Immediately Post-op

When I woke up from surgery, I felt fine and relieved to see everyone. I just had to use the bathroom very badly and they kept telling me to wait. Mine was about a 6-hour surgery (was more of a Mommy Makeover), so with that much IV, I REALLY had to urinate & they had removed the catheter before waking me. The only other thing I felt was that my upper arms were very sore. The surgeon told me that was because of the position my arms were in during the surgery (extended out by my sides). My sore arms went away after a day or two.

I have awaken from surgery before feeling very nauseous, so I was worried about that, but I had no nausea at all and felt fine. My abdomen and breasts were all numb and I immediately could walk around. During those first 12 hours, my husband walked with me all around the surgical center's hallways twice and I got up to use the restroom without any problem. The nurses all said I was doing very well and "All of Dr Pollock's patients always do well." No drains, no being hunched over, no sore back, no blood really, no oozing, nothing gross or too uncomfortable.

I remember not feeling like I wanted to eat my dinner that night, just wasn't hungry. They gave me chicken and green beans and it looked delicious. I took a bite of some pumpkin cake and my mouth felt too dry and I didn't feel like swallowing anything, so I didn't eat much. My husband ate everything. But the next morning I ate my breakfast before leaving. The nurses made a couch into a bed for my husband (he's 6 ft 1) to sleep on that night right next to me. They were so sweet. And my husband got me a pack of gummie bears out of the vending machine and those were a huge hit with me!!! I savored every single one of them! LOL

The surgical center gave me a case for my glasses, the most amazing lip balm, a large travel cup with straw full of ice water, and the nurses were all sweet.

Dr Pollock came by the next morning and immediately wanted to show me my new tummy. My husband and I were amazed how flat it looked, how good everything looked. I had some bruising on my breast, a large bruise on the back of one of my legs, and a few bruises here and there as expected.

The only other thing I found a bit hard was breathing. I don't know if it was from the anesthesia or the hydrocodone, but I struggled a little to breathe. This could be because I have asthma and it was the winter time. So, they put me on a little oxygen before I left and gave me one of those breathing measuring things you have to blow into every hour to take home. I felt anxious sometimes trying to sleep at home because I felt I couldn't really breathe with ease. But I was fine and the breathing struggle lasted about a week. I used my inhaler as I needed it.

Day 5 I was scheduled to see the surgeon for a check up. I didn't know they wanted to remove sutures and when they told me, I burst into tears. Dr. Pollock said "That's okay, we'll just do it another time" and let me go home. I just wasn't ready to have anyone touch my sutures and he was very understanding. I went back at 10 days (If I remember correctly) and had the steri-strips and just a few sutures removed with ease by the nurse. Everything was still very numb.

I wore stretchy pants for the first 2 weeks and then could wear anything else I wanted after that as long as it went over the compression garment, which my husband tells me isn't noticeable under clothes at all. I never get tired of my family telling me how flat my tummy is now and how good I look. It was SO worth it!!!

Oh and............... we called Dr Pollock after hours that weekend (my surgery was on a Friday) and he always responded promptly and answered any questions my husband asked him. I started on a laxative 2 days before the surgery and then was taking 1-2 with every pain pill. I also took Milk of Magnesia, walked around everywhere at home, and drank water constantly. Yet, I still got very constipated. I think it's just me and Hydrocodone just do not get along well. I will never take that pain medicine again!!! I ended up at the Urgent Care the next weekend & had to drink something and get an enema. Then I was fine and have been fine ever since.

I am 53 and 1/2 yrs old, 5 ft 4 in, and after...

I am 53 and 1/2 yrs old, 5 ft 4 in, and after birthing (no c-sections) 4 large babies, 2 @ 8+ lbs, 1@ 9 lbs and 1 @ 10.5 lbs and breast feeding 3 of them, I've wanted a TT for so long and finally did it! I had a colon resection surgery 5 years ago that left me with a hernia in my upper right quadrant of my abdomen. I've worked very hard at losing weight, getting off blood pressure meds through diet & exercise and resistance training, but couldn't make any progress at all on my abdomen. Honestly, I felt a little guilty getting this surgery because of the risks for my family of losing me and being in my 50s, but decided to do it for myself anyway. I didn't want to wake up with my (34C) saggy, post-menopausal breasts, so went ahead and had them lifted. I thought I really wanted implants too, but my grown kids told me smaller breasts are chic now and youthful, and I didn't like the health risks of implants and maintaining them. My husband didn't care either way and he likes my small, perky breasts now.

The pre-op blood tests scared me the most because I typically don't have great blood work. But I took vitamins, ate mostly cabbage salads, veggies, fruit, and lean/grass-fed meats only twice a week, took long walks, and did my resistance weight training, and managed to pass all the pre-op tests to qualify for the surgery. Yay!!!! My surgeon said I was at 50/50 risk for blood clots with my bmi and age, etc. so we agreed it was safer for me to have the blood thinner for 10 days, which my hubby gave me and it wasn't so bad.

I chose Dr. Todd Pollock after consulting with 3 prominent surgeons in my area because of his kind/caring demeanor and the professionalism of this office staff. I've had 5 surgeries (my gallbladder removed, Fallopian tube removed, colon surgery, etc) in my life and Dr Pollock is, by far, the sweetest, brilliant doctor I have ever encountered!! His office staff are so nice and put me completely at ease. The overall vibe of Dr Pollock and his office is very positive and not scary at all, which I really appreciated. I also chose him because he pioneered the Drainless TT and progressive suture technique with his father so I felt comfortable he was the expert.

I chose the Texas Institute for Surgery in Dallas and chose to spend the first night there, which was the right decision. This surgical center was top-notch from beginning to end. Their food was great and they let my husband stay with me that night and treated him really well too!! Dr Pollock's anesthetist was excellent and made sure my blood pressure was carefully watched and I did not experience any pain or nausea at all. I am very sensitive to all medications and almost always have unpleasant side effects, so I thoroughly appreciated her care and expertise. Overall, I don't think my experience could have been much better and I am so pleased with the results thus far at 4 weeks post-op writing my first review.

I've worn a 3-panel velcro compression garment they put on me in the hospital 24/7 and have taken only extra-strength Tylenol since day 3 after my surgery. Will post more about my experience later.

Here are pictures of my before tummy and 2 weeks post-op, still very swollen.

Dr. Pollock and his staff are all excellent, caring/sweet, knowledgeable, professional, and made me the most comfortable throughout my whole experience. He is a brilliant surgeon who took very good care of me; restoring my abdomen after having 4 children, and I can't thank him enough for changing my life in this way. I feel so much better about myself and my body.
