Worth it & more! Age 56, deep plane lift with platysmaplasty

Worth It and More!

WORTH IT$15,800
After a successful Mommy Makeover in my mid-40s, time started taking a toll on my face. When I started researching procedures and providers, Dr. Harley's practice popped up in a Google search, and I was struck by the transformational before and after photos of patients on his website. I made an appointment for a consult, with the next available more than one year later. This gave me time to think hard about the risks of having a knife sliced into my face for the sake of a more youthful appearance. In the meantime, the price for the procedure had increased quite a bit, but my mind was made up, and when I caught an accidental selfie at work of my face at age 56, just one week before the procedure (deep plane lift with platysmaplasty), I knew I was making the right decision. We live 2 hours away from the practice, so my husband and I stayed at a nearby hotel on the night before and the night of the procedure. All went as planned, and we were on our way home by noon the day after the procedure, after Dr. Harley removed my surgical dressing and drain. Pain, bruising, and swelling have been minimal, so it seems the recommended dietary additions of pineapple and blueberries one week prior to the procedure really make a difference. Just two days after the procedure, I was working remotely from home. I do have some numbness around my mouth and ears, so smiling and talking are awkward now, although this gets better every day. Also, I exercise regularly and vigorously, so the hardest part for me is having to put that off for a while, but it's well worth the wait. I expect this investment to last a long time!

You look great. How long did you wit to see him? I'm waiting for a consultation. Probably in 2023.

Thanks! I requested a consult in May 2021, and the next available appointment was May 2022. I had plenty of time to think about this big decision and was ready for it, mentally and physically. At one week post op, I have no regrets! I'll post updated photos in another week or two.

I just got back 2 days ago from seeing Dr Harley. Very pleased with my results so far. We stayed 8 nights at this airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/23589981?source_impression_idp3_1665775669_ZCLBp52ebLbD97vI

Fantastic location. Short distance to Dr Harley's office. Hosts were excellent and place was perfect. And I thought price was very reasonable.

Do you need 8 nights? If i ask a friend how long would she stay with me? How long until you could be in public? Exercise?

We flew into NC the day before surgery. I had surgery the next morning at 7 am and then was scheduled for suture removal one week from surgery and we flew out that same day. So it was 8 days for us. My husband helped me with everything (eg food prep, medicine schedule, icing etc) the first 2 days. After those first two days, I did everything myself. I had my surgery on a Wednesday and on Friday we were out of the airbnb and took a drive to see scenery. Saturday, we walked around Lake Junaluska. Sunday, we went out to eat in a restaurant. The rest of the days in NC, we shopped and went to various places and I had no issues being seen in public. Bruising was/is VERY minimal -- but I did follow their instructions of eating blueberries and pineapple the week before surgery and the week after surgery. And I also took the recommended Arnica Montana tabs which help with bruising. I have 1 noticeable bruise right under my neckline about the size of a thumb print which is covered easily with Dermablend makeup. I don't think "vigorous" exercise is allowed until the 4 week mark. But mild exercise like walking on flat terrain is allowed within the first few days.

Also one word of caution -- Dr Harley's prices continue to climb (as do ALL of the good facelift plastic surgeons). If you have your consultation, do not wait too long to book. It took me a year to build up courage to actually book my surgery after my consultation, and in that time, I ended up paying $3,000+ more for it. The surgery was a piece of cake and in hindsight I shouldn't have been so scared to book.

Could you tell me how much you paid for your surgery. The cost has gone up significantly since I have been following him. I had to wait a year for a consult and I’m afraid it’s now going to be more than I can afford

I paid $15,700. When I found him on Instagram summer of 2020, I think his prices were at $7,000+. Then that fall when I finally made a consult appt, they were $9,000+. I waited 7 or so months for my consult appt to roll around, and by that time, the price was $12,000+. Then around 1 year after my consult, I decided I better book or I was going to get priced out of ever being able to afford it. By then it was $15,700. This is still a very competitive price -- I looked around a bit during the year following my consult and before I booked. It took me a bit to swallow that price increase -- but ALL the good surgeons prices increased dramatically during that timeframe too. I know what you mean about the worry of being able to afford him. I felt like before, he served a niche of regular everyday women who weren't swimming in $$$$. But as time goes by and prices increase, his price will become out of reach for many. Good luck and I wish you the best.

I had my deep plane face/neck lift a few weeks ago $19,700. My consult was a couple weeks before the procedure so maybe that’s why my price was higher. I also decided to get brow lift ($5200) and upper bleph ($4500) before prices went over what I could afford. This is the most $$$ I’ve ever spent on myself so while feeling a little guilty I’ve decided I’ve invested in myself for the years to come :)

So 14 months later he is now $7000 more. It is feeling uncomfortable and also paying for flights transportation place to stay etc

Yes that's about what his price increase tracked. I found another face only plastic surgeon in CA who I was considering. Surprisingly, her prices (in May 2022 when I inquired) were about $16,000+. I don't know if she has increased now -- but I was seriously considering her. Her price included all the ancillary costs such as surgical facility and anesthesia fees. Also a surgeon in Argentina --Dr Andres Freschi -- he seems to do a lot of training etc etc with Australian plastic surgeons on the deep plane facelift. His price as of early summer was $15,000 which also included all ancillary fees too. Flights to Argentina were kind of expensive when I was looking, but places to stay were very, very inexpensive so it kind of balanced out. Also, the surgical facility where he operates looks very pristine and posh looking.

Those are a couple of other options for you to check out and hopefully they haven't increased their prices since I looked into them.

I know what you mean about feeling a little guilty -- same here. That's great you got to do the add-on procedures as well! How is your healing going? Are you happy with the results?

It’s been 2 weeks today. Even with the pineapple, blueberries, arnica and bromelain, I’ve had a lot of swelling and bruising (huge black eye) but I’m an easy bruiser. Had a wonderful caregiver, Penny Sturgis, that Dr. Harley’s office recommended. She was extremely helpful and so appreciative that we had her. Procedures were practically painless. I was able to drive 5 hours home less than 2 days after (although I looked pretty scary lol) . Very happy with deep plane results I do have one brow that is drooping but waiting to see what happens in next week with swelling going down before reaching out to the office.
My only advice to anyone thinking about doing the procedure(s) is to prepare yourself that the few weeks after are mentally challenging (stitches, scabs, sleeping upright, numbness, the strange to the touch skin and limited social interactions). Just now starting to feel like I did something for myself vs something to myself. Looking back I would’ve done the procedures separately, it’s been a lot to deal with.
How’s your healing going?

Thank you for the information!! I will check your place out. Would you mind telling me what procedure(s) you had?

Also—how far was the Airbnb from Dr Harley? My husband doesn’t drive so I will need to make arrangements so trying to stay nearby. Thank for your info!!

Google maps shows that Airbnb at 3.6 miles away from Dr Harley’s office. I had a deep plane facelift/neck lift. I wanted a lower bleph too but my budget would not allow. Maybe someday. Haha

You have been so helpful! Thank you so very much! I hope you decide to post pictures too.
