I'm a single mom to 6 ages 21 (doesn't live at home anymore), 16, 14, 11, 8, and 6. When my youngest was 1.5 I took up running and working out. I have ran 6 full marathons and more then 9 half marathons. I lost over 40lb but nothing I did would get rid of my saggy belly. I have maintained my weight for over 4 years and decided now was the time. I went for a consult over 3 years ago but was also going through a divorce and it was not the right time. some people may say it was a selfish move for me to do this since I am a single mom but I give everything to my kids and decided it was time since my kids can be somewhat independent and helpful. I had my surgery 8 days ago and I can't believe how great I feel. I stayed with my parents for 3 days but by day 2 post op I could get up and down out of the chair by myself and walk around by myself. I did take the pain meds every 4 hours for the first 2-3 days. on day 4 I only took them at night. The last pain meds I have had was on the morning of day 5 and it was 2 Ibuprofen and I took it for backpain. I had 4 drains which surprised me, I was expecting only 2. Doctor also sent me home with a catheter which was awesome, since I wouldn't have to worry about getting up to pee all the time from the IV fluids. I went to the dr on post op day 3 and he removed 3 of the drains and then saw him again on day 6 post op and he removed the 4th and cleared me to drive since I had been off the pain meds. I went home from my parents on day 3 and slept in my bed with lots of pillows. My biggest compliant would be back ache, which is gone now, and headaches and no appetite. If anyone else would like to hear any more of my story I would gladly share it. I have been trying to document almost everything and I've been taking lots of progress pics and even measurements because everyone talks about all the swelling. So if anyone would like me to share that info I will be happy to. But I still can't believe how easy this recovery has been. I was really expecting it to be painful. I was answering work emails in the recovery room and I have been working from home everyday since and also went into the office for a little bit on day 6. I have been able to stand up straight since day 5/6. I will try and figure out how to upload pics.

Forgot to add that I had muscle repair too. Doctor was surprised at how far my muscles were separated.

Thanks for sharing your story and pics! I think this quick recovery thing must be for runners. I am having a surprisingly great recovery and I run too ... just one full marathon but several halfs and a couple of 30k races.

We appear to be having almost the same recovery. Up and around very quickly, off pain meds after 3 days ... shocked at how easy the recovery was in comparison to what I expected

So glad you are recovering quick too. I was really expecting so much pain and I have to say that I haven't really had any pain, just more discomfort. Yeah, it must be a runner thing. How long til you doctor says you can run again?

I describe it the same way, no pain ... just discomfort. Just like I did a wicked ab workout yesterday and I'm feeling the effects today.

He said 8-10 weeks, depending on how I'm doing. I'm hoping it'll be shorter, but I'm not going to push it and waste all this time and money. I have to run inside/at night in the summer (I have anhidrosis and get heat stroke very easily because of it) so I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to get back on the treadmill.

I hate the treadmill! I don't know how you do it! My doctor said I could be back to running in 3 weeks but no strenuous activity or lifting more then 10lb for 6 weeks, which stinks cause I love to lift weights too. and I guess he doesn't consider running strenuous. lol I usually don't follow doctors orders but this time I am way too much money and time invested like you said. I will not run until he says that I can. He did tell me I can walk as much as I feel up to it

So happy to hear about your recovery as runners! I run as well, my surgery is in two months. I was wondering how much running you did the week before surgery? Does it matter? Can a fit in a LSR days before surgery?
