Granuloma after voluma

I was talked into getting voluma without prior knowledge of complications. My experience is rare and terrifying. Voluma looks great on everyone was the words that came out of her mouth and the rn added it's only for the cheeks. Plus she said i could have it reversed if i didnt like like it. Big lie. They forgot to tell me they couldnt do that if something like what happened to me. wish I would of researched it or had someone to inform me on this.new product but no one spoke up. 1/2 cc in each cheek 4 days later facial edema and extreme pain. For the last 3 weeks I have been on medral dose packs, antibiotics. Doctor kept telling me your going to be fine you'll get through this. If he would of recommended dissolving the product sooner I might have avoided a granuloma. Now I am going to ucla to get it dissolved . My cheeks stick way out and I'm not working i am self conscious and depressed. If my face doesn't go back to normal I'm going to have to do some extreme measures. Anyone who is not sure about this new product research it it's not for everyone. My life has been turned upside down. I don't go out. I stay inside hoping that I will get better. Here's some pics of what I looked like. Beware of fillers and the filler. BASICALLY ANYONE WHO IS A RN CAN GET TWO HOURS OF CONTACT HOURS AND CAN INJECT YOU AND NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. MY FILLER WAS IMPROPERLY PLACED IT IS A BALL OF FILLER ON TOP OF MY CHEEKS.

Didn't provide a resolution for me fast enough and couldn't perform hyleranadaise due to not having it or never had to use it. My experience could of been shortened and less tramatic if he would of acted more quickly. He seemed to care but his knowledge of my situation was vague and could only apply his expertise ( eye doctor). I'm disappointed that I trusted them.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. This is the first time I heard that Voluma could do this to someone's cheeks. But I don't think it's the product but the injector. I'm sure you don't care about a refund as much as getting this fixed. Did you go back to the office about this? I sincerely hope this goes away, and you get better.

I am praying it does. I'm going to have second treatment in week.

Good for you. I bet this will help a lot. Let us know how it turns out.

I had a bad reaction from voluma 7 days after I had it injected. I found out from an allergist that I am allergic to the product. I broke out in severe hives and was on prednisone. I had most of the product dissolved 6 months later. I wish I would have dissolved it earlier. I have to be on Allegra now for my hives, but do not require prednisone anymore. I tried to go off the Allegra in December, and after 3 weeks I had a hives break out, but they were much smaller than they were in the beginning. My face ended up scarring from the hives I got from the voluma. It is slowly getting better, but was told it could take up to 2 years to get back to normal. Just have it dissolved and make sure they don't use too much product to dissolve it. Things should start to get better once it starts leaving the system.

Thanks for the support

I hope you are doing better.

How much did you have injected. I only had 1/2 cc in each cheek and my body did not like it
February 15, 2016
I had 1 syringe in each cheek. It has caused so many problems. I am still healing. The person who dissolved it, did it in 2 different stages and was conservative in the amount he used to dissolve the product. I noticed the volume reduce within a week. Because I was conservative, I still have some left in my face. I did notice that my skin seemed a little stretched on my cheeks after having some of the product dissolved.

I am sure I will thank you

Is this an allergic reaction? Has it gone down at all?
February 26, 2016
I'm not sure if it was an allergic reaction but my body could only tolerate a small amount and I had 1 syringe split . I still have a small amount left on my right cheek with no problems bUT it does seem to make my wrinkle deeper versus the other side.

I'm very happy to see it resolved for you.
February 28, 2016
Thank you for the information I was going to do it but after this I decide not continue with the procedure. Hope you feel much better soon.
March 30, 2016
I'm glad that it helped resolve any insecurity but it's just something that is new and I do believe it's the injector.
March 16, 2018
It’s not the injector it’s whether your body will accept it I’m the 1% of people that it mutilated

I had the same experience like you ... I didnt like how it made my face so chubby and i was persuaded to do it to lift the nasolabia lines.... but unfortunately i look bad especally when you smile,

I understand how depressing it is when you get a bad result. I had someone who wanted me to get this and I said no. She injected belotero in my cheeks, and that made them balloon up. Luckily, I found someone to inject the hyaluronidase so they went back down. It makes you want to hide from everyone and never do anything again!
March 30, 2016
Exactly how I felt. I do feel like my cheeks have lost all volume because of the hyleranadaise.
April 3, 2016
Your after pics look like a huge improvement. I am still struggling with my bad result. I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon tomorrow to hopefully fix it once and for all. I'm thinking about posting a review about this. My plastic surgeon told me that these people make money off of how much they inject. It's just so wrong and it leaves you feeling so depressed. I think I may wait a bit and get an actual face lift. Fillers appear to be very tricky and unreliable. they can migrate to where you dont' want. Even the belotero made me look ridiculous in my cheeks. I'd rather have volume loss than balloons. I learned a big lesson, but at what price? I wonder when I'll look like myself again. I have to think positive, though. Are you feeling better?

How long after you had the hyaluronidase did you see it start to dissolve, and did you have to repeat it? I am thinking of getting mine dissolved. I liked my face better without Voluma. The doc put in more than I wanted and I'm afraid it will stretch the skin over time.
August 31, 2017
Hi. The first time they did the hyaluronidase, it was put into the wrong place, so nothing happened. When they actually injected it correctly, it dissolved immediately. I saw it go right down. The skin looked a little weird for a couple of weeks, then went back to normal. It's all in how it is injected, really. I don't know if it would stretch the skin over time. Just know that you will see some odd looking skin right after the hyaluronidase is injected that you won't like, but it does go away. at least it did for me.
January 5, 2018
Yeah my face is stretched too but the citrate made it worse
March 16, 2018
Yes I’m still wondering how I ever thought I needed anything
March 16, 2018
Wait it out if you can
March 16, 2018
I hope you find peace
I’m still looking for resolution

Sorry to sound unknowledegable but what is hyleranadaise? I have aquamid I am trying to get out of my lips (in the vermilion border) and looking madly for solutions.
March 5, 2016
I have never heard of aquamid, but if it's like most fillers, it can be removed with hyaluronidase. It's an enzyme they inject into the area that removes the filler. It can take two tries, but it does work. Go to a facial plastic surgeon who has done it before. Don't go to a med spa or a nurse for this. So not worth it. I've learned a big lesson here.
March 16, 2018
I had a plastic surgeon try to dissolve it and she couldn’t handle the size of my nodulei ended up in UCLA

Hey did u consider fat grafting?could u find out the cause of the granulomas?was it the voluma or the way it was injected?
March 18, 2018
I am allergic to the protein in the filler with big molecules
I had juvederm in my cheeks a year ago and no reaction
Regular juvederm nothing too deep or near my bone
March 19, 2018
Oh ok. Any way to find out if ur allergic before getting it done?
March 27, 2018
Interesting I had a terrible reaction to Voluma but I also had Juvederm on the lower part of my face and no reaction at all.
March 16, 2018
I think you look beautiful now. I wouldn't change anything! You resemble Heather Locklear in this photo!
March 18, 2018
Aww thank you
I had some microneedling done and facials and a little botox
March 19, 2018
hi honeybee, I am also allergic to the proteins in Voluma. Dr. said that this is more common with the new Allergan cross-linking formulas like in Voluma, Vobella, Vollift, and Vollure.
March 23, 2018
Demand a patch test
March 23, 2018
I'm pretty sure I'm done with fillers forever after this experience but I agree it's a good idea to do a patch test for those who may be concerned with allergic reactions.
March 26, 2018
do you know how long the enzyme stays in your system for ? I had 50 units 2 months ago to get rid of voluma and I swear it’s still working it’s magic on all the spots I don’t want it to :(
March 24, 2018
Did the voluma last the 2 years they say?
March 25, 2018
I believe some of it was left, cause the hylerondaise slolelted my cheeks, if you look at my pics you can see the difference andeven if you don’t dissolve it last 2 years maybe more
March 25, 2018
slowly melted
March 25, 2018
What slowly melted ?? Your real tissue over months ?
March 25, 2018
you look amazing though !!
March 26, 2018
Yes it does last two years
It’s really thick
It looks like glue compared to other fillers and very hard to dissolve
March 26, 2018
Yes
