My Doc was great. I'm in pain, but day 1 it's not awful yet. Anesthesia likely wearing off, and I had no appetite until 13
Hours post op. I vomited slightly. It hurt my muscles, but I didn't feel anything pop or move, other than natural contractions of a belly while puking. I'm not in pain now, but I'm concerned. How common is this?

You had your TT on a Saturday? That seems unusual. What did your doctor say about the vomiting? He's the one to ask, but it is very common coming out of anesthesia I've heard. Best wishes for an easier recovery than it's started, thanks for sharing your experience and congratulations!!

Thank you MM :-) the surgery was yesterday; I think it just didn't get cleared to post til today. I'm glad to hear the word common. I don't follow up until Thursday, but I'll call Monday just to make sure he's not concerned. I'm thankful it passed quickly.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's pretty common to vomit after being under and as long as you didn't feel anything pop or aren't in any major pain, you are probably fine. Let your PS(plastic surgeon) know that you did it so that there is a record, but don't worry too much! There are sneezes and coughs to come and we've all been through them! If you do feel a sneeze come on, brace your tummy with a pillow and push in while you sneeze, it will help. Happy healing!

Thank you, dragonfly! I'll make sure it's recorded. I just was so shocked that it happened, but it sounds common. Thank you for your support!

Everyone vomits or coughs or sneezes after...not going to damage anything.

Thank you for the reassurance. I'm glad I went through with it.

I think you are fine. I vomited 3x in recovery and they gave me a shot ( I was so out of it I don't remember what it was). Nurse said I'd probably do it one more time and 3 hours after I got home it was projectile time! LOL! I felt fine thereafter. Yeah, the tummy was sore but that passed too. You're going to feel so many different things during your recovery you'll wonder whose controlling your body! The main thing is to listen to your body...you'll know when it's something to be concerned about. Congratulations and apply healing,

Thanks, Dee! How long did it take for you to sit up on your own? I'm ok standing, and lightly walking, but I'm horrified to sit up from a lying position as it feels like my upper core is on fire. Overall I'm happy to say recovery is moving along well. Just not sure if there's a trick to get up other than having someone pull me up. Thank you!

That's not good for your helper's back or your independence! I tell all of my C-section patients to use their arms and legs to get up - they weren't operated on. Lol! They need to get themselves up out of bed from post-op day 1 by themselves, for their own well-being, and the same principle applies here. Use your arms to push your upper body up after rolling on your side, swing your legs to the floor, and you are up! :-) You're not going to damage anything by getting yourself up, and your arms and legs and back will get moving a little, boosting circulation and avoiding muscle atrophy. You can do it! I have faith in you! Your helper's back will thank you, and you will avoid any strains or sprains or bruises from being pulled on. You can actually get an injured neck, back, shoulder, etc. from being pulled up so many times.... Good luck and best wishes!

Well the side roll worked. Thank you! I'm a bit paranoid I suppose about ripping something but it seems I'm over worrying. I'll keep practicing the side roll. Once I'm up I'm good. Thank you again for your advice. I feel like I'm running with blinders until my post-op visit. It's funny the things I didn't think to ask. I'm glad to have found this support site. :-)

You are so welcome! It isn't your fault - I am finding so many people who did not receive good teaching either at the doctor's office beforehand or at the hospital before being sent home. As a nurse, that really bugs me. Glad I could be of some help! :-)

You really have been. I swung by your profile and yours looks to be healing fantastically! I'll make sure to keep getting up. I actually like walking around so I'll keep at it. Keep up your great work, Jen. It's good to know I'm not alone. And thank you for sharing your story. I'm hoping Thursday I'll feel your joy and these pouches will come off. I promise I'll post on Thursday with an update. :-)

Thank you so much! You have made my day! I always hope that my irritation with deficiencies in patient education don't bleed through when I comment. In other words, I hope no one thinks that I am exasperated with them! I just wish my peers did a better job preparing people for what is a major event in their lives. Thanks for the compliments! That makes me feel really good!

You didn't come across that way at all. You've given me the strength to get out of bed and wander about without bugging my husband, and you were so right! It's only 2-days post op, but I already have a grasp of doing this on my own. It feels good! I'm glad that I posted this or I would still be lying in my bed. I was glad to read that you were doing so well. I wish I had taken pre-op photos. I'll see if I can get some post-op up after Thursday's appointment. I think it's important to share, and I would love an RN's opinion on my work. :-) I'm just so excited. And I am being realistic. I'm thinking at least 3 months before showing off my new belly button. I've missed it. I've had a weird belly for about 15 years - one child and was overweight a long time. When I lost my weight four years ago I promised myself that the frown of my belly button would go away. Boy was I ignorant! That was why I decided on the tummy tuck. I hope like you that my results are phenomenal. :-)

Hi summerrbelly! I think popping or ripping something is our worst fear. I never had anyone pull me up - uurrghh! From a lying position, I would roll on my side, being my knees toward my chest, push up on my arms and swing my legs around. Pretty much as the other poster described. Getting up from a seated position was more of a challenge for me. But I learned to use more of my leg and thigh strength than core. I swear a couple times I felt a pop or two from straining trying to get out of that recliner! Truly I walked straight up almost immediately. No issues there. You'll get the maneuvering down. Just take it slow but be sure to move and move often. I am 3 months post op and still have my moments of getting up too quickly or twisting g the wrong way. Then you get a mild reminder you had surgery! And we won't begin the swelling conversation. Take care!

Lol!! The "swelling conversation," yes I'm worried for that. I've heard women state 6 months plus! That seems wild. I've been practicing the roll-over-to-up maneuver and its been great! I can almost stand upright also; that really surprises me. I've not pushed it though because there is slight pain. Thank you for sharing! I'm glad for all the advice. I've a lot more freedom now that I know I can get up on my own. So does hubby! :-)

Post-op day 4

I'm recovering better than expected, but I am uncomfortable. I learned by day 2 to side-roll up off my bed (thanks to a fellow peer on this site) and have been mobile. I was even able to stand and do do dishes briefly. If I tried I could stand upright, but I don't want to stretch anything I'm not supposed to. So I have a slight bent back, which is normal, if not preferred from what I've learned on here. I will say day 4 (night of day 3 really) brought about change. It brought on the bloat. I've sponge bathed, but not removed the white binder from my core, and it feels comparable to when your arm is compressed within the blood pressure equipment and squeezed to its fullest, right before the nurse releases the tension and releases your arm. I feel like my belly wants to explode out of this thing. Post-op check up is Thursday. Hopefully I can get some pictures up for the community that day. Hopefully Doc says all is well.

Mummy photos posted lol - my hubby went overboard after my first shower. If I keep healing well ill post with BB soon. The bb is the scariest part of this for me, as its original "frown" was the reason I went through with this.

Feeling good... Taking it easy and avoiding sodium! I'd say the hardest thing is getting out of bed. Once up I'm ok. Showered today for the first time! I have a slight bloat but it could be worse, and I have the infamous hunch, though that too is improving. The worst was that I was brave and had a cup and a half of strong coffee and it gave me a slight belly ache, but good news is healthy BM! Those are a little rare at the moment. My hubby wrapped me up like a mummy, but I included a gauze photo and a couple with my body wrap. I'm happy to report the TT removed my tummy stretch marks and infamous BB frown, however I guess I am stuck with my thigh stretch marks.

My Doc took some that I'm hoping I can get copies of. I was so ashamed of my frown belly button that I didn't take pre-op and I regret that! More than anything. Like you I am very active, too. Hang tight - I'm gonna update my photos so you can see your possibility at day 8 ;-) if you're not even better! I have mama hips lol.
