they gave me my prescription forms, took my before photos, and tell me all of the fun things that I can't do prior to surgery, like binge drink. The nurse, Wilma, was so helpful and made the entire pre op appointment a fun experience. She answered all of my questions, made me feel comfortable in disclosing personal information, and reassured me that I would have a beautiful outcome.
I was actually pretty calm the day of surgery, but there was some anxiety about going under anesthesia. It turned out that this was the easiest and best experience I've ever had with anesthesia. I remember demanding the anesthesiologist to give me the benzos and once he did remembered nothing. I did not remember falling asleep at all. I was traumatized from my last experience because I remember feeling the warm rush right before you take your nap and I did not love it. I woke up in the recovery room and I don't remember anything either except telling the nurse that she was the best several times until my husband picked me up.
I was surprised with how painless and how little bruising I had. Dr. Chasan had mentioned that his years of experience has lead him to use techniques to minimize bruising during the recovery. I got my cast off my nose after 5 days and I had to wear tape on my nose for 5 days after that. I'm now two weeks post op and my bruises have been gone, the swelling in my nose continues to go down everyday, and I am able to put on a full face of makeup. I am in love with my nose so much. He did not make it look fake even when I told him to go as fake as he wants. He made it match my face and it's the nose I should have been born with. It's absolutely beautiful and I recommend Dr. Chasan to anyone looking for a nose job. Thank you so much Dr. Chasan to you and your amazing staff!
