You might glean some tips from my experience. I've had acne since I was 11. Went through two and a half Accutane treatments and acne always came back. In my 30s, my dermatologist started me on a low, constant dose. I don't remember where I started, but I eventually weaned down to less than one 40mg pill a week and stayed clear! I did that for almost 5 years. Came off because I was afraid of long-term effects and wanted to start a family. Broke out again. I was finally put on Yaz (aka Loryna and Nikki). It's a different hormone blend of Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol, and used for acne. And it works! I've been on all three. I'm afraid to come off, and I'm almost 52 now. When I was 42, I broke up with my long-term boyfriend. I decided it was a good time to come off birth control and do a cleanse and candida diet and see if i could control the acne that way. I hate being on any medication. I broke out worse than I have in my life, and for the first time on my chest and back. I never had acne scars before this. :( I tried to tolerate it and started going to a medi-spa for skin treatments (e.g., VI Peels). Nothing worked. I went back on the pill. I found out afterward that the diet was high in phytoestrogens (i.e., soy, garbanzo beans, flax seed... look it up!). I felt so sabotaged. Acne is just a curse for me and has cost me so much in happiness. I hope you fare better.

You should look into Sebacia. I’ve read some promising reviews on it and just had it done myself. Had 3 treatments over two weeks in an office. My skin so far seems better less breakouts but they say you really start seeing results 3 months out. I didn’t want to take Accutane and this is a great, no medication option.

As much as I wish this story ended on a happy note... It didn’t. My acne is back, and has been for the past 6-10 months. Maybe not *quite* as terrible as before, especially on the body/back/chest, but the texture is almost the same. I’m so frustrated and extremely reluctant to start on any additional medication because of my collegiate athletic career. So frustrated and upset and I feel like I went through so much to be back to square 1.

Have u tried changing ur hair and skin products to no fragrance gycerine soap, fragrance free shampoo and conditioner, fragrance free lotion and no products have mineral oil. same for make up. change laundry soap to free and clear, no softeners. bounce free in dryer. take benedryl at night and get a antibiotic. use rubbing alcohol to cleanse pores, use it twice a day. I was allergic to topical stuff and cause me terrible acne. when I started using the above and killed the bacteria it never comes back unless use something I am sensitive to. I shop on iherb

Hi y’all! Sorry it’s been so long... Just wanted to give an update on my skin! It is still drastically better than pre-Accutane but definitely not as good as it was on my last month or so on the medicine. It has been great not having chapped lips or perpetual dry skin, and my running has returned back to normal and I don’t have back aches/knee pain anymore. However, it was really nice not having oily skin or hair!

Be careful!!!! I took accutane 2x for 2 seperye courses and I’m laying in a hospital bed right now with severe Ulcerative Colitis. There is supposed to be a relationship between that med and my UC

You look great! I have been on Accurane twice and was recently worried that I would need it again. I was really afraid to do it a third tone so I research and researched and on a whim found something that’s useful. First, you can’t fix it when you don’t know the cause. Accutane dries out your skin, but what causes your skin to be oily in the first place to give you acne versus all the other people who have clear skin? The hormone DHT. I am now using saw palmetto pills and a Clearogen topically and have been clear for 6 months. The cleanser and toner are fine, but the DHT blockers are really in the lotion. Hope this helps if your acne comes back like mine did. Take care!

You're really pretty and you'll be even more so after! I had acne for like 12 year and roaccutane was the only thing that budged it! Good luck
