I have always been small chested and lost more when I became even more active. I have been contemplating a BA for years and decided it was finally time. I was a 34A and really just wanted more volume. I wanted larger, natural looking breasts for my body frame. I'm an OR nurse myself and wanted to find the best surgeon. After doing tons of research and getting a referral, I decided Dr. Seckel was the right choice for me. I couldn't be happier with my decision. At the consult and pre-op visits, we decided on 350cc silicone gels with a little "wiggle room" in either direction (I left the final decision in the hands of a very qualified, experienced surgeon). The plan was for submuscular; however, my anatomy didn't allow for this (I was well informed that submuscular is not always possible, but I wanted the implants by either means). One of my breasts was slightly fuller than the other, but not enough to use different size implants, so this remains the same postop. I am now 2 1/2 weeks postop, a size 34D, and I am THRILLED with the results! I love my new look!

Happy healing doll

Thank you! As far as pain and healing goes, it has been easier than I anticipated. The hardest part was keeping myself from doing things I'm not supposed to, like working out until I'm healed enough. Lol. But I don't want to mess up the Dr's great work!

They look great!
Are you glad you went subglandular?

Well, the plan WAS for submuscular, but it wasn't possible related to how high my first rib starts. He had talked to me about this ahead of time, so I knew it was a possibility. He said they would look the same either method. So although I AM disappointed that my body didn't allow for it, I am ecstatic with the results. I had just enough breast tissue preop, that I cannot feel or see the edges of the implant. That is also why I chose silicone because it is said that silicone typically doesn't have the problems with creasing or folding over. On the plus side, he said the recovery is easier (typically less painful) than under the muscle, and I would say I felt my recovery was very easy & not much pain.

Are you preop and deciding on over or under?

I'm in the research stage, but I'm a little saggy/droopy and hoping for submuscular. I really don't want a lift, and I'm seeing that a lot of dr's seem to get a little extra lift by going above the muscle.

OK, so the plan WAS to place them under the muscle, but my specific anatomy didn't allow him to do this. He didn't have enough space from my first rib. This was all discussed prior. I had read that contracture was more prevelant with subglandular. He didn't seem to think there was a big difference in occurrence since he uses the Keller funnel. I chose him as my PS because I required my surgeon use this method. Since they believe contracture actually happens when bacteria get enter the capsule, the funnel prevents the surgeon having to use gloved hands to push the implants in, which also leads to less trauma and smaller incisions. This is especially beneficial with silicone implants. My PS is also one who believes in massage exercises post op, which I also agreed with. I didn't have to have any drains either. I'm now about 7 months out and haven't had any problems. Read about the funnel if you haven't heard about it, and you can ask if your PS uses it. I hope this is useful for you. Happy to answer any questions. Good luck on your new additions!
