Complex Revision Rhinoplasty - Thin Skin
WORTH IT
I cannot recommend Dr. Ahmet Alp and his team highly enough. This was my third rhinoplasty and second revision, so choosing another surgeon was not a decision I took lightly. I traveled from the United States to Istanbul specifically for Dr. Alp, and I am grateful I trusted my instincts.
My first rhinoplasty was in 2010. Over time, I developed a tension nose. My second surgery, in August 2024, involved a rib graft, but too much cartilage was used, leaving my nose heavy and bulbous. I also have very thin skin, which made an already difficult revision case even more challenging. After two prior surgeries, I had been warned about scar tissue, altered anatomy, blood supply and the risk of skin necrosis, so I knew I had to be extraordinarily selective.
I spent nearly two years researching revision rhinoplasty surgeons in the U.S. and Turkey, including major U.S. names such as Dr. Dean Toriumi and Dr. Ziad Katrib. That was the caliber of work I was comparing Dr. Alp against. What kept bringing me back to him was the consistency of his results. Patient after patient looked refined, natural, feminine and individualized.
My husband and sister are Ivy League-trained physicians in the U.S. and were understandably hesitant about me traveling abroad for such a complex revision. What impressed me most was that Dr. Alp never minimized the risks or tried to “sell” me on surgery. He was cautious, realistic and incredibly thorough.
Dr. Alp is one of the most meticulous surgeons I have ever encountered. Immediately after surgery, while I was still under anesthesia, he continued evaluating the result from seemingly every conceivable angle — looking, stepping back, reassessing and checking again and again. He also took dozens of photographs of my nose, possibly close to 50, from virtually every perspective.
I obviously did not witness this because I was still under, but afterward he showed me the photographs. Seeing the sheer number of images and angles was incredible. He had not simply considered the operation finished and moved on; he continued scrutinizing his work to make sure the proportions, symmetry and details were exactly right.
My result exceeded what I thought was possible. Dr. Alp completely addressed the excessive rib graft, straightened my nose and created a result that is softer, more refined and more feminine. My nose is honestly stunning, yet still natural and appropriate for my face. Functionally, I can also breathe better than before, which I credit to his expertise as an ENT.
What he has given me goes far beyond a beautiful result. I genuinely feel like I have a new lease on life. I have my confidence back, and after years of feeling self-conscious and two prior surgeries, finally loving my nose is difficult to put into words.
Tülay was exceptional from beginning to end — responsive, patient, kind and understanding. She coordinated my surgical arrangements, postoperative care and hyperbaric oxygen treatments. What I will remember most is that when I was nervous being wheeled into the operating room, Tülay walked beside me and literally held my hand. I was thousands of miles from home and scared, and that kindness meant more than I can explain.
The hospital was extremely clean, professional and well run. The nurses were kind, attentive and responsive whenever I called. A few hours after surgery, one nurse walked the halls with me while I got moving. Another patiently translated the medication information for me because I wanted to know exactly what I was being given.
My mother accompanied me to Istanbul and was probably the biggest skeptic in my family. By the time we left, even she told me how thoroughly impressed she was with Dr. Alp, his team and the care I received.
I honestly wish there were more I could do to thank Dr. Alp. He gave me back a confidence I had lost for years. If you are considering a difficult revision rhinoplasty and trying to determine whom you can truly trust with your face, I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Ahmet Alp and his team.
