POSTED UNDER Voluma Reviews

Don't allow Voluma in your tear troughs or too close to eyes- see my bad results!

I got more Voluma+Vollure- SO MUCH HAPPIER!!

qtzie
$1,500
I have been wrestling with this decision for awhile now, but I finally decided to go to a DIFFERENT injector to receive more Voluma in the CORRECT place: mid-face/cheek area (NOT TOO CLOSE TO THE UNDEREYES!!!!!) I am so SO happy with the improvement!
I went to a certified nurse practitioner who is also an Expert Allergan Trainer and she travels around Dallas training other injectors. She is an expert and she came highly recommended from my friend (who is also a sales rep for Allergan). I felt very comfortable with her. I didn't have expectations to look perfect, I just wanted some type of improvement.
She injected 2 syringes of Voluma in my cheeks and also used a tiny bit of Vollure under my eyes. The difference is incredible. I am beyond grateful! I can't believe I lived like this for over 4 months! Of course today is only Day 1, so we'll see what happens with time, but I am very optimistic!

I should have put in my review, the injector I saw was "Z," the kind nurse practitioner who I've been seeing and speaking with since the end of April.

Looks great! I'm glad you got up the courage to go to a new injector. I must admit, I would be a little scared after your experience. I know I had a terrible experience with sculpture I will never inject it again! But I'm not adverse to getting injections like Juviderm and or Voluma, as long as it's placed correctly! I think you did the right thing by going to the experienced injector. I think that is the key! So glad you are happy now with your outcome!

Thank you Lindy! My situation does seem like it was a case of injector mistake and not something wrong with Voluma. Best wishes to you!

Wanted to update- it's been almost 4 months

qtzie
I wanted to post an update. This journey has been very emotional and mental. MUCH more so than physical. What has helped me was promising myself I would
A) stop taking pictures of my face for awhile. There was no change and I was simply becoming obsessed.
B) stop logging onto Real Self for awhile for the same reasons above
C) stop talking about it as much with my husband and friends for the same reasons above
D) stay calm and patient. Wear my fake glasses if I was feeling insecure. Try to go more often without the fake glasses (and I realized that it is not as noticeable to people as I feared it is).

I feel like the puffiness has gone down slightly more. I go without makeup and don't care any more about the. Raising stains I still have. This is just my new normal now. I am considering trying Voluma again next month by the expert trainer for Allergan-- this time in my mid-face: cheek area, where Voluma is supposed to go. My hope is that it will continue to blend the puffiness under my eyes with the flatness of my cheek area. I'm still not 100% sold on this idea yet though because I am scared obviously.

Overall though, I am in a very good place mentally/emotionally now. I have accepted the change and I acknowledge it is getting slightly better over long periods of time.

I think your face has shown improvement. I also had a bad experience with voluma. Maybe if you must do filler try radiesse or juvederm which are not as permanent! I tried the blending idea and so gave others on the site (injected by all the so called experts) and it really detracted more and didn't seem to help.
Instead of getting more filler I'm just going to wait and get a face lift with maybe some fat transfer.

Should read Have and not gave. Typo.
July 9, 2017
Yes, maybe a less stiff and less long lasting filler is a good idea for blending out, although the Voluma under the eyes would probably out live it, so she might be back to square one quicker.

So glad that you're feeling better about it, and I do think getting the Voluma in the cheeks to blend it out is the right course of action.

Thank God- you fixed it...What is Vollure, AND WHY WAS THAT BETTER?

Update- plastic surgeon refunded my money

qtzie
Wanted to update my review. Last week, I mustered up my courage to call the plastic surgeon's office to ask for a refund. They wanted me to come in person so he could see me (again). I have already gone in twice post-injection for dissolving. We scheduled a time for me to come back in (today). I arrived and was so very nervous, hands were shaking. but I also feel VERY strongly that the doctor made mistakes and at the very least, I am owed a refund. They took more photos of my face and then I waited to speak with the plastic surgeon and a nurse. The hard part for me is, I really liked this doctor and his staff! I really dislike conflict and I did not want to make them feel bad or defensive, but at the same time, I feel a responsibility to educate him about not injecting Voluma into tear troughs, hopefully he doesn't do that to anyone else!! AND I wanted a full refund! He was defensive with me and said he wouldn't have done anything differently in my case, which frustrated me. That was not a shocking reaction from him, but I did share with him that I have seen THREE specialists (my dermatologist, my Med spa injector and an Expert Trainer from Allergan) I have seen them all IN PERSON- not to mention the numerous doctors who responded to me virtually on Real Self-- they confirmed they "would not have put Voluma in these areas on my face" (i.e. Voluma is NOT for tear troughs or for use this close to eyes!) Even the Brilliant Distinctions website alludes to this (I'll see if I can include a screen print in my photos from today). "The safety and effectiveness of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC in areas other than the cheek area... have not been established in clinical studies." The specialists that I have seen in person told me healing my face will take time and money for additional treatments (possibly laser, RF, perhaps more filler, perhaps more dissolving).

The plastic surgery office asked if I would accept a credit for their office instead of a refund and I declined. I want a full refund. They left the room to discuss and the nurse came back with their decision to refund me 100%. Small victory today, but it gives me the tiniest bit of satisfaction! Plus I feel glad that I was able to officially share with this doctor that Voluma should NOT go into tear troughs! He argued with me about that and said "that is exactly what filler is for" but I hope he really understood that is not the case.

So my money is refunded and now I need to determine Phase 2: what to do about my eye area.
• Do I get more dissolving agent injected? I think I still feel some filler left in my left tear trough and I definitely still have filler along my high upper cheek/orbital bones (never wanted filler here either!)
• do I risk getting more filler in the apple of my cheeks to try to mask the puffiness/eye bags?
• do I accept it and leave well enough alone? Just be thankful I can wear glasses and makeup to help hide.

Would love to know Your opinions!

Hi qtzie. I sent you a private message. Hope you have time to read and respond. Have a nice day. Thank you

Hi tx gal,
I don't see a PM from you- will it be in my inbox? can you re-send?
May 18, 2017
I'm so glad you got your refund! I know, I hate confrontation too. But in this case, you very much deserved a refund! I'm glad you didn't take a credit because then you would've felt obligated to use it at some point, and I think you better find a new PS. I'm not sure what I would do in your situation, but I think I would leave well enough alone for the time being. Let things maybe settle down a bit? Then you can decide how to proceed. Thank you for taking the time to update us and I wish you the best of luck in the future!
May 19, 2017
Thank you lindyshellp. I am pretty sure I will never again go to a plastic surgeon for injections. I feel like their specialty is "surgery." I would feel much safer now going to a professional injector (at a medical office) in the future. Super impatient waiting for this to resolve on its own though..... Thank you for reading and responding! :)

Do nothing till it goes down-let everyone know this guy's name-Take him to court- Up the dose of prednisone- it will take the swelling down. It is swelling-it has to come down !
May 19, 2017
Ugh, I hated being on the prednisone, I wonder if I should try that again though.....
May 19, 2017
So sorry this happened to you. I got Belotero injected in my undereye area with a positive result. I guess at this point you need to correct the previous injections before you consider anything new. I am so alarmed by the lack of education of your "professional". I'm not a Dr, but I always read that Voluma should not be injected in the undereye area. I really hope you get the situation resolved to your satisfaction. You should also be getting more that just a refund.

Thank you for reading and and sharing your thoughts, Sara!

Have you tried taking Benadryl? That might help. I had a similar experience only w Radiesse. It was hell. I know what you are going through.
May 20, 2017
Hi bunnytooth, thank you for your suggestion. Yes, I have taken Benadryl and Zyrtec (generic) for weeks with zero improvement. I have also taken arnica (for weeks prior to injection and after), used bruise cream multiple times a day for several days after injection, took prescription steroids and I use Vitamin K cream daily still. None of this helps much. Maybe the vitamin K cream helps a little with the hemosiderin staining. The problem was my injector's lack of knowledge and poor technique. I believe only time will help me now. And perhaps additional cosmetic procedures (such as laser, RF, additional filler injected correctly, etc.) will help camouflage the results.
May 20, 2017
I think I would let it wear off..I know that how you feel but maybe just allowing it to rest. I had the same results when a bad injector used Radiesse in the tear troughs. My eyes were three times as swollen as yours and no way to use something to make it go away. After a year, I had the bags removed. I was told it looked like someone laid sheets of plastic under the skin. Radiesse is only meant for deep areas like the cheeks.
