I had an FUT hair transplant procedure done with Dr. John Frank on Dec 15th 2017. I researched this procedure online for almost 2 years. I did 3 phone consultations with Dr. Frank. He asked a lot of questions and I sent him 10 or so pictures before deciding to go through with the procedure. I met with him shortly after I arrived on the morning of the procedure and we discussed a plan along with him answering all of my questions and concerns. Once we decided on how to restore my hair I signed some forms took a Valium and he got started about 20 minutes later. I am 42 years old and started losing my hair in my early 30's. Things got to the point where I had no front hair line and I felt as if I looked wore out and tired from my hair loss. I have a beautiful wife, family, friends and great job but I haven't felt like myself since I lost my hair. I felt very vain for getting this done but now I am relieved and looking forward to my hair growing back this summer. I was really nervous to have this procedure done but now that it's over I'm relieved as I really want my hair back. My day started at 5:45 am and they were done by 3:30 that afternoon. They placed 2500 graphs to restore my front hair line along with my hair thinning in the middle. Dr. Frank also decided to place some remaining graphs on the crown as it was slightly thinning. Dr. Frank and his staff were amazing at making me feel comfortable and relaxed during the whole procedure. His staff of Freida and David were very good to me throughout the day and I was able to take a nap during the procedure. Freida sang while she planted the graphs and the environment was relaxed and comfortable. Dr. Frank was reassuring before and during the procedure and he checked with me through out the procedure to see how I was feeling and to answer any questions I had. The day went quickly and the procedure was painless. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd say the numbing shots were probably a 2. It felt like a few pinches. No big deal at all. The rest of the day was completely painless. Once the procedure was completed I've had very little pain other than the incision on the back of my head is a little sore. I've been taking the pain pills that he prescribed and I was able to sleep normal on my side with no issue. I'll be taking the tape off of my forehead in a few days and I'll be wearing a hat for about a week until the graphs heal and shed. If anyone wants to ask me questions about my procedure or about Dr. Frank's office I'd be glad to share my experience. I'm open to text messages, phone calls or emails. I consider myself a man's man and I don't want other men to feel bad about having this procedure done. I'm happy to share my journey and will continue to post my results as I go. Thank you.

3 week Update: Days1, 2 and 3 were uneventful as I stayed home on the couch. I had taken a week off work before Christmas for the procedure. I could have easily returned to work as I work in an office but I decided to lay low. I had some minor headaches and I took the pain pills every 4 hours as prescribed by Dr. Frank. After a few days I ran out of pain pills and I switched to Tylenol. I only needed this for about 4 days after the procedure as I had a dull headache. The pain was nothing unbearable as I pretty much watched TV and got caught up on some of my Netflix shows. On Day 4 as expected I had some slight swelling on my forehead that lasted about a day. I had removed the tape from my forehead on day 3 as I was ready to have it off. This is likely why I had some swelling. The swelling was gone the next day. I had asked Dr. Frank about how to sleep a week after the procedure and he said I could sleep normally but that I should try not to sleep on my stomach for the first week. I slept fine each night with no major issues. My graphs itched a lot on days 4 and 5 but then it stopped and I only get an occasional itch. I can only recall one night where the itching kept me awake at night. My scalp was still pretty numb for about 2 weeks so even if I could scratch it I can't feel it. The FUT incision on the back of my head was itchy, swollen and red for about a week and then it started to heal. After about 7 days I could barely feel where the incision is as it feels smooth again. I had my daughter put Neosporin on my incision each evening before I went to bed. I used the Saline spray on the graphs every few hours for 5 days. The graphs scabbed up pretty well after 1 week. Dr. Frank had called me a few days after the procedure to check on me and he instructed me to keep the saline spray on the graphs for about a week and then I could gently wash my hair. I washed my hair for the first time 5 days after my procedure. I've been washing it twice a day for about a week until all of the scabs were gone. At 2 weeks out I returned to Dr. Frank's office to have Jessica remove my stiches. She got me in right away and it took her only a few minutes. Today Jan 6th I am 3 weeks out, back to work and nobody has really noticed anything different about my head. All of the scabs are gone and the transplanted hair has grown a little. I'd say about half of the transplanted hair has shed. My scalp is still a little pinkish color where the graphs were placed. My hair is starting to look like I did prior to the procedure. I am going to get a hair cut this weekend to even up my hair a bit as my native hair has grown quite a lot in the past 3 weeks. I started back in the gym working out yesterday and I'm fully back to my normal routine. I will keep posting updates to let everyone know how things are progressing.

Hey meng. Going with Dr. Frank in August for first one? I’ll also be getting somewhere between 2500-3000 grafts. Any advice and any more updated pictures? How about the scar? May I see how it mint be covered now? Thank you

My scar is barely noticeable. You can see a line in my hair when it's buzzed down short but that's it. It doesn't really bother me as I'm so happy to see my hairline in the front coming back. My hair is filling in nicely. I will post some updated pictures soon. My advice before the procedure is to relax. Dr. Frank and his technicians David and Freida are the best. The procedure itself was easy and was over before I knew it. After the procedure my advice is to be patient and relax for a few days. It takes time for the hair to grow in. My hair started growing around the 4th month and really became noticeable around 5 months. I'm only halfway but I really see a difference and it's really got my confidence back. I'm really glad I decided to do it. Please feel free to ask me as many questions as you'd like as before I had the procedure I was very nervous and didn't know anyone who had a hair transplant before.

Thanks for your insights and info regarding your experience. It’s helpful. When did you first notice new hair begin to come up, so to speak? I am seeing after shedding this first month and change (post fut), some of the transplanted hairs come in but am eager to see more even as little as they are.

I noticed hair coming in around day 85 after the procedure. I had been looking at my hair in the mirror at every opportunity for months. I was waiting and waiting for something.....anything to look different. Then I noticed on day 85 that overnight a bunch of little stubby hairs had popped up. They were really thin hairs. I had to squint to see them and I did a double triple take looking at them in amazement. I was very excited and checked them out every day after. Little by little they started to come in. I am at nearly 10 months now as I had my procedure back in Dec. My hair is around 85% I believe. I can still feel some little stubby hairs coming in. The hairs seem to come in at different times. I will get a bunch of growth and then a month later I'll see more coming in. The hairs that came in early are getting thicker and darker. I'm happy with the procedure and worth every penny. Let me know if you have any other questions or comments.

sennariley0608
Things started happening last week. I noticed a bunch of fine hairs popping up. Each day I'm noticing more and more coming in. The hair is very thin and stringy looking. Its still early but I'm excited to see something happening after almost 3 months.

Thanks for sharing journey.
I also underwent FUT in India Jan 29 2018. little over two months now and I am noticing few new strands poking through jet black color...after going through massive shedding in my transplanted as well native hair
April 7, 2018
I also had a lot of shedding of my native hair. My native hair is now about where it was before the procedure. My new hairs are mostly at the outside edges of the recipient area. I've still got a lot of tiny little dark hairs throughout the recipient area. I'm out 113 days today from my procedure. It's been tough being patient but I'm happy with what I've seen so far. From what I've read things really start to sprout around the 4 to 5 months.

Update. 6-11-18. Almost 6 months out.

sennariley0608
Starting to see my hairline. A few people have noticed my hair is looking thicker. I had a lot of shock loss and my native hair. The first picture is from Dec '17 before the procedure. I used to grow my hair out long and comb it forward to cover my thin area in the front. The second picture is from last week June '18. I tried to take the picture at the same angle and distance.

Did you use minoxidil? Cheers.
June 21, 2018
I've never used any minoxidil or anything else. Just wash it like normal everyday.
