Over a Decade Later: Still Living with the Outcome of My Rhinoplasty

It’s taken me over 10 years to write this review as I was so traumatised by my experience with Dr Jason Roth that I couldn’t revisit what happened. I now feel it’s important to share my experience in the hope that it may help others.
In 2014 I had a turbinoplasty and septorhinoplasty with Dr Roth, which included dorsal hump reduction through a closed approach. While my breathing improved, there was no visible change to the hump. When I brought this up, Dr Roth suggested a revision using an open rhinoplasty.
I felt apprehensive but went ahead with surgery in 2015. Before the procedure I was clear that I wanted a conservative result, with the biggest change being a reduction of the bump, which seemed to be understood. I was even reassured by his receptionist at the time that what I was having done was so minimal it could be performed under local anaesthetic.
Despite the reassurance, all the way up to the surgery I had an overwhelming feeling that something wasn’t right, and I wish I had listened to that.
When my cast was removed a week after surgery I was shocked. My nose was drastically different and there was a large indentation on the bridge. When I expressed my concern, Dr Roth dismissed it and said it could be from the cast.
But the indentation didn’t go away and at just 2 weeks post-op, he recommended injecting filler into the area. I now understand this isn’t considered safe practice at that stage of healing, but at the time I was desperate to fix it. The filler was painful and made the indentation worse, and I had to have it dissolved a week later.
On top of that the overall result was very poor. My nose was crooked, with a drooping tip and a noticeable step-off at the columella incision.
I felt so distressed by the experience that I couldn’t work or leave my house for months. When I later went back with my father to explain how much this had impacted my life and ask for a refund, I was met with a lack of empathy. He refused any refund, minimised my concerns, and I was referred elsewhere.
It took me 9 years to feel safe enough to pursue a revision. And while my nose has improved, the indentation on the bridge is still there. This experience has had a lasting impact on my life, and I’m still working through the effects of it.
If you’re considering rhinoplasty with Dr Roth, I strongly encourage you to seek other opinions. If something is beyond a surgeon’s skill set, they should be honest about that. And when things go wrong, patients deserve accountability and support.
To anyone who has had a similar experience, I see you, and you’re not alone.
