WORTH IT
I am nine days post-op from a deep plane face and neck lift surgery with fat transfer performed by Dr. Arturo Valdez. I am extremely pleased with the results, and I look completely NATURAL. When I see my reflection, I see a younger version of myself.
After consulting with plastic surgeons from three different countries, I chose Dr. Valdez because of his approach and thorough explanation of the surgery. While other surgeons discussed information I was already familiar with due to extensive research, Dr. Valdez provided me with new knowledge. I also consulted with my husband, who is an RN; he noted that Dr. Valdez had the most comprehensive pre-op evaluation. My husband commented, "It seems like he is careful and practices good medicine." That was true.
During our pre-surgery consultation, Dr. Valdez reviewed pictures of me in my 20s to ensure he understood my goals. He was candid and realistic about what could be achieved.
I have undergone several surgeries over my 59 years of age, all medically necessary, and have been informed multiple times that I bleed profusely. After my first C-section, I lost so much blood that a blood transfusion was recommended. Dr. Valdez was the FIRST physician who sat down with me and explained the coagulation cascade, types of blood clotting factors, and where issues could arise. His pre-op blood work includes evaluating some, but not all, clotting factors, which is the standard of care. He recommended a follow-up with a hematologist, which I will do upon my return to the US.
I arrived in Cancun two days before my surgery. The day before surgery, I had blood work and a comprehensive examination, including an EKG, with a cardiologist. Although my surgery took longer than expected due to bleeding, my recovery went much more smoothly than anticipated. I stayed overnight at Amerimed Hospital with a private nurse from Dr. Valdez's team. I was thoroughly pampered. The hospital was small and simple, but the room was clean, and the care was excellent. To my surprise, the food was not bad.
After my surgery, Dr. Valdez and the anesthesiologist visited me at the hospital at night, and the following morning, Dr. Valdez came by again. So far, I have had five post-op follow-up visits with Dr. Valdez. I have one more this week before I head back home.
I had two drains, which were uncomfortable, but they were removed on the second day. The most challenging part was sleeping on my back, as I usually sleep on my side. It took me a few days to adjust.
I had minimal pain (mostly a headache) and took Celecoxib (an NSAID) for a few days as prescribed. The tightness in my neck and numbness were expected, so I wasn't worried. The tightness feels as if my neck is wrapped with Saran wrap, and the most numbness is in my ears and outer cheek area, which feel leathery. It feels weird and unnatural; however, every day, it gets a little better. Patience is key.
I diligently followed Dr. Valdez's recommendations and had minimal bruising and mild swelling. By day 7, there were minimal signs of the surgery, except for the scars, which are concealed by my hair and another one under my chin. Part of my incision is along the edge of the tragus, so it is not visible.
The first few days, I stayed at a Recovery House (a living room, one bedroom, one bathroom apartment with a full kitchen). The owner, Valeria, is extremely helpful. She did my grocery shopping and checked on me while I recovered. Laundry washing is also included. You can hire her assistant Gabi to cook your meals for an extra fee, which I highly recommend. After three days, I was well enough to move to an apartment two blocks from the doctor's office.
Dr. Valdez's quote includes services provided by My Medical Vacations, including pick-up and drop-off to and from the airport, hospital, and medical appointments. The services include nursing care by two sweet and immensely helpful nurses (Marlen and Ana) who check on you and are available as needed. They are in constant communication with Dr. Valdez and his assistant, Jeni. This exceptional support was particularly beneficial as I traveled alone.
Dr. Valdez's expertise, artistry, and emphasis on high-quality medical care are hard to beat. He practices medicine to the highest standards and is an extremely skilled plastic surgeon. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone considering cosmetic surgery. My daughter is scheduling a consultation with him. Additionally, I am planning to return for a brow lift. Being in Cancun and enjoying the beautiful view of the lagoon and beach made the recovery process even more comfortable.
