Update on 5/23 - The first two days were painful/sore, but nothing unbearable with the medication provided. I am 4 days post-op and back at work (just a little sore). So far everything is going great.

I had suction assisted tumescent liposuction yesterday 5/19 with general anesthesia. I went in at 11:30am and they gave me a valuim like pill to calm me down. I discussed plans with both the CRNA and the nurse. I then got undressed, had the before pictures taken and went to the surgery room. It is very convenient that the surgery center is attached to the doctor's office. The CRNA put numbing cream on my arm and starting the IV. Next thing I remember is waking up to the nurse (and another nurse that I didn't meet before) putting me in the girdle and my clothes.

Surgery went well and I was fine walking out of the surgery center. There is a back door in the surgery center where my husband was waiting with the car. The local anesthesia from the tumescent liposuction really helped because I didn't start feeling much pain until later in the evening.

Currently (about 23 hours post-op) the pain is pretty intense and is much worse than just a feeling of working out too much (which is how a lot of people describe the pain). I am assuming it will get better since I am not even 24 hours post-op yet. I am taking percocet every 3-4 hours and it helps with the pain, but it is still hard to move around. It feels like a boxer hit me numerous times in the areas that I had done.

I will update on my progess, the results and the pain over the next few days. I intend to return to work on Monday (have a desk job). I also have a 20-month old son that is staying with his grandmother until Sunday. I am a little worried about being able to pick him up or play with him when he gets home. Hopefully the pain is better by Sunday.

Although I know there is swelling and I have the girdle on, I think I am going to be very happy with the results. I already look slimmer (which may be from the girdle).

Dr. L wasn't the most personable surgeon but seemed very professional. The consult was quick, but he did a good job explaining everything and answering my questions. When he came in before the surgery to mark the locations, he seemed very focused (which is what I want the person about to operate on me to be). The staff, including the office manager and Dr. L's nurse, make up for any personality that the doctor might be missing. They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, answer tons of question and just generally make the process easy. One thing that really impressed me is that I spoke with 3 patients in the waiting room- all of which had surgeries with Dr. L (one the day before). One lady had a breast augmentation 13 years prior and was coming to discuss another procedure. She was really happy with her BA and had great things to say about Dr. L. The other lady had previously had BA and lipo and was also happy. She was driving the 3rd lady who had a BA the day before. It was reassuring to hear actual patients talk so openly about their experience and that they highly recommended the doctor. I'll update on the results over the next few weeks as that is probably the most important factor in evaluating a surgeon.
