I am 25 years old and have a double chin as a result of genetics. I am very slender and have always been self conscious about this stubborn fat under my chin- always though that a defined jaw would better suit my body.

After looking at a few options and aatebding a few consultations, I decided lipo was the best fit.

The procedure itself was easier than expected. I was VERY nervous as I usually am with anything medical. The staff was amazing and made it very easy. I was awake the whole time and once the numbing injections are in you don't really feel anything except pressure.

I was also amazed at how fast it was- I was there around an hour or so. After returning home I was obviously out of it and resting but for the most part ok.

The next day was the hardest- I was very sore and did not do much. Even with the pain meds I found it to be very uncomfortable.

It is now day 4 post op and I am still really swollen in my face. You have to wear the compression garment around your face all the time during recovery, which is SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE. My neck is very stiff from wearing it and sleeping is very difficult because you have to sleep upright and on your back.

The procedure itself is so much easier than the recovery. I wish more people would have written that! I do not regret this at all- I can already see result when I take the compression garmet off to shower, I just wish I would have known how uncomfortable this was before I had it done.

Will post more results as I go!

I'm glad everything went well, and I'm sure you'll be fully recovered before you know it. :) Any tips for someone considering the same procedure?

So sorry I did not see this! Honestly the biggest tip I can give is that you need to understand that it may not be the exact result that you're hoping for. Also it takes a LONG TIME for the final result. Don't get impatient in the first few months of healing because it changes shape really frequently. It's also not as minor as they make it seem, for me at least, I was out for 2 weeks because of the swelling and general feeling of exhaustion. I always get that way after anesthia though.

When you go to sleep how do they recommend that you sleep?
May 23, 2017
You must sleep upright for about two weeks or longer if you can stand it! You also have to sleep on your back to prevent asymmetrical swelling. This reduces swelling. I just propped myself up with pillows. It's not too bad because you're super tired afterwards!

I would be worried that I couldn't sleep sitting up right. Can you sleep on your back instead?
May 23, 2017
No, you need to be upright. It's really not terrible. Lazy boy recliners or just propping yourself up with pillows does the trick. You don't need to be sitting up straight, but at a good upward angle. You will not heal properly if you don't keep it elevated.

It's almost like when you sprang an ankle or break something, you needn't to keep that elevated so the blood and fluid doesn't pool up in the area.

Sleeping is gonna be super uncomfortable regardless, at least it was for me.
The compression band is super annoying and you need to keep that on as well. Hope this helps!

Always ensure to ask your doctor and do medical research as well. Depending on how much fat you take out or other stuff done you may only have to sleep elevated for a few days.

*need to, not needn't

Thanks for your replies. This makes me wonder if I could handle it haha debating this or the injections they came out with. I'm just starting my research with this and stomach/flat liposuction.

Week three post op

I am still wearing the compression band at night, even though on day 5 my surgeon told me I could stop. I'm still pretty swollen around my cheeks and numb and sore. The skin beneath my neck seems to have swollen up more than it was. The first week or two it looked great outside of the wrap and now it seems to have gone back to the way it was before surgery. I'm hoping that this is just part of the process at this point.

I think it looks good.
Do you have any before photos?
November 27, 2016
Thank you, undortunatly I don't. I am pretty sure I can chalk it up to swelling but I will be happy when I know for sure! The day 3 post op photo is what I am wanting to look like.

I was very clever with taking photos before I had the procedure done!

I am in my 3rd week. My chin is lumpy and still swollen. I hope it's swelling and not fat. Has your lumpiness subsided?
May 8, 2017
Lwn2015, how are you doing now? I am almost 4 weeks post op and I am very lumpy. Did your lumps ever smooth out? I have been trying to massage my lumps atleast twice a day with bio oil.
May 8, 2017
Hi there! I'm not sure why I missed this but yes, lumps subsided a couple of months out!
May 8, 2017
How are you doing now? I am currently almost 4 weeks post op and I'm very lumpy. Its an improvement but I'm hoping it gets even better. Were you told to massage your lumps a couple times a day?
May 8, 2017
Hi there! I'm doing well. The results were not what I expected. I wanted a very clear definition and to get that I should have had a mini face lift with the look I received. I wish they had been more clear on what to expect. It does look so much better! Just not as "perfect" as I would have liked.

I will say that there are still days when I wake up and it is tighter and days where it looks more swollen still. Lipo will take a long time to settle and heal fully.

I was not told to massage my lumps. They went away on their own! I also still have numbness under my shin that's slowly improving.

Thanks for replying! I, too, hoped for a very defined jawline. After having this done, I now know that goal won't be achieved. I figured chin lipo would be enough to achieve this. I'm atleast happy i have some improvement and chin lipo has definitely made me less self conscious. Now i'm patiently waiting for the lumps to go away and to hopefully tighten a little more! I also have a little numbness still. Thanks for posting your recovery!
May 8, 2017
Of course! No matter what the doctor tells you every body is different and lipo definitely takes a long time to heal!

The lumps will go away! Just remember to stay away from salt and I found that staying active helps!

I'm sure yours looks great! It may improve over time as well, keep that in mind! Please feel free to ask any questions. I always try to respond!

How long did you wear the compression band?

Not as defined as I wanted. I still have some numbness and there are days when it looks better and days when it looks more bloated. All in all I truly believe that it is still healing. Will post updates as I go!
