I had a tummy tuck and immediately developed a post op bowel obstruction which nearly cost me my life. After 4 more surgerys and a colostomy bag i found myself regret this decision. I have to say im happy i survived but the scars and hernia im left with has left me terribly disfigured. If i had it to do over again would not have done it.

The colostomy was eventually reversed but chronic diarrhea persists. The hernia is visible in the photo its the bulge at the bikini line. I was told its too risky to operate on due to possible non healing wound or mesh may cause problems w the bladder.

I'm so sorry that this happened to you and I will pray that GOD can give you the peace you need and turn this negative experience into a positive one, for only he can do it. I know this is hard for you but you seem so strong most would not have even shared their experience or their pictures. Your blessed to be alive meaning GOD is not done with you yet and the best is still yet to come. Most times we can't see that while still going through the storm but after every storm there is sunshine. Have you thought about a lawsuit dear?

Ok thats another story ...what i dicovered is that if you survive a nightmare like this a number of lawyers will look your case over after you give them about 2k but there are laws to protect the hospitals which make it at the most 150k you can recieve as an individual in ohio which makes it rarely worth the expense involved and thus lawyers rarely want plastic cases. They know this and so the cost of the suit isnt worth it for them. I was also told hospitals have high power attorneys and their is no sympathy given for patient having elective plastic surgery which is understandable. The thing is you wouldnt know it till something goes wrong. I was told not to speak about this by my lawyers but after numerous promises and several...im sorry i cant help you i decided to speaK out so others are aware. Im an RN and ive been dying to tell this story for years but couldnt...its truly book worthy on what happens when something goes horrifically wrong. I was on a ventilator for 9 days and thank god in the best shape of my life when it happened with no medical issues in perfect health at the time. I was in a nursing home blew through 30k in 401k and lucky to have my job after missing months of work. I still owe thousands to both hospitals i was in. Im paying to keep the collection agencies off my back monthly and it will be years till im done paying. Im divorced w three kids...unreal....huh? Everyone who knows me were shocked as well...including doctors and nurses who have heard my story. My kids were delivered vaginally and i had a hysterectpmy in the passed so they blamed it on scar tissue from that which was more than 15 yrs ago and i never had an issue ..trust me they know what to say to get out of it when something goes wrong!

I hate that this happens and Its sad no one ever wants to take responsibility. I am living in Ohio as well I went to the DR to have surgery because when I had a umbilical hernia repair here I did not like the way the doctor did it. I am blessed to have made it through my surgery because with these things you never know. How are you doing now? And its good to speak out other women need to know you never know you could be saving a life. Im more disappointed in the fact that you still have to pay for all of this despite all that you went through. Then again maybe not we are in America where everything is ran off of money.

I agree...that picture was recent. Im dealing w chronic diarrhea...frequent UTIs and will always live in fear of more hernias developing down the road. It took a toll on my self esteem...taught me whats important in life and who really cares about me.

Did you have a hernia repair?

No ...they said its not a good idea as it may lead to open abdominal wound again or a mesh causing an issue as the bladder is so near the area.

I am so sorry this happened to you and so appreciate your sharing the side of what can go wrong with surgery. I fully appreciate the frustration with medical errors and being unable to succeed with legal action. If I shared what happened to my mother at a prestigious Michigan hospital with a board certified thoracic surgeon you would be astonished. So far no success with attorneys either.
Would you be able to educate the rest of us with upcoming surgeries what symptoms you had that were not attended to promptly? We read about constipation but that is way different than a bowel obstruction. What is the connection of scar tissue from a hysterectomy to the bowels? You may be able to assist others in recognizing an issue sooner. If you'd prefer to communicate via PM, please let me know.
Thanks for sharing your information and I hope your body continues to heal. It certainly brings seriousness to potential adverse outcomes.

Ok well bowel obstruction can occur spontaneously due to scar tissue in the abdomen kinking off the bowel however this was very different situation for several reasons. First of all i had no bowel issues and had a routine colonoscopy done prior to the surgery which was result normal. I was encouaged by the dr to hav lipo and i questioned that cuz i didnt think it was needed. I was normal weight and worked out 60 min 3 xs a week in excellent shape. The idea was to fix the saggy skin from my 3 vaginal births. I was told the lipo would improve the overall appearance and help it stay that way over time. Lipo is dangerous when a surgeon goes too deep. This action can cause complication such as i had. I threw up constantly projectile vomiting for days following my surgery and had an office visit i only recall the ride there to the office. The surgery was thursday and on monday i was told by my boyfriend he was told she is fine just needs to rest. On tues night i was scared and knew something was wrong so i went to the ER and was told immediately this is a bowel obstruction. The longer you wait the more dead the bowel becomes .

I was told the scarring from the hysterctomy caused it by kinking off the bowel...but lets face it...the lipo was the reason it occured..

I also did not recall anyone telling me my previous hystectomy would be an issue...
