Finally "done" with Smile Direct Club

As of 4/21 I am finished with my treatment plan. This last tray created a small gap in my front teeth, which is strange coming from having crowded teeth. And also one of my front teeth is pushed out farther than the other, so they're not aligned. I reached out to SDC, and they said I was approved to receive refinements but at this point I'm over the company in general. For example, I ordered my retainer on 3/21, a full month before I was supposed to be done and I still have yet to receive a peep from SDC on if there was an issue creating the retainer, if they're backed up or if they were shipped and lost. This is what I'm tired of and it has been my whole experience with the company.

I went to a cosmetic dentist in the Cincinnati area to inquire about getting my teeth bonded because I have really just given up at this point. I'm afraid to start a new "treatment" plan with Smile Direct Club because I feel like my results could have been a lot worse. The cosmetic dentist even said that my results were the best she's seen from SDC, so I feel like I really shouldn't push it.

Well to get the gap filled and the bottom of my teeth shaped, it'd cost $1000 per tooth. If I had no gap, which I have never had ever before, it'd be $570 a tooth. The cosmetic dentist did offer targeted teeth shifting clear aligners called Smart Moves, just to get my two front teeth together and better aligned. It cost $370 for two trays that I will receive in ONE week, and the cost of bonding will be the $570 rather than $1000 per tooth.

As a younger woman just coming up in the world, I was looking for the most cost effective method to straighten my teeth. I feel like Smile Direct Club does technically align your teeth, but their customer support, communication and product delivery timelines are severely lacking.

All in all, if I could go back and do it all over again, I would have just gone the Invisalign route to avoid the months and months of waiting, back and forth and frustration. Also, Invisalign corrects your bite, where as SDC does not.

Refinements finally received 1/30/19

I received my refinements on 1/30 and they fit perfectly, but unlike my first set of aligners these don't seem to be filed or trimmed down at all.. There have been rough / sharp edges on every set I've worn so far. I have to file them to smooth them out so they don't cut my tongue and gums up. I'm on my M2W1 aligners now and the fit is still really good. I'm just very ready to be done with my treatment!

Still no response regarding my refinements.

I haven't received any follow up from a dentist or orthodontist regarding my concerns. I happened to log in to my account and saw a new projected smile and I'm completely unhappy with the results. It's the worst projected smile plan yet. I was concerned about my upper cuspids being pushed out and it creating an open bite. The newest projected smile has a 10x worse open bite. I really have no idea what I need to do to get help. I've been reaching out to customer service via Facebook messenger and I've gotten no where. This process is so frustrating.

Sorry for all your trouble. I tried this process for my daughter in the summer of 2017. What a disaster it was. Comparing all the trouble you had, I can tell you it is 1/4 of what she went through. After wasting almost 7 months with the aligners not fitting properly, the length it took to get someone to respond, and trying to get a straight answer, we gave up. I tried to get a refund of the $250 down payment but no surprise, they refused. I finally took my daughter to a real live orthodontist! Yes it was double the price, but there is no comparison between pictures and meeting with a real live experienced professional. Her treatment plan is 12-14 months and she goes every 3 weeks. The doctor has made small adjustments here and there - added a bracket on a couple of teeth when he didn't like the way they were adjusting. This was a much better option for us.
Best of luck to you. I hope you get the smile you want!
