Hello. to all of you. I went for my six day post op where Dr. Perry changed the steri-strips and said I looked great. I am bruised, of course, and still swollen which he said will continue to improve over time to where my breasts will be much softer and smaller. He did remove a lot of my own breast tissue at the time of explant which is partly why the bruising is so evident. I could not be any happier. I just keep looking at my chest and wondering why it took me so long to make this important step for my own health and fitness. I can start to exercise again! I can breathe again. I can wear clothes that aren't made for Aunt Bee on the Andy Griffith Show. I can't wait for my life to begin again. Walking around under huge amounts of weight can get anyone down. I have such a weight off my chest now!
I was asked by one of you what Dr. Perry's views on compression were. At the first post op appointment, he had told me I didn't even have to wear a bra as far as he was concerned while I was healing except to hold on bandages. Once he took out the drains, the bandages were not necessary so I spent this whole week braless! It was super. When I asked him about compression today, he explained that it depends on how much tissue was left after explant. If there was a lot of room, there would probably be more fluid and compression might help with that. He said that that person who retained the fluid probably would have with or without the compression but it's always wise to err on the safe side. I simply had plenty of tissue to fill the holes. It's been amazing to go braless.
Also, I don't know if I mentioned before, but the surgery (almost 3 and 1/2 hours) was done without general anesthesia so no intubating. I was not aware of anything but he used local anesthesia and IV sedation. I swear as far as recovery goes, it made it much nicer. General anesthesia is a headache at best.
I wish you all the best, will answer any private messages, but probably won't post here for months again. Let's see what I look like in the beginning of summer!
Take care, all of you wonderful women!

Cyn,forgot to ask. Did dr.perry say anything about the ruptures?
March 1, 2015
Hi, Tennessee. I did ask him if they were both ruptured which they were but I don't think anything beyond that. My next appt is next Friday. If there is something in particular you'd like me to ask, I certainly will.

Thanks. I was wondering how bad the ruptures were. I have a few lymph nodes in the area that I think have silicone. Hope you are progressing well. Ttys.

Glad all is going so well - I look forward to taking the leap myself!

Hi there! It's so encouraging to hear how well you're doing! I'm 60 with 28yr old implants...still on the fence re explant only vs explant w lift. I have 2 questions...did you have capsular contraction of either implant? Looks like you had plenty of breast tissue with your implants...did you go much smaller with lift? You look wonderful!!
February 23, 2015
Hi, there! Yes, I had bilateral ruptured implants with some heavy duty capsular contraction. You are right - I did (do) have plenty of breast tissue left over. I opted for a lift even though I originally thought explant only because I am so large. I would have looked very strange and it just wouldn't have healed or filled out that much. I do not regret the lift at all. My concerns when he explained he really should do the lift as well were a. money and b. recovery time. The money was, of course, a bit more (6100 rather than the 4500 first quoted to me) but I couldn't face another surgery and it was now or never. Recovery time, according to the doc, would not really be much more and I believe he was right for me, anyway. Good luck on your choice. I will post a week out post-op pics this coming Friday. Thanks for the comments. I wish there was a way to follow those forthcoming who have watched my 'journey'.

Did you have an explant? I am 60 and am going to remove my implants and want to know others' experiences
February 22, 2015
Glad you got your drains removed! For me, it was nice to get rid of them. I felt 10 steps closer to healing and recovery with them out. After mine were out, a lot of the discomfort was gone, as well. I did not have a lift done at the time of my implant removal--I told my surgeon that I have hopes of continuing with some weight loss, and she suggested that I wait. I hope that was the right decision. In case anybody has any suggestion for me....on the right side which had both the implant and capsule break, I have a big dent on the outer side of my breast. Do you think that will improve over time? It's amazing to me how many of "us" there are....so happy to get rid of the implants. This website has been an emotional lifesaver to me through the past couple of weeks. I wish I had found it earlier. Cyn, happy healing....sounds like you are doing great! Good for you!!
February 23, 2015
It's (this website) been profoundly helpful to me as well. It was so informative to read how each person has done from start to the final stages of recovery (a year?). We all heal so differently, even one boob to the other, that it's reassuring to see how other people are healing. I think we are a group of astounding women who are making great and better changes in our lives. I don't know anything to offer about the dent. Anyone else out there? God speed to you too!
February 23, 2015
How are you today? Wishing you well.

So glad you are doing well. Take it slow and easy. Did you get a capsulectomy too? Did he remove them en-bloc?

One day post op...OMG You Guys Have to DO This!

My first thought actually upon really waking up and knowing what had occurred was "I can breathe! I can move my lungs!" I guess you don't know what you've had till it's gone! Holy cow, this is wonderful. I have posted graphic pictures but this is what I want you to realize: Most of the bulkiness is bandages - not boob. Secondly, for 18 hours post op, there is very little drainage. Dr. Perry has said that once I only drain 30 (ccs?) in a 24 hour period, he will remove the drains. I have about 6 in the left breast and about 12 in the right. Not bad! Took my pain meds last night and early early am but am now only going to use Advil if I can get away with it. Being very good about ice packs and my dogs are at my daughters' house (no hurling missles). I am so jazzed I cannot begin to say. Once I remove bandages, I will take more pics! Thanks again all of you wonderful supporters! It was so wonderful to 'burn' my huge horrible wired bras. Will only do wireless in the future. Back to my tv! Bored already!

So glad to read your post today! I've been thinking of you and I have been checking to see if you had written anything after your surgery yesterday! Glad you're doing well! I just stumbled across this site a couple of weeks ago. I am so grateful to read posts from women in similar situations as myself.....I am 55 and had my 33 year old silicone "girls" removed on Monday this week. I am so glad they are gone (I loved your Go Girls! post). The left side was leaking inside the capsule, and the right side implant and capsule were ruptured with gel everywhere, caused by a fall a couple of weeks ago. My surgeon said it was quite a mess inside the right side so I hope everything got cleaned out of there....I have concern about that. Like you talked about, my chubby tummy is now in sight, but that's ok. I'm so happy to have that garbage off my chest and have my Little Real Girls back after all this time. Take it easy and keep us posted on your progress!
February 21, 2015
Yay for us, huh? And yay for all the other women out there who can screw up the courage to do this because it is so very worth it. Last night was the first night in years that I slept on my back with no pain! I used to have to sleep on my sides because the spreading of my breasts while on my back hurt so much. I have no clue (other than the money issue) why I put up with this so long. I bet you feel like I do. Please take care of yourself gently and we'll do this step by step and so very carefully. (I almost tripped over my dogs' steps up to my bed last night. What a mess that would have been!) All good vibes coming and going!

Please do not take Advil! That is on the no-no list of meds as it can cause bleeding complications. Tylenol ONLY! I'm so glad that you feel such a relief already & are doing well! That is so wonderful & I can feel your excitement thru your update. :)
February 21, 2015
Thanks for your suggestion but I can't take Tylenol for unusual reasons. I do understand what you mean about Advil but I've been okayed for it.

Thank you so much for the update! As I said the other day, I am your age and your size and mine are coming out next month! You're looking great so far, you go Girl!

Hi Cyn, So glad you are out the other side. Thank you so much to taking the time to provide the update. When you feel up to it, could you please let us know how you felt straight after the op in terms of pain. Is the angst beforehand worse than the actual event. I actually feel relief for you as I've been following your journey. My explant is on 4 March and I can't sleep for worrying. Juie Maree
