Pinch Blepharoplasty for Wrinkles Under Eyes - London, UK

I went to Jane Olver at Clinica London last year about wrinkles under my eyes when I smile. She recommended a pinch blepharoplasty for my wrinkles and other treatments including surgery on my upper eyelids. I chose the blepharoplasty and had it in February. Jane Olver gave me a sedative but I was conscious during the procedure. I was injected with anaesthetic under my eyes which was excruciatingly painful and resulted in two big haematomas. I was sick during the procedure. Afterwards, Jane Olver said ‘You are purple, you are not a good advert for the clinic. Don’t let anyone see you like that.’ I asked for a taxi but they did not have a number so they sent me out on to the street to find one even though I had a purple swollen face and felt drowsy after the sedatives. Four weeks later my bruises still hadn’t gone. It became clear that the procedure had not improved my wrinkles and had made them worse. I also had a large lump under my eye and a fold where my eyelid had been stitched down. I went back to Jane Olver and explained that I looked worse. She said that in her opinion I looked better than I did before. When I repeated that I did not think that I looked better, she said ‘Change the record, you’re just stuck in a mindset.’ She gave me a little botox and said ‘I will only charge you £350 because I feel sorry for you. When I asked how many areas that was, she said ‘I do not do areas.’ I decided to give it more time but things did not improve. I tried to contact Jane Olver, by sending polite emails with photographs of my concerns but she simply ignored my messages. I know she received them because she forwarded them to her secretary and copied me in. That was 5 months ago. It is over a year after my procedure and my wrinkles are much worse. I also still have a lump and flap and my eyes look more hooded (don’t know if this is related). I have spent over £5000 and am in a worse position than I was before. Definitely not worth it for under eye wrinkles.

Oh goodness, I am soo sorry you had this terrible experience. This Doctor is so unprofessional and did not do a good job at all. She also treated you very poorly as a customer with concerns. Although you still look very pretty, she clearly DID create some problems, and left you with worse issues than you had before! But, on the bright side, there ARE professionals who can fix what she has done to you. I know it will be hard to trust again, but, you WILL find someone qualified, and they WILL be able to fix it, I've seen people with much worse results than yours get revisions done and they look wonderful. I just want you to know there is HOPE. Take care.

It means a lot to hear that, thank you.

WOW! I can't believe what I just read! I'm so sorry for you that you went through this. Is there any recourse for this type of medical malpractice in the UK - even a central complaint board? How this doc treated is down right dangerous! To put out on the street to find a taxi after just having had surgery?!? Unbelievable! It's excellent that you're warning others! I hope you don't feel hopeless -- you CAN fix what she did. Do keep us posted as you move forward. Be blessed! :-)

I might be able to contact the General Medical Council, good idea. Your comment is reassuring, thank you.

I can only echo the other commentators here - reading your story made my blood boil! For starters, it's clear you're very attractive and I don't think you needed anything more than a skin peel. Eyelid surgery was unnecessary imo (as was the "hard sell"). Secondly, to state that you are not a "good advert for the clinic" and throw you out on the street thereafter was shockingly rude and discourteous. You just had surgery; she was supposed to be taking care of you in a professional manner - you are a patient and a paying client. Should she not wish waiting clientele to see the "purple" on newly operated patients, it's really up to her to make those arrangements prior rather than make her (PAYING) client feel that they are in the wrong. Unacceptable in London. Also, her response to you... "change the record" etc. - very offhand and a little bizarre to be honest. Either way, thanks for telling your story about this rather unpleasant sounding clinic/doctor.

No, thank you, Unoq. I am trying out some peels at the moment and guess I'll just have to learn from my experience but its nice to read your kind words.

I just feel so bad for you, having to go through that awful ordeal. Hopefully you will soon find someone much better.

Hope the peels worked. Obviously your eyes looked amazing in the before pictures, and words fail as to why this doctor carried out procedures. I also get lines when I smile and have found applying rosehip oil to the whole eye area each night has reduced them. It certainly would have worked for you prior to you having work done, and may still improve things. Of course, you can't charge thousands of pounds for rosehip oil so no doctor will suggest it, but in actuality it is a natural retinol, and gentle - until Retin-A which can make the skin look dry and therefore worse.
