30 Year Old - Voluma to Restore Volume - Columbia, SC

ORIGINAL POST

I had CO2 laser procedures to reduce acne scarring...

I had CO2 laser procedures to reduce acne scarring and I swear the fat also got zapped from my face (though drs will fervently deny that's possible). I decided to try Voluma (and juvederm under my eyes) to restore the volume I lost immediately after my laser treatments.

I brought before pictures of me from my mid/later 20s from before my volume loss. The nurse was pushy and told me she saw exactly where the voluma needed to go, so being the stupidly passive person I am, I told her that was fine. After she injected one cheek, I had a slight panic attack. She put voluma on my upper cheekbones where I have NEVER had volume. She continued to talk me into what she had done and went ahead and did the other cheek and my under eyes. I now have gigantic cheekbones (which she told me is the "most attractive faceshape" for women) and puffy bags under my eyes.

I went in a couple months later to discuss having them removed and she pretty much told me it looks amazing and to just wait for it to dissolve on its own. I look like a bizarre form of myself and dislike the injections more and more each day. I am planning on having them dissolved and asking for a refund. Doubt I'll get a refund but I'm at least going to ask.

Otherwise, the product is awesome! It definitely adds great volume! I was swollen for a couple weeks but didn't look too scary. The injections were crazy painful but would have been worth it had she placed it in the correct locations...

Same problem here. My cheeks dropped 2 weeks after an IPL treatment. I'm contemplating filler to give my face some contour as I can't stand looking at these flat cheeks anymore. I am worried the damaged tissue won't support the fillers. Did she use a canula?

I'm looking into fat transfer at this point. Fillers aren't bad but make sure that if a person doesn't ask for a pre-laser pic, you walk straight out of that office... Get out right away!! If the filler had been placed correctly, I would have been much happier! Might as well try fillers though! They're expensive but can be worth it. Just have to find the right dr!!! I'm not sure what she used... Whatever the injection comes with, I suppose!

The same exact thing happen to me, and my face looked like Maleficent's. In addition, my eyes hollowed because the skin immediately below was stretched so bad. I had to have belotero under my eyes, and added radiesse in my temples to make my face look less angle-y. And I still need to fill my cheeks because they look even worse than before (given my very high cheekbones). I haven't done it yet, because I find it hard to trust another dr... I had radiesse done on my cheeks about 7 years ago and it looked phenomenal...It even lasted way more than 2 years (prob cause I was at a relatively young age). But that was in Newport Beach, CA, where beauty doctors know their sh-t

Sorry you had a similar situation! It's definitely frustrating!!! My person didn't ask for a pic of me when I was younger... That should have been a good moment to run!

2 years ago I had voluma put under my eyes. It is become a horrific nightmare. As it is dissolving it is creating even a worse luck than what I had before. Now it also is becoming lumpy. I really hope you're able to dissolve yours without any problems. My ordeal has been hell
February 17, 2016
Were they not able to dissolve it?! I am surprised they put something so thick under your eyes. Voluma is for cheeks only!!!!!

Do not ever let anyone dissolve filler it destroys collagen. Use acupuncture it removes filler and lifts face. They ugly facts about filler n its counterpart most doctors never tell anyone but their wives.
February 19, 2016
Please don't leave messages discouraging people from seeking/receiving treatment, especially if what you say isn't backed by medical literature. Fillers, and their dissolvers, can be done correctly without causing damage. It's about experience and talent, just like any field of medicine. I am assuming you have had a bad experience?

Also, women are drs too, just fyi.

I've had the same problem, needing filler in my lower cheek area, where I also had co2 laser resurfacing for acne scarring and lost volume, not my upper cheek area. Sculptra helped a little bit. I recently got Restylane injections that seem to look pretty good. I'm just not sure how long it's going to last?
February 17, 2016
I'm looking into fat transfer... It is more expensive but can last a whole lot longer than fillers so it is worth it! Glad that your filler has helped!! It is crazy what lasers can do!
February 17, 2016
Yes, you have to be very careful with lasers and fat loss is something people do not expect! I've read some horrific stories on this website. I'll look into the fat transfer. Thank you!
February 17, 2016
For sure! I noticed I looked older as soon as my skin healed from the laser but wasn't able to see what specifically has changed at first, which was fat loss! I had big cheeks before laser and now I am super gaunt (for me, anyway)! Make sure you look for a Dr that tells you fat transfer should age with you and not dissolve within a year or two... Those drs aren't doing it right from what other drs say! I go in for a consult next week! (And hopefully to have these ugly fillers dissolved!!!!)
February 17, 2016
Oh and if you still have some scars that need correcting, look into subcision and fat transfer combined!
February 17, 2016
I had the laser done several years ago and I saw no results afterwards and it took a long time to heal! Well keep us posted on your fat transfer I would really like to know more about that:)
February 17, 2016
I know someone who had fat transfer and because she was working out so much and was already thin) she ended up losing that pretty soon
February 17, 2016
Sure thing!
February 17, 2016
Sorry you had a bad experience too!!
February 17, 2016
Yeah people have mixed reviews! I am more for person but have always carried a lot of weight in my face.... Well, up until laser! Hopefully I will have better results!

Ughhh!

Well, I called the dr's office to have the filler dissolved. The nurse said she can't/won't do it because I waited too long then made up some other bizarre reasons she wouldn't do it. I called the juvederm number and reported it. The guy I spoke with said he can't tell me if what she said was wrong (as he laughed loudly at her given reasons) but that I should probably find a Dr who knows that they're doing. Lesson learned, I suppose! Hopefully it's not expensive having this mistake dissolved!!!!

I don't think you look unattractive at all. I think you should just wait for it to dissolve. It is a temporary product, and as such it would be best to avoid any other issues. Don't risk possible negative reactions for a temporary product. Again, you don't look funny or strange to me.
February 17, 2016
I don't want to wait for two years haha! It's not that I'm ugly with them, but it's not where I've ever held weight so I don't look like myself, if that makes sense. I asked her to fill the apple of my cheeks and hollows, where my volume disappeared after laser treatments, which she said she couldn't do because the product shouldn't go there.... which it can and is even shown on the juvederm website.

The reasons she provided for not dissolving the Voluma do not appeared to be based on medical literature, from what other doctors have said, so I'm not overly concerned about negative reactions. I think there could be different reasons for not dissolving it... I appreciate your input though! :) Thanks for your kind words!

I agree. It's the apples of the cheeks that give beauty, IMO. You look great but I know what you mean. Lasers melt those apples right off. That is what they call "tightening". Research the product they use to dissolve the filler as some have reportrd complications with that. I hope everything goes well whatever you decide.
February 17, 2016
Will do! Thanks for your advice!
February 18, 2016
I had voluma about 9 months ago and also did not like it. I considered getting it dissolved but I was worried about fat loss on my face. The first few months I had it my face had a severe, angular look which I did not like. However, I massaged my cheeks every night with coconut oil and it helped soften the look quite a bit. It does get softer as the months pass. I don't mind it as much now.
Sorry to hear that you didn't like your result.

Your lucky she would not do it.. that chemical destroys collagen. Don't do it, go to an acupuncture who does facelifts.. The needles take out the filler, just drink lots of water.
February 19, 2016
You are as misinformed as she is. Also, I don't need a facelift. She put very little in my face and I WILL have it removed if I desire because it's my face. Needles cannot remove filler by stabbing it repeatedly, nor can drinking a ton of water. Done by the right drs, it can easily be removed. I will just use better judgment in the future... Which is why I wrote this review, to encourage other people to do the same.

Do you have a medical degree?

Did you have it dissolved? Will you have the apples filled? My cheeks melted from a heat device as well.
August 8, 2016
I didnt have it dissolved. I decided to have filler placed in the places I want and am being patient as the old filler dissolves on its own.

Next time only see a certified plastic surgeon.

I ended up not getting the voluma dissolved. I found an awesome plastic surgeon who put filler in the correct places! I look like I did prelaser.... But without as much scarring! I am making a new review on my most recent experience. :) I am happy happy happy!!

That's wonderful! You definitely had more volume lower in your face previously, not extremely high cheekbones which isn't what everyone wants obviously. It's a shame some plastic surgeons and nurse injectors think we all want the exact same look.
July 10, 2016
I agree! Not everyone looks good with high cheekbones either haha!

why didnt u go to have the voluma dissolved? I'll tell you the truth about fillers that plastic surgeons wont tell you unless you ask them this question directly. All fillers obstruct veins in the face by placing pressure on them. Voluma stretches out the skin on top of it. If u got the voluma dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase your skin would feel different with the voluma gone, but only you would notice it which is good. My cheeks look worse after getting the voluma dissolved but i had to get the voluma dissolved. It stretched out my tissues on the cheekbone. I dont think Voluma is a good product because of this. Restylane is a much better low volume product for augmentation.
November 9, 2016
It was too expensive to have it dissolved and I had so little that the dr said it should be gone within a year. I don't feel it around my cheekbones anymore less than a year later. My cheekbones look normal again. I only had one syringe of voluma for both cheekbones in multiple places. I'm sorry it stretched stuff out for you. That sucks!

Good. I'm from your area and was going to suggest someone for you who has a good eye and keeps his patients appearance natural looking. I had Voluma injected a week and a half ago and love the result.
