I've always been self conscious of my nose. I hated pictures, especially close-up ones. The great thing about rhinoplasty is the best surgeons will tell you they want to give you the best version of YOUR nose. If you have been thinking about this for awhile, definitely go to a consult. Your surgeon will help you discuss realistic goals from the procedure and offer suggestions.
The recovery is not the easiest. It's not painful post-op, but wearing a nose cast that disables you from breathing through your nose is more annoying than anything. Swelling and tenderness occurred for about 6 months post-op, as expected. I am now over a year post op and very happy with my results.
